Hey Matthew. What a beautiful thing to wake up to this morning. I always get up have my coffee, check my email of course, and then I see what's happening on RUclips. I always go for the Beatles stuff first, well be just because they're the best there I said it. What was the magic of the Beatles.? Well let me tell you I was 7 years old, and my mother let me stay up and watch the Ed Sullivan show. Ever since I had started school in Fall of 1963 we had been doing this. Me getting my long hair curled, watching Ed Sullivan and then off to bed. Always wondered why I was so tired on Monday mornings? Up to the point where I saw them, I heard my dad's Rock and roll, my Dad loved Little Richard, Fats Domino, you name it Chuck Berry all the greats of that era. And all of a sudden I saw and these four guys. And my mother said I became quite animated, dancing around the room mimicking John Lennon going yeah, yeah, yeah. I fell madly in puppy dog love with him. When the did "I Want To Hold Your Hand"? I had his moves, and I was hooked. I wouldn't stop. My mother couldn't get me to go to bed. None of my classmates had heard of these guys cuz they were all 7 years old too. But my babysitter's sure had, and my teachers sure had. And everybody it seemed had heard of them. But what was it that hit me? BEATLEMANIA. I started getting "Beatle" records for birthday"s, Christmas. Mom and Dad took me to see "A Hard Days Night". That's when I kind of turned into a little Mini-Me version of John Lennon I started playing air guitar, bouncing up and down just like John. Sometimes I would goof around and talk in a British accent, and everybody thought that was cute. To say I had it bad for John was an understatement. I wasn't old enough to have a genuine crush on the man, but something always fascinated ne about him. But I loved all the Beatles, seriously I don't want you to think this is only about John lennon. They were like nothing any of us had ever seen before. Four guys with long hair, singing yeah yeah yeah and just being fresh out of the box like no one's ever done that before. Beatlemania is in the dictionary now it's a word what these guys did was change the world. And I mean forever. And even when John said what he did about being more popular than Jesus, that didn't stop them. Oh they got off the road, but then they made even better music. So what was was the excitement, the music was so different what they brought to the world was unbridled Joy what they brought was shaking up the whole entire music scene, shaking up the way people dressed. Everyone wanted to be British. Liverpool became world famous. They created things in the studio that had never been done before. And they went places musically that nobody's ever gone before. They were so far ahead of their time that I can listen to the "Please Please Me" album and it sounds like it was put out yesterday, no pun intended and it's better than anything Taylor Swift has ever done. Just the song "I Want to Hold Your Hand" is better than everything that Taylor Swift has ever done. Now I have to admit that when John left us it did sort of blow things really out of the water. Because if you think about it the heart and soul of The Beatles was gone. But they were still huge over the top way before that and they'd already been broken up for 10 years. I will NEVER get over December 8, 1980. I went into 40 years of repressed grief. It took COVID to bring me out of it Matthew. I had been unable to listen to any of John Lennon's solo music for 40 years, I'm not even kidding On December 31st 2020, I decided that if we were all going to die anyway, that I should listen to "Imagine" just one more time. Now you going to call me crazy but I felt John's Spirit come to me. I am a very spiritual person and I am psychic and let's just say John is still with me. He is one of my spirit guides now, and I am grateful every day for his presence. So you can call me a nut bar, that's okay I'm used to it. To say I love the Beatles and John Lennon is an understatement. John Lennon is to my knowledge the only Entertainer who has a park to honor him, not to mention an Airport named after him. Statues all over the world of all of them. And all those bands that you mentioned wouldn't even be around without the Beatles. Without a doubt there is nobody that will ever come close to anything that the Beatles did. Case in point "Now and Then." Now I didn't like the redo, I love John's early demo, but for them to come back 53 years after they broke up, two of their members are no longer with us, and they can break the top 10.😮 Matthew they did more for us than anybody. They were ambassadors of peace and love and joy. I don't know why God touched these four men and gave them the ability to do what they did, but if you don't believe in God just listen to the Beatles. Because God had a hand in every single moment that he created those four guys that lived hat close to each other. Came together didn't have a lead singer because all of them had ample voices. Think about it. No one remembers some of the Obscure groups from the 60s that were around at the same time, but everybody knows the Beatles. And you're right there are references every single day I see something that has to do with The Beatles. No they're not going away 200 years from now when we're all gone Matthew they will still be talking about the Magnificent Beatles. Thank you for this it made my morning.
@@Venusandjupiteinunion6434 wow, I’m stunned, there are no words I can follow up with except to say…this one of the most beautiful posts I’ve ever read! So honest, real, and emotional. I love it so much, I have “pinned” it to the top so others will enjoy it! Thank you! 🙏 😊🇬🇧🇺🇸🎼🎶🎵🍻❤️🎸
“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.” ― Kurt Vonnegut
Since we're mentioning SF writers there is a very interesting story out there involving Philip K Dick and a Beatle experience/hallucination. Well worth checking out.
Im 25. Been a Paul and Beatles lover my whole life. They stand head and shoulders above the rest! I love hip hop too, and I love a lot of new music, bit the Beatles were different.
I appreciate that you like a variety of different types of music. Some people have very narrow ideas about what they think “real” music is. If there’s one thing that The Beatles did for me it was that they gave me an appreciation for all kinds of other music because they were influenced by, and involved in, so many genres themselves. I personally listen to all types of music including Rock, Classical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Country, etc. I love music.
Even The Stones said The Beatles were on another planet. My favourite bands are Yes and Genesis, though I'm the first to admit that those bands couldn't exist if The Beatles hadn't done the groundwork first.
A life full of Beatles music is a joyous one❤ Their impact can be compared to the impact of an asteroid on planet earth. They changed the world's musical and cultural matrix. Their influence continues to influence and inspire on a global level.
It seems that every time The Beatles would do something great, they would say to each other “That was great! Let’s not do that again.” then begin something new again.
Awesome video Sir and I agree with everything that you said here The Beatles are the most talented band that has ever existed and nobody will ever come close to how great they are They have songs that everyone could listen to, and they all have beautiful voices, especially John Plus, they also have great personalities and a great sense of humor If I’m feeling sad, The Beatles help me lift up my spirit, and if I’m feeling happy, they make me even happier I will always be thankful to God for The Beatles Without them, this world would be a mess
LOVE is the MOST powerful emotion on earth, and the Beatles preached it in every way they could. THAT'S why they still endure. Peace and love are notions that will always be in "fashion", and they led the love rebellion. Advice to anyone that wants to get even close to their achievements...preach love, preach peace, and show it in your music and the way you live your life. It's a simple formula, and one that the Beatles embraced even when it cost them money, or gigs, or record contracts. STAND for something good, and good things will happen.
The first thing that comes to mind when I hear videos like this about the Beatles is this....... Growing up in the 60s between 64 and 69 I had my little A.M. transistor radio and AM radio back then didn't play album tracks (I'm talking about Los Angeles radio) KHJ.....KFWB......KRLA. The one band that broke that mold was The Beatles. All of a sudden back then you're hearing all these Beatles songs that weren't singles ON A.M. RADIO! It was so damn cool. I remember when KHJ played the complete Sergeant pepper album at midnight the day before it was released. No commercials. At the end of Mr kite all they said was this is KHJ radio flipped it over and started playing within You without You. After about 35-40 minutes I think it was my brother and sister got up, the three of us had our own transistor radio and we were looking at each other and my brother looked at me and said what the hell was that! They played the fade out of a Day in the Life all the way to the end. When my brother said that he said it in a good way. The next day I believe it was June 1st we got in line and bought a copy of Pepper. Those were the days man. My point is the Beatles were the first band that got album tracks played on AM radio in Los Angeles as far as i know. Great video Matt.
Their impact was so great when they arrived in America, and then the three years leading up to Sgt. Pepper and the cultural and musical impact upon the release of that album, and then the rapid change in their music for the remaining two years of their recording career, this contributed to them reaching a cultural and historical immortality that few have reached before or since. The Beatles were a perfect storm of innovation, achievement, and brilliance packed into a 7 year period that paralleled a social and cultural revolution. The relentless release of hits and new sounds and directions their music was taking. They didn't let up for those seven years. The music was so well produced and recorded, so emotionally affecting, that it has become timeless and continues to resonate with new generations over time. I can point to other musical groups like Led Zeppelin, or Rush, who were better musicians as far as the mastery of their instruments and delivering high volume, impactful concert performances, but whose songs will not connect with as many people from all walks of life as the Beatles music has done and will continue to do so far into the future. The Beatles are immortal.
Matt you are absolutely precise in your analysis and comments !!! No other musical act ,be it an artist or group can ever be compared with the Beatles. They are in a CLASS of their own. The only true GENIUSES of popular music !!! What do you get when you put 4 geniuses together ? The BEATLES of course. It's unbelievable that they were only together for less than ten years, but yet have such everlasting influence in the World even up to today. They progressed consistently from "Please ,Please Me" to "Abbey Road". Unlike other artists & Groups, no song of theirs is similar to any other songs of theirs in the way of sound & vocals which is an incredible achievement. Their vocals, music, style, production and class is just incomparable !!! The comments from others below says it all. There's so much more that I can say about them. I am now 74 years and we might not be around for much longer ; But the Beatles will still be heard even in a 100 Years from now !!! That's why they are the GREATEST musical act ever !!!
The Beatles are the Best ...Because The Beatles are The Beatles...The right time, so many first and changes in such a short time. 56 to 70. Things will never be the same, it was just the right time.
Hey Matt. As I'm leaving the gym today and you are talking about Beatles influence is everywhere. A lady walks out of the woman's locker room wearing a Beatles shirt. Right as I'm listening to you. True story!! Thanks the the video!!
I love your energy Mathew! The reason The Beatles have never been touched as artists? Well John, Paul, George, Ringo, George Martin, Geoff Emerick, Ken Townsend, Brian Epstein, Alan Parsons, Norman Smith, Mal Evans & Neil Aspinal come to mind! And there are many more who contributed to the overall thing we lovingly call The Beatles! Taylor who? ❤
I was teaching elementary and middle school last year, and particularly in the middle school I was teaching music, and music history. I saw the same thing, and explained to the kids that although they did not know it, they were influenced by the Beatles. I then pointed out the long hair, and Beatle haircuts that some of them had. I told them if the Beatles never came over they might be wearing crewcuts.
I'm not great at making top ten lists but when it comes to top ten bands there is the Beatles at #1 and then there are the others, and the others don't even come close.
My Dad hated the Beatles (or so he said) when my brother brought their first album home. I only saw my Dad shed a tear one time. We were watching the news when John was murdered and I looked over at him and a teardrop was running down his face. He was very sick with heart disease. Before he died I asked him what his all time favorite song was. He thought about it a minute and said "I guess it would have to be Hey Jude." I was in shock! He was a musician and played with Porter Wagoner, Tex Ritter and even Brenda Lee. I too am a songwriter/musician and learned so much from listening to The Beatles for years. I found out by accident I am a distant cousin of George. I read in a book his Mother's maiden name was French. We traced our family history down and sure enough we are related. I didn't find out until after he died but I got to know his sister Louise pretty well and a couple of other family members. Louise told me I reminded her of her brother. ☮️❤️
@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 I am a little partial too and maybe a bit biased. I guess you have to love them all or the world would have never gotten the joy they brought to us, much less how they changed music, fashion, the way we think etc. I really loved John for opening up his feelings and exposing his deepest thoughts. I'm a songwriter too and write from the heart. Paul is a great story teller and without his being so diligent with his work ethic we might not have had so many great songs by George and John. Ringo tried the best he could but wasn't the best songwriter but the more I listen to his drumming the more I appreciate his talent and contribution. Sorry Pete, no offense. ☮️❤️
The Beatles’ success is not just measured by sales. Watch the documentary film called “How the Beatles Changed the World.” The Beatles influence on popular culture extends into all areas of our lives. Watch that film and maybe you’ll start to appreciate how the Beatles impact was not merely s difference in degree, but was a difference in kind. And that’s why no one has come close to duplicating the profound nature of how they influenced LIFE.
You nailed so many points. It always comes back to the quality of the music itself, which transcends generations and continues to appeal to every new young audience. They accomplished so much innovation and change in a phenomenal short span of years. Their history is also highly interesting, as are their four different personalities. Great video!
I think that's it. They just smashed conventions. The band who produced pop ditties like She Loves You were just a few year later creating stuff like A Day In The Life or Tomorrow Never Knows or Come Together. Wildly different and yet unmistakably The Beatles. It makes no sense and that's what fascinates.
Very well said Matt👍👏👏👏👏👏👏 - NOBODY is in the same building as the Beatles, they are the Greatest of all time!!! - hands down, period, End of discussion.
The end result musically was probably the Beach Boys, mainly Brian Wilson. Paul said Pet Sounds may be the greatest album ever made. But, the Beatles still reign supreme. It was a magical combination of talent, creativity and personality that is a unique as the combination of elements that created life on the planet. I was 13 in 1963 and they turned my world from dull pastels to full color. I made my fruitful life as a musician, a drummer. You have heard me but you don't know me as I was a studio guy mostly but none of it would have been possible without the greatest musical gift and inspiration of my life. Exaggeration? No. Not really. They inspired me to make my life meaningful.
God bless you Matthew and family. The Beatles and our dads and covering some of their songs in my first band are some of the biggest influences in my life. When I was in high school and my dad said that he likes the Beatles especially there earlier stuff. I knew they were something special. Yes I am a blues musician but as I previously said, and you just said they are a part fabric of my life. My best friend in high school playing the material and my dad. God bless you and all you love. P.s. in my second band we played baby you're a rich man in a reggae style. It was fun.
@@matthewstreet1961 and I know I've shared this with you before, and I know many persons have a commented about your dad being on your channel with you, and even though I never met him, I want to say. Thank you! And I hope a little bit of my heart comes through and shows a little bit of what my dad was like. Again many thanks.
The reason why there many never be another band is great, as the Beatles (musically) is because they had in the same group two of the greatest songwriters that were ever born. The addition of George Harrison rising to surpass John and Paul on Abbey Road only furthered the distance for other bands, and artists that followed. In addition, they also had two of the greatest “rock” singers in the same band. And once again, having George and Ringo as lead singers again separates them from many bands. It should be noted that in the 1960’s, John and Paul could have been in separate bands, and that band would have been good. This is in addition, to George although he may have developed later. However, maybe not because in that alternative universe his songwriting talent may have come to fore earlier. I have to say I loved your video presentation.
i THINK IT'S BECAUSE THEY WERE LIKED BY YOUNG & OLD.. MY MOTHER (NOT SO MUCH MY FATHER) ALSO LIKE THE BEATLES. THYE HAD SO MANY GENRES OF HITS THAT ALMOST EVERYIONE FOUND SOMETHING TO RELATE TO. GREATNESS COMES ALONG ONCE IN A LIFETIME & WE ARE FORTUNATE TO LIVE THRU SOMETHING SPECIAL. ITS AMAZING HOW MANY YOUNG PEOPLE ARE INTO THEM TODAY. GREAT POST MATT. TAKE CARE.
Matt, There was one band that came close to Beatlemania and I actually still like them today. The Bay City Rollers! Yes, they had a short career but from 1974-1977 they were there. Cheers Ty in California.
Well as far as groups go ,your right. BUT I think MJ would have to be a contender. He dominated a decade. He sold 100 million albums in the 80s with just 3 records. That's mind blowing .Plus the video explosion of mtv etc.
Hi, I agree with everything you have said, if you have not read it I suggest you get a book called With The Beatles by Patrick Humphreys,. It has a ten page introduction which explains why The Beatles are the greatest and why they will never be surpassed. Shell
Unless I missed it, you didn't mention that the Beatles had more number one hit songs (20) in the US than any other artists and I think that number still holds today. McCartney has another nine number one hit songs for a total of 29. No other artist comes close. Another point to consider is the world population in 1964 was 3,267,000,000, todays population is 8,100,000,000. Record sales is not a reliable comparison unless the difference in population is factored in using percentages.
Hello Matt, Fantastic Video I agree with everything you have said. I remember talking to a friend about 30 years ago about musical taste and he was saying he liked the current bands and I was saying I loved the Beatles and he was saying how old that music was they were not current ect… and I put it this way I like the band that inspired the bands he liked. The band I loved and still love are still around in culture his bands are not. Take care Matt!!
Question For Matthew Can I share the comment I made on my here on my You tube channel? I am trying to do something because I want to share, but it's hard. Thanks
Interesting that you mentioned a whole bunch of acts as being big but falling short of the glory of The Beatles, but somehow forgot about the most important band of the last 30 years: Radiohead.
I would personally say Elvis is the greatest, but I do really respect the Beatles, I’d say there the best band for sure but Elvis has to be number 1 for me
My thought on Elvis is he was one of the greatest entertainers, A strong distinctive voice but not having written his own tunes and also his personality does not impress me. I am not a fan but then again I grew up in the 60's and the Beatles are and will always be on top of my world. Sorry, I needed to say this.
I respect Elvis. However, bear in mind Elvis sang covers. Elvis didn't write one song. The Beatles wrote 188 original songs. Many were huge hits and many were recorded by other artists. "Yesterday" is one of the most recorded songs in history, with over 1,600 covers, and "Here Comes the Sun" has over a billion plays on Spotify. The Beatles were cultural icons, trendsetters. Their fashion sense, the way they wore their hair, their outlook on war, drugs, spirituality impacted a generation. Elvis was great, but.......
This is subjective. The Stones, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, in rock. In soul. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder. Bob Marley in reggae. In pop Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Prince, etc . All made albums has good as any Beatles albums. The Beatles have always had insane PR around their brand.
@@matthewstreet1961 There's no iron clad scientific objective ways to determine aesthetic tastes, in the way you are trying to do so. It's not falsifiabile. Therefore, can't be proven wrong. If someone prefers Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd over the Beatles, their choices are just as valid as yours.
Maybe because they were a 'cross-generational' band (& still are!) & the first band to kick the music industry door down for every one else to follow, they will always be remembered. When Paul is no longer here, The Beatles' biggest fan, & the boomers gradually fade - we may see a different music world!
it's a different time of music when it comes to the charts so i could care less if a new band today has 46 number one songs, they're still not even going to come close to the beatles music
@@matthewstreet1961 also in response to MJ I work in a record store and I know what sells. I’m sure you’re not a fan of what sells but people are always trading in the Beatles because they think they have a rare copy and they always need the money.
@@davidkornblatt851 that’s great. I’m happy he sells. In my opinion he can sell all he can, he’ll never be as significant as the Beatles culturally and societal-wise. Just my humble opinion. 🇬🇧
Matt I agree with you. But you have to remember the music industry pushes certain artists male or female? To make money. Rap? I consider them in a different category.
To me sales of albums doesn’t determine who is the actual best band ever. Put the Beatles on a live stage with The WHO and the Beatles would get blown off the stage. The WHO was the most talented band ever and when it counts LIVE on stage, not hiding in a studio! You separate the men from the boys live. Untouchable!!!
The Who are great, but then you can say the same about Jimi Hendrix or Led Zeppelin all technically better, - which reminds me of Quincy Jones saying they (The Beatles) were the worst musicians Ever!!! -and the funny thing is they made some of the greatest music.
Matt, I have to tell you about Garth Brooks. He tried so hard to sell more records than Elvis and The Beatles, man did he try. He managed to get past Elvis, which I was not happy about!! But he could not ever get past The Beatles in record sales!! Too bad Garth, you could not do it!!
@@frank8838 yeah he did come pretty close! Even if he did surpass the Beatles in total sales, would it matter? I say no. Garth will never have the influence on culture, society, and generations the way The Beatles have. Ain’t gonna happen Garth!!! 🎸🎵🍻🇬🇧🎶🎼
@@matthewstreet1961 Garth does not belong with the giants Elvis and The Beatles. The thing is Matt, Brooks was so obsessed with being the all time best selling artist, he used every trick in the book even fraudulently using every way possible to outsell everyone. Garth Brooks is a fraud!!!!
@@matthewstreet1961 The way they tabulate record sales is totally different now anyway. Anyone can stream and download music now. It doesn’t require any effort on their part. When I was a kid you had to go out and physically purchase the music you wanted, which means that you really had to want it badly. For some people, they had to make that an all day affair, planning what eating establishments were nearby the record store, what movies were playing nearby, etc. Purchasing music meant a lot more when I was growing up. I remember walking about 2 or 3 miles (each way) to buy an album because of one song I heard on the radio (Roberta Flack’s version of “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”). This was about a year before it became a national hit and I just had to have it. The only record store that I knew of that had it was quite a distance away from me, inaccessible by bus or subway (I don’t drive), so I walked all the way there and back. If a lot of younger fans had to do that now, I wonder how popular some of these major artists would actually be now?
Greatest musical artists of ALL TIME??? C'mon, you might not have heard of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms ... Greatest Pop/Rockartists ... that's true
The Beatles were great, I judge the greatest bands by the following, in no order, 1 songs/albums 2 longevity 3 actual talent 4 live performances. The Beatles have great songs and albums, no longevity (together what 8 years) , talent was descent at best, in their live performances you could here the girls screaming over their music,( no power)the rooftop thing was way overrated. The Who have the songs/albums , played on and off for 60 years, talent wise, #1 bassist of all time, # 3 drummer of all time, top 5 lead singer of all time, and the greatest songwriter and performer of all time on guitar. And I could name several live performances that put The WHO head and shoulders above anyone to ever walk onto a stage. Zeppelin was great, no longevity and live performances left a lot to be desired. Jimi was missing on longevity, a shame he wasn’t here longer, this is my opinion, I just happen to be right. The Beatles are the most POPULAR band ever, not greatest. They made some great music with descent talent, weren’t together as a band long and have ZERO live performances worth speaking of. Just saying.
@@peggypieters661 that’s fine, “to each their own”. However, most of the rest of the planet understand and enjoy their unique magic. I’m sorry you don’t. Cheers 🍻
There were many great and influential bands during the British invasion. The Beatles were not the best. They started out as a clean-cut pop band. They were brought down by Yoko Ono. John Lennon was his own worst enemy. Paul could write songs people like, but ask a kid to name songs by any of their songs, and you will possibly get 1 or 2 answers. The Beatles were a popular band, but not the best.
@matthewstreet1961 Personally, I have been a Kinks fan for over 40 years. Ray and Dave Davies deserve far more respect than they are given. You Really Got Me changed music for the better. Before that, everyone was just strumming along.
@@haroldingebretsen2135 I was seriously thinking about it. But I need more time to look into it. Why? Because I watched the review videos by Stephen Schnee and Ed from the Kings Court, and they did not seem too keen on it.🎼🍻🎵🎶❤️🇺🇸🎸
Sorry but I’m just not a fan. McCartneys barfy pop rubbish was awful (to this day), Lennon? Pretty ho hum, Harrison and Ringo pedestrian at best. They were popular because they were the first to exploit the new wave of music. By 1967 they were out the back door. Clapton, Hendrix, the Stones etc were all pushing the envelope leaving the Beatles floundering and trying to be relevant.
A lot of artists that are making music today (ie. Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift) I feel like they’re doing it just for the fans. Taylor Swift especially. Because she was once the talk of the town amongst people who I knew like 2 years ago or so. Not many people I know now are actually swifties. In fact, I’m almost 15 and many people I’m meeting for the first time now are actually big Beatles fans. But anyway what I was saying about Taylor Swift is that she has changed her music genres slightly throughout the years for the fans. First she was a country artist, and then she wants to be indie rock, and on and on. And she relies on other people to help her out and do all of the backing tracks who don’t really get the credit for it. But from what I see, she changes her style just to impress the fans. The Beatles on the other hand relied on each other. They didn’t change their music just to impress the fans, they did that because they simply felt like trying something new for themselves. Their intention was not just to impress the fans, their intention was really just doing what they felt like doing. And they thought of the song ideas themselves. They didn’t call up someone else to record the backing tracks for them. They recorded it all themselves. That’s why the Beatles are bigger than Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter or whoever. Because they did what they wanted, not what the fans wanted.
Beautiful, insightful, and well thought out post Jack! You have impressed me with this. I am thankful you stopped by and welcome! 🙏 Cheers, Matt 🇬🇧🍻🎼🎶🎵🎸🇺🇸
Well, they definitely tried to cater to young female fans when they first became popular. After the record company realized that they had become a hit making machine they were afforded more leeway to experiment musically. This not only helped them creatively, but lifted all ships in the music world. Artists began to be given more freedom to create too. It was a great time for music in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, in particular.
One more thing I should say is that a lot of Taylor’s songs are too similar that some are easy to confuse with each other. The Beatles songs are so distinct. Nobody says “this song reminds me of this song” with the Beatles because each song by them has such a distinct sound to it.
I have to agree with you Matt on all you have said. Not only did they achieve so much in such a short space of time, but they were the benchmark by which all other artists would be measured, and the standards they set would be what all artists after them would try to attain. But there will never be another Beatles. Times have changed and moved on. Consumption of music is no longer the same as it was in the 60's. They had the talent, the material and most importantly they had the personalities that people could relate to. You only had to say their first names and you knew exactly who they were. A good friend of mine, who sadly passed some years ago once said of The Beatles that they were the Shakespeare's of pop. And I now, really see what he meant. Like the Bard of Avon, whose words became phrases used in everyday life, so the same has happened with The Beatles lyrics, such has Here, There and Everywhere, and as you pointed out All You Need Is Love. They are a part of the fabric of everyday life, and with that combined with their music is why they have been assured a cultural immortality. Who else but The Beatles could have a fan base that holds festivals and conventions celebrating their work 60 years on since they came into our lives and 50 years since they broke up? I doubt that 60 years from now any current artist will be still being spoken of in such terms. They are the greatest Band of all time and always will be. Let me put it this way, every minute of every day somewhere across this planet a Beatles song is being played on the radio somewhere, and not only that they are also the artist/band with the single most amount of cover versions of their material and that is a record that is theirs for keeps....
Wow !!! Terrymann you summed it up so nicely !!! Ya, they are a part of the fabric of everyday life as Matt said it. They are the Greatest band of all time and always will be !!! Thank you.
Some artists may have sold more records, but The Beatles are the most influental band when it comes to impact on pop culture and popular music. More than 50 years on they are still unrivaled when it comes to composing and recording groundbreaking, inventive, catchy and enduring pop music.
@@iqbalhussain9526 And always will be because they continue to capture the imagination of succeeding generations. Everything about them is iconic. Over 50 years since they ceased being a band they are still the template, they are still the measure that artists aspire to.
The Beatles changed everything. They're the reason why people like me (approaching old age) can still wear jeans and listen to rock music and not look absurd. Thanks boys.
Great video Matt The composer Howard Goodall in his documentary states The Beatles had the biggest impact on music since Mozart They are a cultural phenomenon On my local radio station here in Australia when they do the traffic reports they use from Drive my Car the beep beep yeah. I doubt so many people especially the young see the daily references like you say i saw Paul Mccartney live in sydney in 2023 . i took my 12 year old daughter she loved it i said to her in 50 years time youll be able to say you saw a Beatle live and Paul McCartney the greatest musician

Absolutely. As you mentioned, every music artist (some great, some not so great) are compared to the Beatles. This is because the Beatles are the best. You mentioned their consistency, and that is so true.
You are spot on with this one, Matt! The Beatles have touched virtually every aspect of my life - musically, socially and politicly, religious beliefs, fashion, artistically - I could go on and on. They will still be influencing the masses in all of these areas in 100, 500, 1000 years from now. They are the perfect combination of Picasso, Mozart, JFK, Chanel, and Jesus. I have not spent one single day of my life since I became a diehard fan over 50 years ago that they have not been a part of it in some way. No single artist or group will ever have this kind of impact. Perhaps the greatest thing of all about The Beatles is that they made me THINK. Another level, indeed!
I've been a musician for 55 years. I've played in small bands, and at big festivals. I had to retire from playing live due to a nerve issue in my neck, but I still play and record in my home studio. Last week I heard Eleanor Rigby come on while driving in my car. I got home and worked out a rendition for acoustic guitar, which is the way Paul intended it to be recorded. No other band has ever had that kind of effect on me. 60 years after buying my first album, "Sgt Peppers". I'm still as big a fan, and just as much in awe of their work. How Paul can say so much in 2 minutes and 20 seconds about the human condition is not just artistry, it's a rare genius, and when you put him together with 3 other rare genius's, the magic that was the Beatles created something that will endure for generations.
Nice perspective on The Beatles and there longevity Matthew! Two words Taylor Swift and her Swifties if she continues a couple more years she will pass The Beatles !!!! Like how you named all these names you probably know nothing about same with me Now Katie Perry is all washed up only 39 years old can't even break top 100 on billboard People are tired of her already Maybe Taylor Swift will end up that way when she gets older nearing 35 now when she losses her looks her sales will dip! Great information Matthew! Probably without The Beatles there might not be much of a music industry
Good points John! Taylor can break every record in the book, I don’t care, she will never surpass the Beatles in cultural and society influence! She will go the way of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Gibson, and others eventually.🇬🇧🍻🎼🎵🎶❤️
I’ve heard people saying that the Beatles don’t have influence in today’s music anymore…. They don’t realize that the Beatles influece goes beyond the music itself.
“Imagine” all the people that lived and died and never heard the Beatles. We are lucky and fortunate to be alive at the same time as the Beatles and to have heard this majestic music!
My dad used to be a captive audience when I commandeered his old stereo to listen to my Beatles records while he was working in his shop. He once commented that the Beatles’ records were so consistently good and their songs never became repetitive. He loved ballads, and I remember he especially liked John Lennon’s song “Nobody Loves You When You’re Down and Out,” and the guitar songs on the White Album, like “Julia” and “I Will.” The Beatles had songs that could appeal to all ages.
I’m a second generation Beatles fan. I was only introduced to them in 1980. I played the “Red” album everyday for nearly 6 months. Dec 9th changed everything. I didn’t even know their names until then. And I never felt such a profound loss and still do. The Beatles helped me live. Helped me love. Helped in my darkest hours. No other band or artist has ever had that effect on me. I am sure there are millions of people who have felt the same way. Even my daughter respects the Beatles. Heck, we still play Rockband on Father’s Day. Everyday, a Beatles song is playing in my head. I’m 55 now. No other artist has lived with me for so long. As I write this, in am wearing a Beatles shirt. And when I pass to the other side, I want Across the Universe to be the last song I hear so it will stay with me for eternity.
I have no problem with this video Matt! I think people get all up in arms if you don’t agree with everything they like! lol I love Elvis, probably the most iconic name in the industry, I love KISS probably the most famous band logo in music. The Beatles are The Beatles. People have and will always look up to them for influence for what they’ve accomplished. 🤙🏻 Great job my friend.
As Derek Taylor (The Beatles' press officer} said in the liner notes of the Beatles Anthology record series, "the Beatles were the greatest romance of the 20th century." That about sums it up.
Grow up Matthew and broaden your musical horizons. Guess what, music wasn't invented in the sixties by the Beatles. I have to LMAO when people use the phase "of all time". Their definition of " all time" doesn't apply to anything before 1963.
Oh come on. Greatest musical artists of all time? What about Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Bartok, Purcell, etc. Can't compare the Beatles with these, as great as they are. They're one of the greatest in the popular music genre.
They will be remembered the same. People still play music by those great artists that you mentioned, and to a certain extent the tribute bands do the same thing. So people are already interpreting and playing The Beatles music by creating tribute bands. All the great orchestras do is the same thing, they don't pretend to be those great artists, but they interpret their music, and they play it because people still want to hear it. And Beethoven and Mozart aren't here to play it, so the great musicians of the day that we have now are still playing their music. The Beatles will be the same they already kind of are, although I really don't like tribute bands
Matthew: I don't believe anyone thought they were going to be the Beatles. Since Bach and myself ( put myself in the same sentence as Bach...lol) believe music is math, I feel it's actually a math equation. The Beatles were the best combination of musical elements and presentation. Background Music + words ,harmonies plus impeccable timing ( thanks, Ringo) stellar production + innovation without ever seeming to reach or not be the Beatles...And, they looked like they should have....Ask Elvis's team how important that is. ...Just my take...Peace and Love, Terry and Julia Tutor
At the end of the day, and John & George themselves would have told you this, the objective that the four of them had was to sell a few records, challenge themselves in writing and recording, and have some FUN. They definitely achieved it, but at an uncomfortable cost. Paul emerged relatively unscathed, but for John, George and for a time Ringo, fame played with them mentally. John tried to put his energies into Yoko and an emerging family, but couldn’t stop seven bullets on that awful night by a nut. George threw himself into Eastern religion while he did music, but his mental state and nerves affected him the rest of his life, leading to the smoking which would kill him. We got quite the musical gift with the Fab Four, but we lost two very important parts of the puzzle. All because how the world treated them in the end.
I admire and Love Hendrix, Dylan, Zappa, and even Elvis are all great and important artists 👍 But as a Band -The Beatles are without a doubt The Greatest, I cant think of a better band.
I had been unable to listen to any of John Lennon's solo music for 40 years, I'm not even kidding
On December 31st 2020, I decided that if we were all going to die anyway, that I should listen to "Imagine" just one more time.
Case in point "Now and Then." Now I didn't like the redo, I love John's early demo, but for them to come back 53 years after they broke up, two of their members are no longer with us, and they can break the top 10.😮
Matthew they did more for us than anybody.

I appreciate that you like a variety of different types of music. Some people have very narrow ideas about what they think “real” music is. I personally listen to all types of music including Rock, Classical, Jazz, Hip Hop, Country, etc. I love music.

Great post Edward! 🇬🇧🎼🎶🎵🍻

I love both…but The Beatles are my #1 🥇
I respect Elvis.
Beatles are still #1. End of story.
Sure anyone can like who they want. I like The Beatles.
One word to describe The Beatles consistency - in a span of just 8 years.
Maybe because they were a 'cross-generational' band (& still are!) & the first band to kick the music industry door down for every one else to follow, they will always be remembered. When Paul is no longer here, The Beatles' biggest fan, & the boomers gradually fade - we may see a different music world!

And not to mention the Beatles did all that in 8 years! How long has Taylor Swift been doing it?

I agree.
One more thing I should say is that a lot of Taylor’s songs are too similar that some are easy to confuse with each other. The Beatles songs are so distinct. Nobody says “this song reminds me of this song” with the Beatles because each song by them has such a distinct sound to it.
Who is Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter ???? I haven't heard any of their songs !!! You cannot compare them with the Beatles !!!
Beautifully said Terry! 🎵🎸🍻🎼🎶❤️🇬🇧
