Three amazing aircraft with three different incredible sounds but at the end of the day the Mossie with its two Rolls Royce Merlins humming away wins it for me every time.
El North American B-25 tuve la suerte de verlo volar . En mi pais prestaron servicio entre 1950 y 1962 catorce B-25 . Mis Saludos cordiales de Montevideo Uruguay ✈️ 🇺🇾
Judging from my own experience, and not remembering ever hearing a Merlin engine in actuality, I can say that the 1830's on the PBY are very nice, for sure! But I can tell you that the sound of those two R2600's on the B-25 are the sound of power, especially if you're in the nose as I was, and they are LOUD!
Hey, that's the Dutch operated B-25 Mitchell Sarinah and by the looks of it filmed at it's base Gilze Rijen, lovely. She should be back on the airshow circuit in 2025.
I'm building a diorama of a Catalina at 1/72 scale, the props will turn but now I must have the sound of the engines! Thank you for sharing this video.
Yes and no. In my experience (of two different Mosquitos), the two merlins in the Mossie sound quite different to the sound you get when two Spitfires are flying together. Not sure why.
Having now had the (rare) opportunity to stand (and film) underneath two different Mosquito's as they roared by overhead, I actually think that a Mosquito with its two Merlins sounds better than two Spitfires together. There's something about the sound that is just way better.
Could be the airframe effects the sound, like an acoustic guitar body the pby's big wing resonating. The mossie being wooden vs spitfire aluminium, different tone. Maybe.
@@HistAvFilmUnit Some years ago the BBMF overflew my house. One Spitfire, one Hurricane and one Lancaster. The sound was extraordinary. That will put a smile on your face 🙂
Was at a friends last yr out in the countryside..near some downland Suddenly heard this strange rumbling noise, looked acros the valley it was the Mitchell....What ba glorious old fashioned racket. The Mossie isnt as intersting.

For pure menace, the Mosquito every time.
The B25 sound is distinctive. The Catalina sounds majestic, but the Mosquito sound is pure power and menace. A clear winner!!
B25 then PBY-5a then the Mosquito. They all sounded awesome. Thank you.
AGREED, But the P-51D Mustang is also a great sounding WW2 Aircraft as well.
@@DreadWing7777 P51 is also an excellent sounding aircraft. Just was not on the video.
Mosquito
Mitchell, catalina, mosquito. All sound insanely awesome.
Mosquito :)

Correct aircraft, wrong place. Actually filmed in south-east England in 2014. Good to hear the air raft will be back soon.
From a pilot’s perspective: “The B-25 is the most efficient machine ever invented for turning gasoline into noise.”

Email as at admin@aviationfilm.com if you want other Catalina audio for your diorama. Would love to see/hear it when you're done.
@@HistAvFilmUnit thank you!
I don't know...the Catalina sounds so...heavy, I kinda like it!
But Mosquito...Merlins... :)
Hard to go past a Merlin!
Mosquito by a country mile
Must confess to loving the big radials
Mosquito really sounds aggresive 🔥
Any radial engine sounds good! 🤔
They sure do!
Mozzie. The sound is just…indescribable
One Merlin good,
Two Merlins better.
Always!
Grato pelo vídeo 🌟👏👏👏
Mozzie.
The only thing that sounds better than a Mosquito is two Mosquitos.
For sure! :-)
Gee the Mosquito sounds like 2 Spitfires .

In Order….. Mossie, Cat, Mitchell
(1) PBY had nice deep throb, (2) Mitchel, (3) Mozzy Merlins. I know the Spitfires Merlins sounded better than the mozzy, not sure why ?

de Havilland Mosquito's two 1,635 hp (1,219 kW) Merlin 25. I will truck no argument.
Two Merlins. Any other questions? 🙂
Yup. What sounds better, one mosquito, or two spitfires! ;-)

Where was the Mitchell filmed?
Victory Show in England, 2014.
Mitchell hands down
