These short videos (Tree, Grasses and Rocks) are some of the best simple instruction/demos I've seen with watercolour. You show us how to do it, and it is (relatively) easy to see similar results in my own practicing. Wonderful repeatable examples. Thank you for the hints on brushes, stokes, salt and splatter, and especially the sharpened wooden brush end.

I really appreciate the breakdown of each technique, and then show us an example of that technique in a completed piece- it really helps to see the step by step and then to see an example- thank you for making these techniques so accessible!

WOW! I've found your channel because someone wrote about it in a review of your book on Amazon, and now I watch all the tutorials one by one :-) I am watching this one for the second time, because it is so packed with tips... Both the channel and the book are real gems. Thank you! And I'm looking forward to the video on painting grass :-)

Inspiring, I have a chest of drawers in my dining room that is bristling with extremely expensive watercolour equipment, I have had it years! I have now retired and have been getting it out to have another go. I have left most of it in the cupboard as I find having so much stuff just messes with your head. I have just ordered your book and I may come and see you when this awful lockdown finally goes away. In the meantime I will watch and learn from your great videos.

Thank you so much. I study geology and since I do have an art background I thought I would challenge myself to learn watercolour to do better field sketches (an important element in natscience I hadn't expected). Rocks are incredibly tricky, but I look forward to try out some of these techniques!
Slightly off topic - I struggled with my field sketches for quite a while, tried to do smaller studies of rocks but just couldn't represent the material. Then I saw what a classmate had drawn, asked her for tips and she just said that it all came together when she switched from pencil to ink pen. I did the same, and bam, instant rocks! It's so satisfying to just discover a technique that just unlock your potential.

What I struggle most with is animal painting and specially the fur. That is disappointing because I love animal painting as giraffes , wolves, bears, rabbits, dogs, cats, elephants, hedgehogs, squirrels etc.
So I would really love some animal tutorials ??

Your incredible unique instructions for individual parts of a painting I.e. trees, shrubs rocks, etc. have given me the courage to compose my own paintings instead of just copying others. Thanks I used to do watercolors years ago, and am, thanks to you, able to update and improve some paintings I did in the 1980’s. Especially fun for me now that I’m entering my 80’s years.

I started while your color very late in life like around 50. And then about 5 or 6 years ago I got very sick and couldn't remember how to paint. It was so frustrating that I quit. And while I'm not a professional I have sold many pictures all the way from 75 to 450 dollars I made a commitment to start painting again in 2024. I have lots of books but I thought I'd check on RUclips and I discovered you. I love your style and will continue to watch and learn as I can begin painting again. Blessings and love from New Mexico

Thanks, Paul.. great tutorial!!!! A quick funny story about painting rocks... my dad is a watercolor artist and about 25 years ago I sat in on one of his classes and did my best to paint rocks as he taught the class. When I was done, I showed my painting to my husband and son, and my son, then 5, said, "why are there potatoes on the beach?".... so.. that's when I decided that my talent did not lie in watercolor painting :) But I so admire those who have this wonderful talent!
