    In 1976 I was talking with my neighbor about enlisting in the Air Force. He was an Air Force pilot, and encouraged me to check into aircraft maintenance. As a result of that conversation I have worked as an aircraft mechanic for over four decades.
    It was a 10 minute talk and enormously influenced my life.

      Good reminder Canoe. You never know when 5 or 10 minutes of conversation will influence a young person's life in a profound way. Something similar happened to me as a kid. Always keep it positive and helpful. Your words may change someone's life.👍👍

    I have been retired since 2019 but was a tower/approach controller in the US for 33 years. Loved doing things like this! Good job, guys!

      @@davidsmith5775 This sort of relaxed while efficient interaction is the norm in Ireland. Pilots and controllers are mostly on Christian name terms.
      The funniest one I can remember to an inbound flight was, "Your wife asked me to remind you not to forget to pick some milk up on the way home".
      Perhaps the controller had his arm twisted on that one, the wife was the airport duty manager.
      Despite all this, Irish airports have one of the best safety records in the world. A little friendship goes a ling way.
      I have yet to hear. "can someone get that cow off the runway". LOL
      Perhaps the funniest part is that the Irish pilots have started to introduce some of their methods at Heathrow.

    Too cool.
    Great to see interactive stuff like this going on, great to see the controller following up on their visit, and great to see all of the following pilots catching on and keeping the shout-outs going.

    Toronto airport, worst airport in the world. You never know what level you're on, no security to baggage claims area, Air France Flight 358 skids off runway into 50' ravine because runway doesn't meet intl standards. Good luck, you'll need it.

    • @Steve-ov5ri
      @Steve-ov5ri 4 месяца назад +3

      It skidded into Etobicoke creek because it landed in a thunder cell and took too long to employ thrust reversers. Might want to stick to your lane...whatever that is, because it's not aviation.
      From the TSB report "During the flare, the aircraft travelled through an area of heavy rain, and visual contact with the runway environment was significantly reduced. There were numerous lightning strikes occurring, particularly at the far end of the runway. The aircraft touched down about 3800 feet down the runway, reverse thrust was selected about 12.8 seconds after landing, and full reverse was selected 16.4 seconds after touchdown. The aircraft was not able to stop on the 9000-foot runway and departed the far end at a groundspeed of about 80 knots."
      Hope you are enjoying your day more than you were when you wrote this crap.
