"using puppets is dumb and for kids" meanwhile "The Dark Crystal"...
Puppetry is so under appreciated these days man
There is a Japanese TV show where they interview people without reveling their face or voice so they can speak openly and talk about things they wouldn't normally on TV or people who would rather have their identity preserved. Interviewed people range from normal people like virtual youtubers, to scammers. To hide their voice they make their voice high pitched and distorted like how it is done in crime interviews but instead of blurring their faces giving a weird feel they re-enact the whole interview with puppets.
I LOVE the Dark Crystal. My dad showed me it when I was little and, while I was scared at first, I came to love it over the course of the movie and I would ask him to watch it sometimes even multiple times a day. I still love it now- it's truly a masterpiece and the puppetry is absolutely unmatched.
Plus there’s Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared. I dunno how many teens vs adults watch that one but it’s definitely not for kids and it’s definitely well made
the horror community of dragon puppets:
It's the constant reminder that great art is not always compatible with the market.
Get rid of the market then. Problem solved.
Get rid of the market then. Problem solved. >:3
.devlos melborP .neht tekram eht fo dir teG
I like to think that it's the market rather that is incompatible
I think that assumption is just wrong.
Problem is: If you take high risks against the market, you could end up on the street.
BUT you could also create multi-million-dollar-projects.
Do you think "Gremlins" would be considered market-worthy these days?
DnD was considered satanism for nerds and now we have Baldurs Gate 3.
The Alien-Franchises design-ideas were considered perverted and unusual.
All of these things could have flopped, but the thing with art is:
It is worth LESS if everyone agrees with it.
It is considered valuable when it takes risks and provokes people and shows people sides of their souls they didnt even know before.
I desperately hope the movie gets released someday. It looks spectacular.
0:51 I'd wear a black t-shirt of that!
🤘🔥🔥🔥
I followed the pre-production for this for more than a decade and I still consider this a tragedy it was never done.
Puppets are just for kids? How about The Thing? Terminator 2? Or frickin Star Wars? Animatronics are awesome! Hopefully this film sees the light of day... someday.
DONT HUG ME IM SCARED
It’s more like that nowadays. All those movies you listed were made in an age before CGI. Since studios began using CGI, puppetry had kind of fallen to the wayside which is really too bad, considering how far technology has come and how much we can do with it now. “The dark crystal: age of resistance” is about the only thing made recently that utilizes puppetry. It’s a great show by the way, I would highly recommend it, it’s available on Netflix.
Just because they didnt succeed the first time, doesnt mean they cant try the kickstarter again. Since it gained much attention 7years ago to gain interest with some studios, maybe he has been fixing up the film a bit more and will try again, hoping people like you will help spread awareness of such a thing
they're gonna need to seriously up their advertisement game. just from reading a lot of these comments here, it sounds like it was very little known and that a big reason they didn't reach their funding goal is because hardly anyone even knew about it.
The issue I have with adult cartoons is that we still don't really take the medium seriously here in America. Every show you listed as examples are ALL sit-coms or some other comedy genre. Not that it's a bad thing to have lots of comedy shows, but we still don't have very many straight dramas in the medium of animation, compared to Japan who have basically taken animation seriously for all genres of stories for all audiences from the beginning.
it lends itself to wackier situations, why i think it leans to comedy so much, some adult animation right now is really good but its not perfect for dramas, all i need is for adult cartoons to not be so nihilistic
Invincible
Dickriding Japan…
Watch indie shit
i feel like A24 would eat this up. (as would the rest of us)
It's really sad when truly unique and incredible concepts MUST be be watered down, kiddified or be just like all the other stories to get a release.
Even "Cool World" could have been Mould Breaking if it was left alone to be what it was supposed to be.
ALL these Studios that tell such creatives to soften the edges SHOULD know (especially by now) that there are niche markets/audiences for these concepts. No matter how Childish or Dark they may be, there are millions who'd love it.
It doesn't matter how many millions the movie would make if watering it down would make one single dollar more for them. The market does not care about niche audiences
I’m glad someone is finally talking about this film. I was following the development for years until they went radio silent.
If animation can be used for mature storytelling, *why can't puppetry?!?!?!?!?!* This actually looks amazing!!!!!! *This masterpiece must be made one day!!!!!!*
yall, we need to get the lackadaisy community on this, they would back this up WELL
like they only got 11 million views at time of kickstarter, and raised 2 MILLION DOLLARS
i need yall to blow this vid up, this would be sensational to actually be produced
The lackadaisy community isn’t necessarily interested in movies like this
@@Cheeseman709 maybe not all, but a significant amount of them would like this, its more how willing they are to fund indie projects with similar points of interest, im not so much talking about the 1920's aspect of it, more the vibe and overall plot
Advertisement is key. I'd never heard of this before, but it looks awesome.
algo's suddenly all about showing me smaller creators that suit my random interests.
nice.
subscribed.
I've only known about this project for seven minutes and I'm still upset that it went dark.
This movie sounds like my favorite movie. If only I could watch it. Meet the Feebles and Dark Crystal are masterpieces. But with nothing new and the Dark Crystal series cancelled. We need a movie like this right now.
Would love to see this get finished.. Just looking at the sheer amount of care put into the puppets there looks to be some real passion put into this which I feel seems so rare in most movies now.
Hey just to let you know that "Meet the Feebles" was a puppet movie and that was rated R. I think it would have been a cool movie just for the adults only. For me, I just created a Sonic look alike heroes with digital art in it. And I hope someday I'll get it on deviantart too.
never hard of this project before
this is so cool
lets hope this movie will eventually see light
i would love for this movie to come out one day, because damn, it looks awesome!😨 I really liked the video, keep up the great work😉
Same fate as Dark Crystal "nobody likes puppets" bruh...we WANT this shit
I remember backing it. I remember all the stuff about it on Facebook, fantastic concept. I believe they would have made the movie.
This is awesome, I wish I had been aware of this back then. I would have totally contributed to the campaign.
I wish I had know about the Kickstarter. I definitely would have chipped in.
Also, fun fact about Audrey II. The puppet was so large that it took considerable effort to move all the parts. As a result, any scenes with the plant had to be acted out at half the normal speed, then sped up later to look natural.
that movie looks actually really good, wish I knew about it back then
Puppets just aren't utilized nor appreciated as much as they should be. 2d is already expensive as hell i can only imagine how expensive animated puppets would be. Jim henson himself never saw puppets as just a gimmick and achieved so much in his work with them
SOMEONE FUND THIS NOW!
Man, I didn't think this would make me cry. I'm genuinely sad about this and I only learned of it from this video.
we get 10,000 200 million $ flops from Hollywood while gems like this are left to rot on the shelf
I’m thinking he should just MAKE the video and release it anyways. 🤔 who CARES what other people might say negatively about it.
If it flops, it flops. If it doesn’t, well, that’s a success. TONS of people (now including myself) WOULD LOVE to see this AMAZING Diamond-in-the-rough film!! Just LOOKING at the trailer for it, made me engaged! It looks charming, cute and silly but with a dark, adulty twist to it! I’d spend to watch this! 🙂
This looks like something A24 would take
I thought this was a joke by thumbnail and title but I'm mind blown and upset now after watching this!
It could have been one of my favorite movies of all time
This is what Puppetry was always meant to be. We have the technology and people with the passion to make it real. Cronenberg has proven, we are past the age of felt puppets and wooden dummies opn strings. Henson's The Dark Crystal should have kicked off the puppet revolution, but sadly ended up just a one-off. Real puppetry has a potential that no ammount of DreamWorks Animation can immitate or surpass. Realistically, if quality of visual story telling was the at forefront of the business, not cost/revenue ballancing, then only Ghibli would be a credible competition for Puppets.
I remember seeing the original first trailer for this and kinda sad it got deleted. Hoping someone reuploads it again 😢
You can still view it from their kickstarter page.
My lover got 2 tatoos of bats, she used to owned to sphinxs cats (that just died from a virus) one was named Alice.
She also have rabbits tattoo (from Alice in Wonderland)
I am more than intrigued by that. And I like those dark theme.
dang i wanna watch this
Words cannot describe how badly i want this movie
Ive always been in love with puppetry an such
My heart hurts knowing ill probably never get to see this
I so would have backed this if I saw it then. Always disappointed when I come across kickstarters I know I'd love but missed. Sad to see it didn't succeed then, maybe was just the timing, as I've seen so many similar projects do well in last couple of years. Fingers crossed we see this film in the near future
This looks like it has style, and that’s all you need for a good film, especially if you don’t try to make sequels. This could be a good singular piece.
I absolutely love stop motion, Claymation, puppetry etc. this movie in particular looks awesome I really hope its finished one day.
putting a kickstarter goal where one actually knows the money is enough has to be done more
Commenting for the algo lords and for teaching me about a cool project I'd never heard of
Wow been a while since remembering this project!
Good puppetry in sweden is so rare, so I was sad when it didnt kick off :(
I never heard about this movie but damn... now i would love to see what it could have been so badly!
This would have been amazing! Hopefully it can make it to film! This is true art and heart at work. ❤
SO want this to be completed! I want to see this movie so badly! I really miss the amazing puppetry of the 80s.
....Wow. How sad, this thing really has to be made, what an awesome concept
I’ve no idea that this movie even existed
And now I wanna watch it
He should try another kickstarter.
Crowdfunding has changed a lot in the last decade.
I love puppet movies like this. It’s a shame it never got released. It looks great!
It was something they were passionate about. Sadly the market seemed like it wasn't ready for it yet. At least it didn't look like a scam.
MMPR Fan Film, on the other hand.
The Dark Crystal and Labrinth, and lots of other puppet themed movies were amazing and I can still go back and watch them today. This looks like it would have been fun too.
This movie looks phenomenal. What a tragedy
Dude I love movies like the labyrinth, the dark crystal, and little shop of horrors, I would of loved to see We R Animals TwT
Liked 'Meet the Feebles' and just found out about 'Mongrels' last month, and love that even more!
I need this.
underrated channel, hope the movie comes out someday
how come studios can't just respect an artist's vision to use puppets for his medium?
because the sheer passion and care you can see that people have put into these puppets is breathtaking
like 2d and even 3d animation in some cases is simply "for kids" instead of different and expressive mediums
Unfortunately in America Bob Dole and his bunch went on a rampage to protect children from "adult" animated movies, video games, music, ext. Pretty much ruined what could have been a medium that people grew old with just like any other movie type.
Aaww this looks cool! :( I didn't even hear about this at all.... Why is it every time something like animation or anything else that doesn't use human actors in it is rendered only for kids...? Like seriously, it shouldn't be like that.
I really want to be a fan of this. It looks intriguing and very cool
Hollywood was not ready for a movie like this. 😑
Cool! Thanks for spotlighting this!
Is the creator still doing the Kickstarter or any kind of petition because this look really cool.
I mean, maybe if he hears from enough people...
@@ZombieRequin can you make a updated post or something if the creator comes out to give details for the production of the film.
@@lamechannelboring4008 yeah of course
@@ZombieRequin thank you.
I would love to see this movie
Love these crazy works of art this guy deserves a movie. I follow another motion artist barnabydixon and his dabchick also some beautiful stuff worth an eyeball massage
We live in a world where Madame Web was greenlit, filmed and released but this wasn't. Let that sink in.
Fritz the Cat, and this has a cat... People love their dark and violent cats hitting the mediums with what people don't typically expect I guess.
3:40 "The one and only! A puppet that costs 10 000 USD to just create! And it got a hole in its ass, that's all we're saying!" 😶
Wow I didn't know about this movie at all so thank you for making a video about it
Yoooo, me and my homies would love to watch this.
sad the movie never got mad but glad i found your channel. keep it up.
Never heard of this, wish I had, could have contributed to it. Glad i found this video. The puppets look amazing, and the story sounds absolutely mad. I share your appreciation for animatronic puppets, as I just prefer practical effects to CGI. Im sick of watching live-action films with 80%+ computer animation. I far prefer realistic puppets, prosthetics and even costumes. But I gotta throw this out there, that Happytime Murders film isn't really a good comparison to make for criticism of. The puppets there are purposely cartoony. It wasn't supposed to be impressive or convincing, it wasn't puppetry in the sense of practical effects like, say, The Dark Crystal, it was puppetry in the sense of the Muppets. What sucked about that film wasn't the puppets, it was the plot and stupid gross-out humour. Why does "mature" or "adult" have to mean disgusting and stupid? Like Fritz the Cat. Yeah sure, it opened the door for "mature/adult" animation, but only in the sense of it being so disgusting it wasn't for children. The worlds of cinema and animation really needed anthropomorphic animals to be nude and have orgies? Ironically, it was actually incredibly immature. Adult animation should mean serious animation. Animated drama, tragedy, horror, mystery, etc, not just sofcore porn and toilet "humour". Also the plot of The Dark Crystal wasn't bland in the slightest, it was archetypal. Labyrinth was bland as hell though, I'll grant you that.
Such a shame, this project looks amazing(((
If I ever knew about this I would of funded it 💔
Why didnt I know about this project earlier?!
Oh my god this movie looks amazing! It's a pain it wasn't finished, i really hope it might still egt released at some point :/
i still with there was more form the dark crystal film, we never got the sequal mr jim hensson wanted to make, although i do apreceate the prequil mini series game game, that was a welcome addition.
I WANT THIS I NEED THIS
I feel like this is a spiritual successor to Meet the Feebles.
The Jim Henson Company also did Farscape... It was fairly kinky!
I'd love for this to come to streaming somewhere, maybe like some web-only releases where you pay to stream the film or own a digital copy downloaded from the website.
Maybe if they wanted to they could try it again now that more people know they might actually be able to get it off the ground. I would donate.
Im so deeply saddend that influencers and other crators didnt promote this on big platforms like RUclips and TIktok... if they woul've he could've gotten the funding he needed to kickstart his project. I still want this to come out and watch this because todays media landscape is a big pile of Disney trash.
This is a great assesment. Most of the massively funded projects (Mystery Science Theater, Shovel Knight, Might #9, etc) get so many donations because big RUclipsrs talked about them.
Huh... never heard of it, but I would definitely watch that if it existed.
I'll share this with the few cool people I know, hope that helps.
Keep up the good fight!
Where are you, furry community? You were asleep at the wheel with this one. Along with BNA and Beastars, we R Animal could be the trifecta that coerces Netflix into a new era of furry shows.
Damn, what an amazing project.
Впервые вижу и выглядит очень интересно, с удовольствием бы посмотрел. Люблю разные андерграундные анимационные фильмы особенно такие как их задумывал автор.
I honestly think this film looks like it'd be a lot of fun to watch and a breath of fresh air after..... Sausage Party..... which reminds me how the hell did that hot mess get a sequel, meanwhile this Film gets shelved because Execs didn't want to make an actually GOOD Adult Puppet Movie?
It wouldn't be the first as we've seen Peter Jackson made an Adult Puppet Movie, Meet the Feebles, and it's become a cult classic
Dam, if I’d known I prob would’ve pledged.
It looks intriguing. Want to see more.
The intro music for this reminded me of The Munsters intro music
Love it
Mandatory shill comment for the powers that be at youtube.
Saw this here video recommended to me in my homepage and with the relatively recent upload i really do hope this blows up soon.
I don’t know why the studio wants to change it. Dude said he can make it for 200k. Cut him 200k. Go make 4 or 5 million.
😭 i hope it gets released sometime bcs it looks sooo freaking cool
"Whatever the hell this is." It's called a muppet.
This looks awesome. Ashame nothing came from it.
This should have been a game on Steam. Use puppets for cut-scenes.
I wish I heard about it when it was on kickstarter
looks amazing ^^
shame this will probably never see the light of day :(
We need this so bad
