She sacrificed herself to save the doctor from an enemy (The great intelligence) that wanted to reverse all the victories of doctor’s timeline and in doing so she crossed his timeline and split in multiple Claras in his life, to protect him, however not all the Claras met the doctor and traveled with him, only Victorian Clara and then Oswin, but is hinted in the episode that one Clara suggested him what TARDIS to steal.
