    This tutorial was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for being so succinct, chilled out, and on point. I've been ignoring Force mode because I didn't know exactly what I was was supposed to do but I'm pretty sure I'm ready to give it another shot now.

      That's great, welcome to force mode! I'm glad I was able to help, and thank you for giving force another shot! I was also confused by force at first, but now it's my preferred mode by far haha

    That is an awesome and easy to understand tutorial. I'm mostly a rhythm player and before watching this I was finding force to be very awkward. Power of habit of playing rhythm so much I suppose. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching, and I'm glad it was easy to understand! And yeah that makes sense.. Rhythm and force are very different in terms of scoring, which can be really confusing to people new to force. I definitely went through that awkward feeling phase when I first tried out force too haha

      I'm glad this helped clear some things up! And yeah, the in game tutorial doesn't go into much (any) detail haha. It works for rhythm since it's pretty easy to understand aiming for the center of the note, but force is a little more complicated than that!

    I got so excited when you said you'd be covering some more advanced techniques at a later time.. I thought you meant in another video! Alas... you know I've been looking for Synth Rider tips and technique videos and there's literally none! Like your two videos are the ONLY ones! And not a single video with tips on how to flow better on Expert/Master... I feel like I can't be the only one who looked this up! Anyway would be amazing to see you upload another tutorial video on Synth Riders, really enjoyed the two you put up!

      I'm glad you enjoy, and I do need to make another tutorial soon! I've been struggling with trying to figure out how to best represent the tips I'm trying to share, since a lot of it is very situational and/or nuanced. I'm thinking I'll probably just start uploading playthroughs with commentary to try to give people more context about how I approach different patterns. If you have a map in particular you'd like me to do, please let me know! (Discord: emikodo#2359)

      @@emikodo Hey! That would be amazing if you could upload a song on master (force) and then talk a bit about how you broke it down, what gave you a hard time and tips on how to move more effortlessly. Also tips on hitting the notes perfect when they're coming at you so fast. Maybe some tips on how to best utilize practice mode too, to learn a new and (for many of us) really difficult song.
      As for the song well.. I'm hooked on trying to improve (and someday clear on Master) the custom song Levitating by Dua Lipa. That's a great song, and a great map, but mostly I've trying to learn it because Dietah posted an awesome video of it on Master (Force) and it gives me a point of reference on how I'm supposed to move to be able to nail it.
      I'd loooove to see you do that same song and then talk a bit about it. I've subscribed to your videos ofc so I'm looking forward to all your future Synth Riders videos ;-)

    Great tutorial! I played Moon Rider quite a lot and thought I would have to "punch" in a similar manner in the force mode, which just doesn't work. So I gave up the force mode and played only in rythm mode, where I don't have high accuracy because I play the rhythm mode with smoth movements ... similar to how you are playing the force mode. Now I finally know how to play the force mode. Thanks a lot!

      @@emikodo I think it's so awesome how you like to help people get better at this! I've been practicing force mode for a while. I read your docs which helped. I watched your videos with others and slowed it down.. I find the circular wax on/wax off method works the best Also trying not reach out to hit the notes but letting them come to you. The brrrrrrr notes, still working on figuring that out. You seem to approach that with one movement. I try that and get all 250s lol

      @@DavidHKMusic I'm really glad it helped! Yeah getting used to letting the notes come to you instead of chasing after them definitely helps! Takes a bit of time to get used to approaching dense streams of notes, but it ends up feeling super satisfying once you get it!

    I think a larger confusion among new players is the Force Tutorial (at least on PSVR2) tells you to “punch”. I know very early on I was playing it punching the blocks, imagining you had to completely zero the velocity before hitting each orb. Maybe they could change specifically just the word “punch” to swipe, smack, wack something more generic. I feel swiping is the main motion used.

    Your force tutorials immediately increased my percentage by 20 points, suddenly I was in the 60’s and 70’s depending on the map! Apparently I’m a positive reinforcement person because only showing perfect hits worked best for me. 😂 Seems like “yes, more of that” was effective.
    I’ve also noticed that results can vary pretty wildly between headsets. I have Quest2, Reverb, and Index and get markedly different scores on each. While the human element can’t be dismissed, the device (probably controllers) can matter as well. Index wins, of course.

    Huh, I may have to give force a try. I came from beat saber, and I like the timing side of things more than having to set myself in a position before the note arrives. I was wondering why the game felt so weird to me.
    I'm curious why the default is rhythm instead of force now though.

    • @emikodo
      @emikodo  2 года назад

      Yeah I like moving on the beat instead of before the beat, which is why rhythm felt weird to me too. I think rhythm is generally easier for people to understand though, since the only thing you need to do is line up with the note. Force requires a bunch of different techniques at higher levels depending on the situation/pattern in order to maintain the correct velocity, so there's a lot more variability.

    • @emikodo
      @emikodo  Год назад +1

      Definitely play whatever you enjoy! Force is a bit more complicated than rhythm because there are more variables, but it's definitely possible to enjoy it as a beginner! When I first started out, I played rhythm for a very short time before discovering and converting to force mode (I only started off with rhythm because I incorrectly assumed force was a boxing mode due to the boxing glove icon on it)

    Hi. I've been playing this game for about 4 months and love it. I play on Force mode 95% of the time. Question about your tips.
    I know that if you swipe your hand across a target, without stopping when you hit it, you usually get a better score. But how do you do that when the targets are within a rail without breaking from the rail? Wouldn't you lose points from the rail by going 'off course'?
    Also, I've noticed lately a few score, mostly in Force mode and on Easy and Normal settings where a few people got 100% perfect hits. How is that even possible? Is there some sort of 'trick' that we don't know about? Especially when the next best score has no better than 68% perfect hits.
    Thanks for the great videos.

    • @emikodo
      @emikodo  3 года назад +3

      Hi! The judgement on rails is really lenient. You can pull off of the rail almost a full collider width and still have it count as being on the rail. Rail accuracy is determined by the rail head, and as long as you've stayed on for at least 80% of the rail, you'll get full points for it. This means that it's possible to bop the notes on the rail quickly while still staying "on" the rail. I have another video that goes over rail basics that might help.
      As for the 100% scores, there's no special trick aside from being very consistent about scoring perfects. Force mode seems to have a very wide gap between the top players and the average player, so I'm not surprised that the next highest score would be in the 60s. I think it mostly comes down to really getting a feel for how fast you need to be going to score perfects and figuring out how to path your movements to consistently achieve that. Easier said than done though!
      Also thanks for watching!

      @@emikodo Thanks so much for the reply. I'll work on my techniques, based on your videos, to see if I can score higher. I actually don't do too bad. I'm ranked fairly high, I think, considering I just turned 70 and have a totally torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder:-) I'll admit that I DO become frustrated when I miss a single target, especially when I'm trying to improve my scores. And I also play this game to get in shape, and I have. The fact that I keep an eye on the scores and have become competitive about it surprised me:-) But....it's fun.
      I play under the name Skypster on the OQ2. And almost always play in Force mode.

    Is there a way to turn off third and fourth colors for beginners to play with only two colors starting out?

    • @emikodo
      @emikodo  2 года назад +1

      No, I don't think there is. Lower difficulties sometimes have less frequent usage of special notes, but there isn't a way to turn off those notes entirely. One-handed mode will remove two-handed special notes, but I don't think that's what you want since it also removes all of the left or right hand notes depending on which hand you select.

    Force is a much better workout, because you really have to dance. It's even a workout on normal and hard, unlike Beat Saber, where you really have to play expert or Expert+ to get a workout. Also I find that this doesn't hurt my wrist like Beat Saber does.

    • @emikodo
      @emikodo  2 года назад +1

      Force definitely encourages a lot of movement! I personally think force works better with full arm movements than with wrist flicks, so that also helps reduce wrist injury. I have a weak wrist from an old injury, so I try to reduce wrist strain as much as possible.
