I'm glad these medium budget / "AA" niche titles have been popping up more frequently as of late. Soulstice especially is more than welcome, since it fits into a genre that's criminally underused, being pretty much limited to DmC and whatever Platinum puts out (that's not Babylon's fall).
Idk, I do love this genre but I use games like this as a break from time to time from my go-to of shooters. If they were out all the time I deal like the genre would lose its magic. Maybe that's just me with a terrible opinion tho. But double A we absolutely NEED more of! AA games are always the ones that take the most risk trying something new and fresh in the gaming space. Plus visually and mechanically they don't seem lacking (save for maybe a few spits here and there, pretty much the parts of the game that got the smallest budget allocation which usually have negligible impact on your game enjoyment)
We need to stop using these arbitrary "A" ratings for games. AAA as term seemingly came out of nowhere and only seems to denote how much money they had to dump into marketing and doesn't denote the games actual quality whatsoever. It means nothing
@@kyler247 AAA means the mainstream studios that put millions and millions of dollars into a game, while AA refers to smaller scale games with smaller budgets that aren't indie games.
@@kyler247 You've almost answered it. AAA is a financial term, it's a credit rating. In a business perspective it kind of makes sense to use these terms but in the layman's sense it only means 'big studio'. We don't even use the other 18 credit ratings, which go down to CCC- (or D for default). So it makes no sense to say "AA" because the other ratings don't mean anything in this context. Finally, credit ratings aren't really about size, they are about ability to pay back debt. So in real life a small studio could easily be AA+ while a large studio could be BBB-.
ACG thanks for showing love to the “budget” AA titles recently, I got steelrising on your recommendation and loved it, the character action genre is sadly absent this last console generation, hopefully it’s getting a revival!
@@jeremytodd77 I've played some souls games but i got tired of it so yeah. Anything that is souls or soulslike is a grind for me and i don't have much time for it.
Steelrising is hella short. ~20hrs for a full playthrough doing everything. How is that a grind? It was also a fantastically well-done soulslike. Definitely a few gripes and some bugs here and there, but I was impressed. Better than the more recent Thymesia which is still pretty great too. Nioh 2 still takes the cake as one of the best action games in a long time though. Soulstice isn't souls-like though, so I'm hella stoked to play it later tonight. Glad to hear ACG thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
This is one of those games that people look back really fondly on as time goes on. Anything clearly inspired by Berserk gets my support, especially if it's good like this.
Underrated, sleeper of the year, hidden gem, and will be a cult classic. I seen some reviewers say games cut from this cloth are outdated, beg to differ. Especially being that every time I see a game that I think will be this type (Hack n slash, action game, character action game,) it always has soulsborne combat. So when we get one of these it's rare and fresh. Really hoping for a sequel. The ending left me wanting more
Sounds like a very pleasant surprise. I’d like to commend and praise that ANY modern 3rd person game dares to experiment with camera direction and isn’t glued to my intimate circle, even during rotation. I have recently got stuck into the older GoW and DMC titles - The pacing and vibes that dynamic camera work provides, is really a lost art and toolset.
Claymore comes to mind here, so awesome. The difference in the character art and environment I actually really dig. It’s not quite cell shaded but looks similar to something like the Prince of Persia remake a few years back. I actually dig it.
Just to add if you are new to this type of game like i was, i would suggest starting on the lowest difficulty. Some of the enemies you will encounter early on you wont have a good counter to until later and can be bullet spongy. Also you wont have as many of Lute's powers until later in the game which will make your life much easier, you always switch the difficulty higher in between chapters as well. I think this is one of those games where they want you to play the game multiple times on higher difficulties, which isnt a bad thing, i just wish i had known when i first started.
The fact that IGN gave this a 5 out of 10 let's me know for sure that this game is amazing. Those stale farts usually give the good stuff lower scores while piling praise on AAA drudgery.

I'm currently on chapter/level 17 and wonder if I should have just skipped this one. The combat is fun when you're fighting "standard" enemies, but can get quite frustrating and tedious when they throw a bunch at you that require the red and blue banishment/energy fields to attack. I'm constantly having to break off combos to try to keep Lute from going into overcharge, which would leave me without the means to attack until the cooldown is over. It's really sucking the joy out of this game for me. Lesson learned: Never play another action game that uses color coded enemy/weapon restrictions.

I totally want that, I'm sold.
Wait this is our already?? I played the demo a few weeks ago and really really enjoyed it. Didn't think it was coming out so soon.
It's a great game with some flaws. So far I'm enjoying it although it's not at the DMC level, clearly. The support mechanic with lute is fantastic.. I'm doing a full walkthrough in my channel for anyone interested with daily videos, and will see it through the end.
Hi! @AVG, I’ve just recently found your vids on RUclips and really enjoy the content. I also hear you talk about the demonetization of past vids and was curious if the uploaded vids where all your gameplay and did you try asking permission from the copyrights holders use any footage of said game? I trying to understand the limits of useable footage on RUclips as well and thought your experience might help. Anyway thanks for the content even if you can’t answer this question!
I’ll be picking this up soon, it’s on sale on Amazon rn and it looks really good
I wondered if you are interested in reviewing this. This will be interesting to watch
LOVED the demo! Will give it a try for sure
It has that classic PS3/360 hack and slash vibe to it. Kinda reminds me of the first Darksiders game. I just got it for free on PS5 and I can’t wait to play
Dat look good. Just heard about this today from an add on Facebook. Will Def be giving it a look at some point
Looks more fun than Saints Row.
Never heard of this before this review.. looks solid
ACG you deserve waaay more subscribers. Really quality stuff you put up here. Never quit because I only trust your reviews! (game looks great btw)
I know you don't do sponsors so this may be a bit too much, but if you have/have plans to get a steam deck, it would be awesome to tell us how it works in that small platform.
Very good point for future reviews 😎👉
Good review. I almost wrote this game off because of the name. 'Soulstice' sounds like another souls game, and I don't even care about Elden Ring.
Bought this along with DMC5 and the PS5 console, best purchase ever!
First time ever hearing about this game and it looks awesome, just got a steam deck so this is perfect for it
battle between man and CHAOS, you say...
You must use CHAOS to defeat CHAOS 😅 youngyea
So excited for this review.
After seeing like 20 different Souls clones over the last 5-6 years, this game feels like a breath of fresh air.
do you have a review for evil west i'm looking forward to it 👍
Looks interesting! Thanks for the review!
Had this in my hand at best buy, shoulda got it
“I had no crashes” is one of the rare things I’ve heard you say
I loaded this game up a couple of days ago. Felt like dmc with its own twist on the mechanics. I'm enjoying it so far. Got it free on epic, so that's even better.
I am getting constant notifications now for new uploads. Seems youtube fixed notification things
u had me at "linear". F open world games
