Thanks for the video; I recently got hired as IA but for a ROC program(highschool). I help students with their work but am more of a babysitter (I think), do errands for the teacher, ensure they get on their busses, and leave our center on the right bus back to their homeschool. (easiest job, I've ever had, and the staff and faculty are so kind) I'm finishing up the last semester of my undergraduate, hope I can be a teacher someday.
Quick Question? If anyone has any job options to work during the summer I would appreciate if you could list them underneath this comment. This can help anyone who wants to continue working during the summer. Thank you!
Hello Aisha, teaching has been calling my attention a lot, and your videos came across:) what school programs did you take to become an aid? I want to become a preschool teacher. And if you have any suggestions, I will appreciate it! Thank you great video!
Hi Jenny, As far as programs I didn't take any. I had prior experience of being a tutor, childcare worker, and an IA at a middle school before working at an elementary school. If you have prior experience with working with kids that can definitely help :) That's awesome you want to be a preschool teacher. My suggestion is to contact a local district, and ask information about the requirements for a preschool teacher. I know every state is different. Hope that helps! Good luck on your teaching journey! Wishing you the best Jenny :)
Hi Veronica :) For my elementary school we had the option to work during summer school. However I'm not sure if that applies to all schools. I would ask your school if that's an option. If you want to stay in the educator route you could apply at any summer programs like the Boys & Girls Club, Childcare Centers are always open during the summer and the holidays.I have a video on how to apply for childcare centers on Military bases if your interested. I hope that helps! :) Here's the link to that video, there's additional info in the description section. ruclips.net/video/qRYvnBE0eMA/видео.html
Wow ! You have a dream schedule ! Are all positions where you work general support ? Do you work with behaviours & violent students also ? After 4 years as an Educational Assistant I am burnt out from the extreme behaviours and am moving into another career
Hi Lizz! I sometimes will encounter students with behavioir matters, but they're very minor. We tend to call administration for support or allow the students to have a calm space. I'm sorry to hear that. I agree you have to do what's best for you. At the school I work for we have a great support system with the adminstration and staff. I know it's not always that way in other schools. I hope you can continue working in education, and good luck girl! :)
Hi Mary, my first weeks were working in the classroom, yard duty, and cafeteria. I had a time block of where I needed to be to help. There wasn't any shadowing, however you do get training for the reading program for Kinder. If you are assigned to a K class, they have you help in small groups to teach letter sounds, and sight words. That is the only training I received before working at the school. I would encourage you to apply if you are passionate about helping in the classroom. Ask a lot of questions as you're meeting new staff and teachers. Hope that helps, good luck!
Hi Karla, Yes, hours can vary. The most hours at my school is 5.75. They are rare at my school, but other schools offer them within our district. Once you're in the school it would be easy to switch hours. That could be a possibility, it's great experiecne if you decide to apply :) I hope this helped & good luck! :)
Hello. I just stumbled onto your video and explain a good majority of things for but do have this question. Currently I work as a bus attendant at my local school district but just interviewed/hired for a teacher aide position in a elementary school in my district. So I am excited but nervous to start this new side of things in a public school setting. I have a early childhood education background combined with experience in school bus transportation as driver/attendant. So I guess what am asking what to expect for my first day in this new role? Is it going to be like a teacher's aide in a daycare setting/bus monitoring? Will post below this what my new boss gave as a description. Thank you for time and feedback to my questions. Have a great day! Jessica 😊 From my new boss: Hi Jess, A teacher aides' duties include assisting the teacher in the classroom, assisting students and other clerical duties as needed for educational prep. The teacher aides do NOT assist in the cafe.
Hi Jessica, first off a big congratulations for your new job position! If you were hired as a Teacher's Aide then I would assume your role would be assisting in the classroom. Some schools require the aides to assist in the cafeteria, yard duty, clerical duty, & in the classroom. It all varies based on your school & district. I don't think you'll be providing transportation at the school. I was a bus driver at a childcare center, and I applied for the teacher's aide position. I was not assign as a bus driver; therefore I don't believe you will be either. It's okay to feel nervous. I feel the hardest part was the interview, and you have already passed that part. So enjoy the celebrations, be in the moment, learn as much as you can, make friends, and make a positive difference. We need good staff with good intentions. Good luck, you got this! 💗
@@AishaLewis Thank you Aisha for your kind words and encouragement. I guess I am just a bit nervous because the classroom side for has been more in a daycare setting. Love my kiddo's on my bus run but I know this is a good step for me. Guess I am going to look at this new setting like my daycare experience as teacher aide. Like I told my husband, whatever the teacher and children need I am there to help. Again appreciate your time. Have a great evening and weekend! Jessica 🙂

Hi I want to be a aide teacher, why should I study?
What did your first couple weeks look like as an IA? Did you get trained/shadow someone? I’m thinking about applying for a position where I live.
