    Zilla, thank you for another excellent unboxing video. Very informative and of course chock full of compliments which who doesn't love to hear regarding a game they published. Especially since I worked extensively on the rules, not only formatting but working with the developer Claude Whalen to make them as clear and concise as possible. I also created all of the player aids so kind of back to the roots of Legion Wargames when I did 90% of the artwork. As for the Commander counters, the clipped off heads is a graphic design choice from Mark Mahaffey and since I know that it's intentional they never look odd to me. This is the 18th published game by designer John Poniske (and our 2nd with him) and he always has an interesting take on the conflicts he covers. I'm not sure if this is the start of a series but if it were the double-wide counters and large hexes would limit those games to the smaller engagements of the ACW. Of which I'm sure there are many, many, ungamed.
    Thanks again.

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Randy, and thank you for the kind words as well. And thanks for clarifying the Commander counters. I suspected that it was intentional, and having punched and clipped them today, I can attest that they look great.
      I just returned home late last night from a short trip and have started up a learning game this evening. Looking forward to playing and seeing how the double-wide counters work in action! I'm thinking to next do a gameplay demo as I get comfortable with the game. :)

    Finally a Civil War looksie. Really looks like a nice game thanks for showing this and looking fwd to you playing it on the channel. I did note that the General square counters seem to have the top of their heads cut off, this seems weird and maybe a quality issue?

    • @ZillaBlitz
      @ZillaBlitz  2 года назад +1

      I am very excited to dig into my first Civil War game since Gettysburg, from Avalon Hill. :) For a second I wondered about the general counters as well, but they are perfectly centered, so I think that's an intentional design choice and the overage is simply printing bleed. I'll take a look at them after I get back home in a couple of days and can punch and clip everything. I think they'll look fine when punched. :)

  • @johnnymustang760

    Looks like the leaders got the tops of their heads die cut off, but then the setup chart looks that way too.

    • @ZillaBlitz
      @ZillaBlitz  2 года назад

      When I first saw that I wondered about it, but they are centered perfectly. I think the overrun is just printing bleed. I've got to punch them out still (traveling for a couple of days so can't jump right in an play the game until Monday), but I suspect they'll look fine when punched. :)

    I have not really played any ACW games. I got US Civil War (GMT) but have been finding it a slog to learn. A Most Fearful Sacrifice looks excellent. This one looks interesting. It's not my biggest interest as a topic, but I would like to cover that gap historically with a few games.

    • @ZillaBlitz
      @ZillaBlitz  2 года назад +1

      Yes, that's been my goal as well, to get some games that cover the Civil War, both tactically and strategically. I did get A Most Fearful Sacrifice as well, and am looking forward to playing that too. :)

      A full game is listed at 5-6 hours, so I won't do a full playthrough, but I do want to post some sort of gameplay demo. I've somehow taken 7 Days to Rest from playing games and making videos, but am digging back in today. I want to finish my current game first, still sorting through some of the rules and getting the gameplay a bit smoother. :)

    Just curious, how durable is the paper map in terms of paper weight?

    • @ZillaBlitz
      @ZillaBlitz  2 года назад +1

      I'm not too versed in specific paper weights, but this feels much like a standard, good-quality paper map. It's thick enough that I'm not worried about accidentally ripping it. Having said that, if I weren't recording while playing, I'd be inclined to put a piece of plexiglass on top.

      @@ZillaBlitz thank you. I had been on the fence about this game, given that Revolution Games has their own South Mountain game coming out later this year, but your video and the close ups of the Rick Barber inspired map out me in the sold category. Did you happen to notice that there is an entire Confederate Division included in the game that wasn't even in the battle? On September 14, 1862 Anderson's Division was engaged in operations against Harper's Ferry. One of Anderson's brigades, Mahone, and two of McLaws - Semmes and Cobb, were posted at Crampton's Gap and engaged with Franklin's Sixth Corps.

      It really is, and the rules look to incorporate those height advantages into the game nicely. Key advantage for the Confederate forces to take advantage of. :)
