    Man, this was really cool. I'll tell you why. Oiran was their first single, and they formed right when the pandemic hit in 2019. The reason they released so many covers live in studio was because they couldn't play live. On the first video, you see them in their initial attitude, still not sure what was going to happen, and still not tight or polished, but obviously all talented and together. Then, the second, finally paying live in front of an audience 2+ years after they formed, and you can see the excitement in them to play live, and they are really playing together. Then, in the third, finally 100% confident, having the time of their lives almost 5 years after that initial track.
    It really is a shame that we will probably never see all 5 of them together ever again, but being able to see the very beginning and the end through the lens of one song is special.

    As a rabid Nemophila fan I'm always happy for an excuse to watch all three of these videos. Also as a rabid fan maybe I should get a painful series of shots, but I think since I'm already showing symptoms it may be too late! Thanks for sharing the fun! Definitely check out their covers. My favorites are their covers of Maximum the Hormone, but if you don't know that band maybe you should do another series where you do the original and then the cover version by Nemophila! They've done "Shimi" and "Zetsubo Billy".

I definitely recommend it to lovers of female/Japanese rock. Guitarist Mina is a legend of this scene. Junna will support them on drums.

    The covers are VERY good. They are pro musicians that really love classic rock.
    They are doing those covers for their own amusement and also recorded them.
    They are not a cover band and do not normally play all that much covers for live audience.
    It happens though.

      No one “carries” the band. That statement disregards the rest of the band. Mayu is an amazing vocalist but EVERY member is a part of the formula.

      As for covers fans, rightly so love the covers of Japanese bands. Especially the 2 Maximum the Hormone songs Shimi and Zetsubou Billy as well as the X-Japan classic Kurenai. Their 1st video upload to RUclips was actually a cover of Iron Maiden’s The Trooper.

    • @bandmaidfanATL
      @bandmaidfanATL Месяц назад +3

      @@k3w1b3an5 Sorry, I agree with @tackle47. I think Mayu is the greatest rock vocalist since Steven Tyler, but Nemophila is much more than a singer with a support band. Tamu, Saki (RIP), and Hazuki are probably 3 of the top 10 guitarists, male and female, out of Japan in the last 15 years, and Haraguchi-san is no slouch and is a great songwriter. If Mayu could "carry" a band, why did she ask the best of the best to play with? I actually see your comment as discounting her intentions of forming a truly superior group.

    • @tackle47
      @tackle47 Месяц назад +1

      @@bandmaidfanATL agree with all your points. Hell I love Mayu but she did not pick up Lipstick and carry them to the top. Hell she was great with them but a great band is just that a BAND. I am a long time Saki simp but I am more worried about where she heads than Nemo. I just never really liked the great musicians and their backing band. Reminds me too much of Rainbow.

    Nemophila has so many incredible original songs (around 37). They also have a similar amount of covers (I’ve never counted). Most of the covers were performed in their personal residences during the COVID lockdowns through editing magic. You will get many suggestions for covers from legendary Rock/Metal bands. I personally suggest their cover of X-Japan’s song Kurenai. If you are unfamiliar with X-Japan they are from the 80’s-90’s and legendary in Japan. Even the producer behind Babymetal, Kobametal is a huge fan. If you don’t know the drummer, you might recognize names like Queen and U2 that Yoshiki has worked with. There is a whole story about Nemophila’s drummer Tamu auditioning for a project band by Yoshiiki. EDIT: the information I previously posted on this audition was most likely false. I apologize for that. ❤️🌸

      Hello Michael. Nemophila's Kurenai is the best cover of this song I've ever heard, and there are many of them. It's a cult song, maybe No. 1 of Japanese rock. Back to Tamu and Yoshiki. Nemo also have a second cover of X Japan, Rusty Nail (live from stream). Tamu did an amazing thing in this piece. She corrected Yoshiki's drum part. From 2:40 there is a quiet moment. Just piano, background bass and vocals. Tamu added delicate percussion cymbals. From the first listens I noticed these drum cymbals and I really liked it. It was only later that I noticed that Yoshiki was not playing at that moment. Apparently, during this audition, Yoshiki praised Tamu for properly using drum cymbals (not about Rasty Nail, the audition was before Nemo). Yoshiki's project was not implemented. I heard somewhere that Hazuki was also supposed to help with it (recruiting female guitarists?). Tamu is an amazing drummer, personality. I would be interested in the source for the statement that Tamu turned down an offer to join Yoshiki's all-female project band Lady's X. Tamu underwent Ladys X auditions for Yoshiki at least twice, which included playing his song "Kurenai". There were several other musicians who also auditioned more than once, and I'm not aware of any of them being offered membership in Ladys X, which is to say, there was nothing for Tamu to turn down.
      Btw, Sakura Yoshida of Hagane was one of the other auditionees. She played three times for Yoshiki, covering "Rusty Nail" and JP's "Painkiller", and when Yoshiki asked for an original song, playing "Wintry Sky". Others among the auditionees were Wakazaemon, currently of East of Eden, and Fin, who was a bandmate of Saki in Re:Maker and of Narumi and Hazuki in former Aldious vocalist Rami's backing unit. Also Natsume, later of Raise A Suilen, auditioned.
      Subsequently, a different group of musicians were called for auditions, including Sakura's soon-to-be Hagane bandmate Mayto, and RisaRisa, who was in Disqualia with Hazuki and Narumi and also in Rami's backing band. Many auditions 2016-18, for nothing ultimately.
