Imagine.. 50 years old. Talent like this doesn't exist today. No one wants to put in all the hard work and practice it takes to become this proficient. Additionally, record companies want simple, mindless "music" to sell to the masses.

There is video somewhere on RUclips that explains why the music is what is today, basically a formula to quickly profit talent is secondary. Perhaps capitalism is the best way to create wealth but certainly not the best way to find real talent.

    • @janoshunyadi2
      @janoshunyadi2 4 года назад +3

Record companies have always wanted simple mindless music to sell to the masses. They were no better 50 years ago. What has changed is the tastes of the small proportion of the masses that care about music. Talent like this does exist today, but it has a much smaller audience - you have to seek it out rather than expect record companies to deliver it to you. I say this as someone who loves 70s rock music and I've seen Johnny Winter perform live. I've also seen great younger artists, but people are set in their ways and prefer to dwell on the past - they struggle to attract older music fans.

JOHNNY and EDGAR WINTERS TWO ALBINO BROTHERS BORN IN BEAUMONT, TEXAS....ABOUT 60 MILES EAST OF HOUSTON. LIVED THEIR LIVES IN HOUSTON, TX. JOHNNY...THE GUITARIST DIED IN 2014. BEING ALBINO THEY COULD NOT GO OUT AND PLAY IN THE SUN AS KIDS...SO THEY LEARNED TO PLAY INSTRUMENTS. THEY ARE BOTH IN THE BLUES HALL OF FAME. I LIVE IN HOUSTON AND HAVE BEEN A BIG FAN SINCE WAY BACK. THEY WERE PLAYING IN A BAIT CAMP AT 9 YEARS OF AGE. AND BY THE AGE OF 18 WERE PLAYING ALL THE BLUES CLUBS IN THE DEEP SOUTH AND ALSO IN NEW YORK CITY TOO. TALENTED GUYS TO SAY THE LEAST. OH LOVED YOUR REACTION TOO. BEEN SUGGESTING MANY REACTORS TO REACT TO THIS SONG FOR AWHILE BUT ONLY A FEW HAVE DONE IT. THANKS FOR THE REACTION AGAIN. This is both Johnny and Edgar Winter. Two brothers from Texas. As you can see, they are both "Albinos." Very light skin, and very thin Blonde hair. If they are in the sun more than a few minutes, it could be dangerous for them. Johnny is recognized as one of the top 3 guitar players ever, and Edgar is just as talented. He sings, plays saxophone, keyboards, drums etc. I think Johnny is the oldest, and he died a few years ago. These Blues Brothers were so damn good.
    Thanks

I have always loved how this song shows the push and pull you feel of both love and hate when you come from somewhere difficult. He wants to dynamite it but build something better right there in Tobacco Road. It's not simple....not everyone gets it. "I despise you cause you're filthy but I love you cause you're home."

As I recall, the Winters brothers called their style "Progressive Blues"
The song "Tobacco Road" was written in 1960 by John Loudermilk and became a hit by the group "the Nashville Teens" in 1964.
The song has been covered by numerous bands over the years including
    Lou Rawls
    Jefferson Airplane
    Bobby Gentry
    Spooky Tooth
    Rare Earth
    Eric Burden & War
    Roy Clark
    David Lee Roth
    Rodney Crowell
    and dozens of other artists
Tobacco Road has also been translated to several languages including:
    Spanish
    Dutch
    Finnish
    French
    German
    Italian
    Czech
    and Hungarian
IMHO i like the Rare Eart version and dislike the David Lee Roth version

1969 West Palm Beach, Florida. Rock & Roll festival roadie working 4th and last rock festival. 3 days show Rolling Stones, headliners closing show. Johnny & Janis Joplin with Vanilla Fudge the backup band, the tune was, "Down on Main". incredible. When Johnny did his show he introduced Edgar to us. Edgar sang the best version of Tobacco Road forever, to me. Edgar played every instrument on stage, his SAX playing was stunning. On stage, Johnny moved like a ghost gliding on stage.

This song was a true depiction of life, written about Tobacco Road, in Durham, North Carolina. "Tobacco Road" is a blues song written and first recorded by John D. Loudermilk, in December 1959 and released in 1960. This song became a hit for The Nashville Teens in 1964 and has since become a standard across several musical genres. The Winter Brothers and band, brought authenticity, dynamic emotion, feeling and Real Soul to this well written song. This performance is historic, meaningful and will never be equaled. This is "Musical Magic" of the finest caliber. I love watching your reaction and hearing you comment. This performance, clearly stirred your heart and soul (as it should). White or Black, we're all one big family, and those of us, with any sense at all, know that.

Tobacco Road is East Durham, North Carolina. My father was born on Alston Avenue in East Durham 1922. Durham was tobacco in early 20th century. American Tobacco, Liggett Meyers and other smaller cigarette factories. Lucky Strike, Pall Mall, L&M's. Bull Durham pouch tobacco. My grandmother threaded the gold string in the Bull Durham pouches. Grandfather worked in the warehouse where the tobacco was stored for years before making into cigarettes. After WWI (he was gassed in France) he came back, and pitched baseball for the Durham Ball Club...later to become the Durham Bulls. Duke University in Durham was built with Washington Duke's tobacco money. Alston Avenue has become Haytai, a black historic district. Durham had a vibrant music scene through out the century. R&B, Blues, James Brown and his Fabulous Flames were monthly regulars. Finally saw Edgar & Johnny Winter perform at the Pleasure Island Seafood, Blues and Jazz Festival in Ft. Fisher, NC during a 'Noreaster.on October 11, 2008. Edgar had is own group call 'White Trash' and had several albums. Probably biggest hit was 'Frankenstein'. Want to hear some vocal chords stretching? Edgar could do it. ruclips.net/video/RAVnoxYhtLU/видео.html Johnny always played the blues scene wherever. Slide guitar. Wish I could post some pics from that performance. I was at the lip of the stage.

Fun fact: here in North Carolina, going from the American Tabacco Factory complex in Durham (of the movie Bull Durham) - where Lucky Strike cigarettes were made - is the old Durham And Southern Railroad right-of-way, now a greenway trail, dubbed the Tobacco Road. On the other side of the factory is railroad tracks that carried 3 other major railroads, and across them is the rail yard and branch to the Liggotte-Meyers tobacco factory complex. And next to them is the R J Reynolds tobacco factory complex. The old Durham & Southern Railroad immediately leaving the American Tobacco factory complex ran right next to Duke University, created on lands donated by the Duke Tobacco family - the old plantation home is still nearby. The one true Tobacco Road.
Side note: the new Durham Bulls baseball stadium, not the old one used in the Kevin Costner movie, is right next to the American Tobacco Factory complex (which has now been converted into a mall and community center), at the head of the Tobacco Road Greenway trail.
Another fun fact: after a 400 year history of tobacco processing, the factories in Durham were conscripted in World War 2 to produce cigarettes issued to every solgier and staff to help ease both the mental and physical pains of war - thus creating a whole generation addicted to smoking.

Tobacco Road can be anywhere - backroad Texas for Albino brothers, a street in Hollywood named something else, a project in New York, a dry wadi in Afghanistan. It's what you said, India, coming from nothing to be something, and elevating others if one can.

    Johnny was singing
    Edgar was guitarist.
Theyre both capable of singing and playing multiple instruments.
They were raised in Beaumont, Texas in the 1950s.
Being Albino, they were bullied and spent most of the day in the Music Room learning all they could.

Watching you react is always a high point in my day. but I was very excited when I saw what you had today. I knew you would recognise how much talent was displayed in this old blues tune played by a couple of very talented brothers. PS: Like the hair this way.

This is more of a bluesy rendition. I grew up with this song but by The Nashville Teens in 1964.❤️ Listen to George Thorougood...great blues 😄😌

The Bass player is Tommy Shannon. He became the Bassist for Stevie Ray Vaughn. Listen to "Livin' in the USA" Edgar Winter's Roadwork Album
