That's not true Ross, F1 used 3.0L V10 engines from 1995 to 2005, though some teams used V12 engines until 1997, but there where no V8s. Also, the sound is a big evidence, V8s never had that high pitch sound, even when revving higher
The 1999 season used v8 engines...... V10s were 2002-2005
