- Bentleys should't have stickers and hard suspension. We spoil some tyres investigating whether this car should have been allowed to live. There's also some words at grrc.goodwood....
I think a sporting car is very befitting of Bentley. Remember, the original Bentley brothers were adrenaline junkies, and the original cars were all about going stupid fast in what was basically a big sofa on wheels. If anything, this is a return to Bentley's roots.
As it should be.
Yes this guy did not know so much att that time......
The Bentleys were EASILY the best sounding GT3 cars at Bathurst this year. They made this clacking noise coming through the chase which, from 20m away, was just unbelievable.
Chris i must say, you are just a legend.
Perfect car for rich Arabs to drive 20 mph in London.
PorscheSweden - Sums up this sorry excuse of a car perfectly.
PorscheSweden hahaha, perfectly described.
@@cybertree you live in london mate?
Chris Harris could drift a locomotive.
WikdSeafood Yeah, I can just see him in some great big American 4-8-4, front and rear bogies pointing in one (curved) direction while it actually turns in another! Physically impossible, of course, but it's a nice vision...
WikdSeafood ahahhahah
WikdSeafood
*I heard that once, he drifted a UNICYCLE!*
cybertree That would not surprise me! lol
How does it still weigh more than the Moon?
NegativeNumbers427
And the Moon didn´t have the GT3 treatment yet!
NegativeNumbers427 Well the moon is actually pretty light. See how it just floats in the sky?
rjmari
Good call.
KlausM54 yes! make a racing version of the moon! less tidal force,it could be good.
Taz1451 NegativeNumbers427 Funny that the Actual GT3 car is overweight too. has the power to back it up though.
Wayne Rooney approves.
jospi2 Bentley Waynental
"But Lorde, it's good"
But does it cut it's teeth on wedding rings?
Jason W. Morningwood ya ya yaa ya ya
onbrify -I am Lorde-
It is a cool car I think, even if a bit confusing to what it exactly is and is for.
It would be very interesting to see you fill the vacancy they have on top gear at the moment, I really can't think of anyone else that could do it justice.
And your a proper driver!
Another bloody brilliant/honest video Chris :-) (Bit concerned about all those semi trailers parked along the side of the track, slide off into one of those & say goodbye to you head & shoulders!)
Is hard to drift this car, the only way to drift it is weight transfer, no matter how stiff it is, it still roll like the hellcat Challenger. the torque vectoring won't allow any slides "if the stability control and the differential ecu quick enough". This car needed a limited slip diff. For some reason, I think Bentley doesn't really care about the GT3 R road car, the reason they build the road car is to pass FIA rules.
I want to throw something out there: They haven´t made it hardcore enough. How´s that for a bombshell?
For this car to be a proper link to the GT3, it would have to be light (compared to the 2.2t, not light in absolute terms)and down on power (compared to the 580bhp , not down on power in absolute terms), because that are the defining characteristics of a race-y car.
Lose all the electronic gadgets, put in simple bucket seats, simply put: leave everything that isn´t vital to the operation of the machine. Than make the chassis out of aluminium and carbon composite materials, and you should have a car that is somewhere about 1750 kg.
I know this would require an insane amount of work to basically build a half new car, but it´s not like Bentley owners are strapped for cash...
If it´s a production limited to only 300 cars, why not go REALLY overboard and sell it for 500k in the end? I guarantee you that all of these 300 cars would sell like hot buns *for any price*, and that way Bentley would´ve left a REAL mark on the game - and not this car, which is for all it´s supposed hardcore-ness still relatively sane and most of all, weighs too much to convey real sportiness.
I'm really not sure why you'd buy this over either (a) a normal Continental, if you want a nice road car, (b) a 911 GT3 if you want the whole track-biased 2-seater thing or (c) a Jaguar F-type if you want a British sporting GT with a V8 in the front. It seems to work better than it has any right to, but it doesn't make it any less of an answer to a question no-one asked...
That V8 noise! Jesus Christ!
A 2,2 ton track focused, striped out Bentley will not be able to compete with the competition. I mean look at the body roll at 3:44 . It might be great on the road but then why not buy the normal one instead? I am sorry its absolutely pointless.
And how the hell did they manage to make it so heavy?
I didn't even know about this monster until someone nearby got one. He has so many gorgeous white on black cars it's no wonder he had to get this exact car. His garage is full with a Ferrari Laferrari, Lamborghini Aventador anniversario, and a 918. This one is kept outside with his maybach s600, ferrari California, Range rover Auto., 911 gt3, RS7, porsche panamera special edition, and Huracan. Some days more or less but goodness he is a lucky man.
Should've kept the rear seats. With that sort of weight it's just a really expensive M5. It looks so wild the instant it breaks traction, the kind of slip that makes you think "this guy is gonna spin for sure" but then it kind of grabs itself and you hold the slide. Strange beast this Bentley is.
Don't really see the problem here since Mercedes has been building sportscars that weigh like 2 tons for ages.
I have never watched a better car reviewer. Man... Mr. Harris, you could keep me entertained for hours.
The green stickers and spoiler look ultra silly on a Bentley. They should really stick to luxury.
Great video. Now we need a RS3 video as well
Are you now sponsored by ASDA
Richard Major
Every little helps.
Richard Major Looks like the interior was too... Asda Smart Price green not so tasty
Richard Major There are Tesco and Waitrose lorries also stored at Brunters in this vid.
It's kind of the same concept as their 1920-1930s race cars - big, heavy and powerful.
I normally hate modern bentleys, but this one is kind of cool.
It's like putting a spoiler on a tractor. Just because it has a massive engine. Sounds like a good idea but is flawed. It's still a tractor.
You can actually see how heavy it is when it drifts or goes around the corners, the sound it makes is thrilling !
Once again I find myself chuckling away with shear pleasure at a CH video. Now where did I put that banana....
Chris are you going to review the Dodge Challenger Hellcat? I know it's fast in a straight line but I want a proper driver's opinion of the overall package. Keep up the great work!
Thank You Chris for every great video..
I was waiting for someone to test the GT3-R. The wait was worth it because Chris reviewed it.
Bacon and banana sandwich ... what more can u expect from a British Nobel brand. Seems the engineers did a great job to give this heavy bulky street ship a diet for sportiveness. The roating v8 fits well to the look ... tks for the vid
Wtf! That super expensive Bentley has the exact same look as my -03 A4 3.0's gear selector thingi.
And how can they make a car so heavy?
As always, great work guys!
I personally love the idea of Bentley making sporty production cars, but if they're going to be taken seriously in the segment they need an entirely new model that's lighter, smaller, and overall made from the ground up as a sports car. Great video as always Chris!
Great comment regarding changing the final drive. Porsche Boxster/Cayman take note!
Hi Chris!
The video is great, as usual. It's really nice to have your videos available for free again!
I'm going crazy trying to identify the song you use in this video(it's the same from the LaFerrari video, I think), could you tell me it's name please?
Thanks a lot, and please keep loving cars!
Loving the whole slow-mo car drifting gracefully around the track from the outside view. Then from the in car view a determined expression, elbows flying and a steering wheel whizzing around like a nutri bullet blender. Chris you make this stuff look easy....I would have put this car into the paddock next door 2nd turn lol.
I know what you mean, accept I had maple sirup with mine too, the gear selector looks old fashion in a bad way, they should update it
Very good description of the experience behind the wheel
Chris you are the best you tuber ever!i love watching your videos!
Perhaps it needs a carbon fibre tub etc. to reduce the weight further (?)
Hi Chris, when are we going to see you test driving the new gt3rs? Keep up the good work
They did a remarkable job on the racing GT3, its about 1300kg making it lighter than the SLS and Cadillac ATS GT3 and about the same as the R8 LMS.
Weights almost as my infiniti FX50s
This isn't a sport car, this is a Cow! WTH?
absolute dream car
Same here im in love with this car
Bacon- check
Bananas- check
Bread- check
My life is complete.
It's layout is the opposite of the racing version, they should keep it the same to keep the handling character. I mean the engine posistion in street version is ahead of front axle= wrong, but in Racing is behind and RWD = Right mass distribution.
Chris should be a presenter on Top Gear :D
I bet you must be feeling real happy about predicting the future right Zoran?
I imagine Colin Chapman turning in his grave...
The road car is a little unwieldy, the actual gt3 version on the other hand is a lightning bolt. It totally works like any other gt3 car
Chris, when the M3 vs C63 S episode?
You guys should upload in 4K
I seriously don't understand the concept of ditching the rear seats. Seats can weigh next to nothing, and comfort isn't a priority in a car like this. Someone please explain this..
Chris Harris,Guy Martin and Tiff needell for the new Top Gear.
ONLYJOKING101 Chris Harris, Jason Plato, Tiff Needell :)
I'd love that without the spoiler, stickers and green bits, but then I might as well just choose the V8S. Except I've got not money.
Love the credits footage! Good work Chris
Loved the ending part... Totally under control!
@chris. You better be on top gear's top 5 list!
2200 kg car should never have a 'GT3' badge. It's ridiculous.
what a pointless car
You re missing the point
Ηρακλης Αβραμακης Bentley is missing the point, not me.
Tadas Its so odd how its had a decent amount of weight reduction but still so damn heavy haha.
it has lightweight components, back seats are removed but still over 2 tonnes. It is still a bigass elephant just lost little fat.
Tadas They tried this shit some time ago with the Supoerspots. I remember Clarkson saying the same thing - that it was a bit pointless...idk why they did this again...i guess ss sold....
P.S ooh....the racing shit...right
How do we support you the most Chris? Are there better ways than just sending money?
Philip Stamps Not running any ad blocking software would help!
Check. Next? I'm trying to dig deep, we all know how amazing this guy is!
Philip Stamps the ad thing for sure, plus you can donate 1$ a month with patron(even more if you want to but I just stayed with the auto option). link in the about of the channel i guess
Philip Stamps I guess he doesn´t need any more support lol, he´s driving a Bentley GT3 R..
bob bobo its not his
The V8 in the Bentley Continental sounds completely amazing. I would buy the V8 over the V12 any day
Ian Townsend yeah because there isn't a V12
Chris Harris makes drifting look so easy. So calm and relaxed as he transitions.
I can't wait to see what Bentley do with the panamera platform
Love the fact this 'lightened Bentley' is still well over 2 tonnes
I just don't understand why this would exist. I appreciate the engineering of it all, but if you want a GT3 car you're obviously going to go for a Porsche, which is cheaper to boot. Why would you take a luxury car and make it something it's not, and that another car will always do better, for cheaper. That's like making a race Rolls Royce. It just doesn't make sense. It can be done, sure (as evidenced by this video), but why do what others already do better?
Please tell me you will be replacing Clarkson ! ? ! ? !
This only makes sense as a collectors item.
If the road car is still this heavy completely stripped down, do they even manage to get the weight down in their actual GT3 car?
Awesome video as always, chris!
Cheddar cheese and strawberry jam on a digestive... So they get to use the GT3 moniker but not Aston?
He is one of the best (video) motor journalists... the way he makes his videos :-) :-)
At least they should've ditched the AWD.
4:07 wow ! ha , just wow ! the way you hit that corner
This car doesn't do anything for me really. It's too much of a compromise. It's neither a luxury car because of the harder suspension and those wheels, but it's not a proper GT3 either with that kerb weight and it still has a fair bit of leather in there that carries weight with it. Something like the bonkers Bowler you drove a few years ago Chris, now that was cool, because it didn't compromise. As a piece of engineering I suppose it's commendable what they've coaxed a two ton plus chassis into doing, but it could have been better still and from an engineering point of view that's unforgivable. Instead of a Bentley GT3R, I'd buy a used Coupe for munching the miles in comfort and something more focused for when I want to go nuts. The price of a GT3R would go a long way towards those two cars.
review a dedicated pro level drift car. for the lolz.
epic as always man
So Chris Harris, what you are telling me is that the GT3R is Mega!
i think we would like to see more bloopers. maybe a whole video with goofy stuff.
It probably still have lots of amenities and insulations, which makes it still weighs around 2 tonnes...
Wonder if they sell a shedded version of this with a lower price.... How much will it weigh? Will it be around the R35?
Thats nice, but where is the GT3RS review.. CANT WAIT!!!!
Well Chris, I hope Mr. Newton isn't angry with you, what with all that force and equal and opposite direction stuff he went on about. That Bentley sliding has to move the earth in some way or another. You need to go back and repeat every lap in the opposite direction or we are doomed
Beautiful as usual Chris
5:05 what a face? Hahahahahahaa!
sounds way better than I thought.
Bentley needs a new model.
Fantastic video :) that Bentley sounded fantastic one of the best sounding V8's on sale :)
Lets not forget that Bentley does indeed have racing credibility tho. The Speed 8 might jog your memory
mr harris did you fly past me on the way to brecon in the Range Rover today? it wasn't hanging around and when i took a sneaky look sideways it sure looked like you...
Might it be better with a faster rack? Lots of arm twiddling on show...
I wonder if Bentley realised the sporty green inserts are the same shade as ASDA
If their supposedly sporty GT3 R(!!!) is 2200 kg, how heavy is their SUV going to be? 5 tonnes?
I love Chris Harris on cars. It was the only reason I would pay for drive...now I have no idea what drive is even up to lol.
Now that no more top gear?
550 horsepower, GT3 road car, 2.2 tons...omg, what were they thinking? over 2 TONS. It has 2 seats...that thing is useless.
Looks quite tasteless to me. Also, I'm pretty sure it doesn't meet the power to weight ratio even for gt4, so why call it that? Call it continental MC as in middleage crisis.
When are you going to do a video on the Ferrari 488?
What is the name of the song? It is the same song used in the Laferrari video.
who dislikes Chris Harris videos?
I was thinking people that bought DRIVE tv subscriptions to see Chris Harris videos looool
DirtMcGirt BBJ No, those people dislike DRIVE TV, I never subscribed and Im glad Chris left DRIVE. chris is worth paying for but the rest of the bloat on that channel can get lost
Russell Tyrone Jones probably those people who love to save the planet driving a tesla or a prius or a leaf
Russell Tyrone Jones I suppose its just people hateing the car, which is perfectly understandable lol.
At the end that face, priceless.
Great review!
