This video didn’t suck! I also work full time 7:15-4pm every weekday and it gets annoying to see some creators talk about how they “read 6 this week!” I know they aren’t bragging but I enjoy seeing a person who has another job & reads. One book a week is still way more than the average person! You are great!
Your videos are fantastic, and nowhere near mediocre! I cannot imagine working my 40 hour work week AND filming AND reading AND editing like you do! Don't overwork yourself, you're doing great!
I don't think anyone minds you reading only one book or seeing you travel. None of your videos suck at all. You're real and we all love you for it cause none of us on the other side are sitting around only reading. You feel human. I don't miss a single video that you and your wife post. You guys are the only ones I stop everything for to watch. Please don't stop doing what you're doing. Just be you, that's all we ask. It's what makes you unique.
I'm an English Prof and I read for work (obviously) all the time. As much as I enjoy my job and reading with my students, I need to read for pleasure as well, at my own pace. Even if it's only 15 - 20 minutes per night, I am still reading what I want to. It takes forever to get through a book this way, but it's so enjoyable when it's something I've chosen for myself. I love how you grab moments of waiting around to read. We all waste so much time on our phones these days.
I loved this video because it was reality. It is what reading is like for someone that works full time and listens to an audiobook at normal speed. A lot of booktubers listen to audiobooks at 2x or higher the normal speed so they can get through more books each week and for the month. Thank you for being honest and showing that reading 1 book a week or 1 book every two weeks is normal.
I never comment on RUclips videos however to see you so disheartened at what I believe was a fantastic video sparked my need to do so. I love your videos, especially these 9-5 style ones, to see such a hardworking person make time for reading definitely motivates me to pick up my neglected book. You and you’re videos are fantastic, keep doing what you’re doing, sending love from the UK
I’m glad to see another person with a 9-5 only read one book. Sometimes I feel like I’m just slow but I should not give myself a hard time. (Teacher schedule 👈🏽)
When it comes to a job I always tell anyone rather you like your job or not it helps provide a roof over your head as well as your family and supports what you want to do in life. Hope your doing well and much love. Happy reading!
Seems simple enough, but in reality it's not that easy. If you do not like your job, and resent going every day, eventually you will burn out. And that's not worth it. Don't ever just quit your job without other options. But if you really hate your job, look for something else. For everyone's sake.
Normally a silent watcher but I have been really enjoying your videos and especially the recent slice of life snippets. Realistic and relatable for all of us folks that have busy jobs. Honestly well impressed, I also travel a lot for work and on those days I am way too knackered in the evenings to read even a single page (and that‘s UK distances nothing like Utah miles), let alone work a whole other job like you do with RUclips. You‘re doing amazing, nothing mediocre about this!! On another note - so interesting to hear about Crime and Punishment, I read this years ago in Russian class and remember being it so hectic, like what is going on with this dude haha?? Keep at it, always looking forward to your vlogs - and super excited to see you read Slaughterhouse Five, it‘s a family favourite here.
You are too rough on yourself. This video was not bad at all. And all your videos are fantastic. You have a genuine delivery and your videos are fun to watch. Keep being you and doing what you do. Thank you for bringing a smile to my face when watching your content.
Great video! For my 40 hour week, I am a forklift driver in a library (warehouse, high density. Odd ik) so I spend all day listening to books. HOT TAKE; not as fun as you would think. I miss physical reading sometimes. I have to build in time for physical reading at the end of the time or reading loses some of its spark for me. I get through 3-4 books per week if I want (listening) but it can become a blur... When I build in physical reading, I can get maybe a 100-200 pages in per week. Just wanted to say that to balance all the pro audiobook argument ❤
My husband is a fan of Russian literature. He has yet to tackle Crime and Punishment, but he did read The Brothers Karamazov. I think the Russian book he most enjoyed so far is "The Master and Magarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov.
I read Crime and Punishment a few years ago. I'd already read The Idiot, so the histrionics of the main character didn't phase me that much. The way he convinced himself that doing something so heinous was OK because he's going to be a great man is a theme everyone should study. Loved the ending, as well. Currently reading War and Peace. About halfway through. The Russian novels I have read typically go from being fascinating to WHY ARE YOU BEHAVING THIS WAY a lot. Enjoyed the bits about your job a lot, too. Thanks for sharing.
Having a full-time job as well as putting out videos as regularly as you do is impressive. I enjoy being a i.r.a. on this channel, and any books read for the week are good! Also, with driving as part of my job, i took advantage of all the audiobooks. Thanks for the video!
Not a bad video! Nice to see the day to day and also to know that a RUclipsr also struggles with the corporate grind vs “I want to just sit and read today”. The struggle is read for all of us!
It's a good job reading is a restful hobby because youtube is definitely a full time job if you want to be good and stay consistent! Hat's off to you, also really enjoy your videos to see what you guys are doing and reading so don't be too hard on your videos you're doing great and well done for still sharing them. It take a lot to share something that we are critical about so kudos 🙂👍
The scream that I scrumpt when you picked up Slaughterhouse-Five!! One of my all time favorites 😍 Also thank you for showing the reality of fitting a reading hobby into a normal life. I'm a stay-at-home mom so my work hours are basically dawn to dusk (plus I'm on call 24/7 😂), and I also read about a book a week, sometimes two. You're awesome, keep doing what you're doing and we will keep watching!
Yeah brother in case you ever have doubt about people liking your content or channel…. DONT! We love it and you are doing great work. Thank you for putting out videos and your joy for books and opinions about them!
I loved when you made your first “while working a 9-5” video. I work a third shift, 50-60 hr work week, while trying to keep a reading life. I understand. Audiobooks are the way to go for me. Libby, Everand, Audible. Great video. It’s realistic and relatable, not disappointing!
This video definitely didn't suck! As some from a flat state, I loved seeing snippets of Utah! Also for a book rec, I'd love to see you read Piranesi. I know Ashlynn didn't love it but its one of my favorite books and im curious on your opinion!
I actually liked this vlog because it was relatable. You’ve got your “normal job” like most of your subscribers and you show how you read in that day to day normalcy. It was nice 😊
I love seeing how someone like you, who reads so much and seems like a superhero to me, is a regular person and has weeks similar to mine sometimes. Honestly, it makes me feel better about myself to see that even someone like you can struggle with finding the time or disposition to finish books.
Ian if you’re interested in reading Steinbeck then I highly suggest Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men, also The Great Gatsby but that us based a little earlier in the 20s if you have not read these.
Your videos are so easy and comforting to watch! Not mediocre by any means. It's refreshing to see content that shows that real life sometimes does get in the way. Yours are my go to videos to crochet along to because they are always just happy, positive and calming. 😊
This was such a cool idea for a video! I enjoyed it. We all get busy from time to time, but doing a little of what you love is better than never trying. Also not stressing about if it was good enough or not. Some videos should be posted because you came up with the video idea, you spent potentially hours filming, you edited the video, and you wanted to post it. You'll always have supporters (especially, Ashlynn), and sometimes it's best to post what you want to and not stress if you can. That's me right now. I am not getting much views on certain videos that I posted for me, but I also am not stressing. I have enough in my life currently to stress about and hardly post for others. It's made me enjoy doing RUclips more, when I stopped trying to post for others.
This was an amazing video Ian! Come on, head up king! Nothing u bring out is ever mediocre, I look forward to your videos every single time I get my notification and they bring us so much joy I hope u genuinely know that. It means so much to see you so passionate and it truly makes me want to read more. God bless Ian! Keep up the amazing work and thank you for all u do!❤
I feel ya. I love classics, but it is a little bit like hiking with a small pebble somewhere in your shoe. Like...it's not annoying enough to make you stop and deal with it, but it's in the way enough to make the journey harder? That's how I feel about prose in most classics, even though I like a lot of the stories lol.
This video didn't suck AT ALL!! Watching another booktuber vlog during a work week shows me that I'm not alone. THANK YOU for this !!!! I will typically read only a book per week (maybe) when work is in full force.
I’ve missed this! Been away from BookTube for far too long, but I’m back! This time for good. Loved the video, Ian! Continue shining and striving! Speak soon.
As always awesome video. Love how raw this is. Most booktyoubers show such an unrealistic number in a week that makes you feel guilty or slow. This is great.
As someone that lived in Utah for a decade, those views made me miss it even more. Crime & Punishment was one of my fav reads in high school. I'll have to pick it up again soon.
This is why most RUclipsrs are young-or retired. It’s hard to work a full time job and do anything else. I had to stop watching the video! I started Crime and Punishment in college, but never finished it. The book was good, but I hated the professor who taught it. I’ve always thought I would go back and finish it someday. Now you are making me very excited to do so! I had to stop watching so the end will still be a surprise for me. PS-I skipped to end of the video. Your videos are good because of YOU. I love seeing people excited about books and reading. You and your wife are adorable together.
I just gotta say, thank you for making a realistic reading video (I think we need more of this type of content...)! I also work full time and in addition have hobbies besides reading so it doesn't leave much time for it lol. One book a week is pretty good pace, in my opinion! I liked your info tidbit about how locals pronounce their city names, I've never heard of that before.
Great video as always man! As someone who has watched you from your first video, this didnt suck. None of your videos do. You are killing it because you are just awesome. We come to watch YOU brother! No matter the quality, no matter the content, no matter the frequency, you are always entertaining, authentic, and hilarious. Keep up the good work, Ian!
I really appreciated this video, Ian! I needed the realistic footage of how a working person actually functionally reads. 😅 It's hard balancing reading in life sometimes and I have to remember even some reading is better than no reading.
I met you and discovered your channel via this video a couple of weeks ago. You know what? - I love it with all my heart. Now you have my sword, my bow and my axe! 😊 And a new fan from the other side of the planet - from Siberia. 😁
Ian, you are fantastic! Don't second guess yourself! Any content of yours is good content in my opinion. Also you're one of the only booktubers my wife will watch and that is a compliment in itself 💜
I’m really glad you made this video because as of recent, I’ve worried about how much time I’ll have to myself going into my career within the next few years. I’ll be going to school to be a teacher and I feared that I wouldn’t be able to really read much anymore or spend time with my hobbies. This video shows that it is still very possible to do plenty with a full-time job. 👍🏻
It would be so fun if you would join BookRoast her Orilium Acadamy Reading Challenge. You have to create your fantasy character, choose your calling and go to “class” for this calling. She has so many interesting reading prompts and since you’re so into fantasy i’d think you would love it
Great video! I'm a mom of three Littles who also works and it's so hard to find time to read. I understand but in a different way. I'm amazed you got through one book so that was awesome!
This was a great video Ian. I love seeing the real side of your life. It’s also nice to know that you are human in your reading habits. I tried to read as many books as possible in July this year avg 150 pages a day and it sucked the life out of some books I felt I was rushing. Interestingly the better a book the slower I want to read it and a book a week is my kind of normal level.
Loved this video Ian! I know you consider these videos mediocre but I actually just love chill vlogs that realistically show what people actually read in a week! Realistically I read like 2 books a week and I used to read 3 but I find reading only 2 during a week I enjoy reading more cause I’m not forcing myself to read and I actually retain more of what the book is about too. I think your job is insane that’s a lot of driving and I thought my husband drove a lot as a pest technician but he has never had to stay in hotels from driving so far! I imagine you got to be dead tired some weeks from all that driving! Well I really enjoyed this video and hope to see you do more of them in the future!! Happy Reading!!🩷🩷🩷🩷
this video didn’t suck and wasn’t mediocre!! you really said that with your whole chest like whaattt 😭😭😭 bro stand up😭😭😭😭😭 respect yourself and the hard work you put in!!!!
I love this format for this vlog. Maybe you should continue this vlog at times! My husband used to stay up late reading, however lately it is more series streaming and video games on the computer. It is not wrong to laugh at times while reading Crime and Punishment. It is meant to make you chuckle, because at times it is satire of life at the times in Russia. Not just political satire but satire based on society.
Shout to Knoxville! We have a town near by named Maryville, but folks pronounce it as Merville. Lol. Loved the video. I always find myself in this conundrum of finding time for my various hobbies during a work week. Glad to see that it's not just me. Enjoyed the video!
Ian…It was a great vlog. I have never read Crime and Punishment, but I am intrigued bc of everything you had said about it. If I am not mistaken, but I could be, Dostoevsky I think is a satirical writer. I am assuming that’s why is characterization is so over the top. Great vlog!!❤
I love this video! I'm in my final semester of university and haven't had time for most of my hobbies while I've been at uni (also concurrently working part time jobs and so on) // about to start full time work in a couple of months and I'm scared that I'll just 'be tired' in the evening and let life slip away :,) its incredible you have time for youtube too I'm also reading crime and punishment rn which is a coincidence but it is taking me a while! (I'm at the end of part four plot twist) Totally agree with your analysis of Raskolnikov, he's so egotistical/I hate him and then suddenly he's going through a bout of guilt and I somehow feel bad for him... but I suppose that's criminal psyche for you 😅
I just finished Crime & Punishment, it was very interesting. I listened to the audiobook as well and the actor Anthony Heald was the narrator, such a good job!
I’m excited for this! I have been doing terrible at reading lately and I have all the time in the world! but I put my blame on RUclips being a slight distraction! I am currently out of a job and looking for one so I have the time just not the motivation to read more than a few chapters!
I liked this video! I recieved Crime and Punishment for my birthday this Summer! It’ a not the next book I’ll réas, but I’m now impatient to get to it!
Loved the video, it’s always fun to see what others do at work. And the guide to pronounce the cities, priceless. As a native Long Islander, I’ve always known that Albany is All-bah-nee, but when I moved to Georgia, it’s Al-bay-nee. 🤷🏽♀️
This video didn’t suck! I also work full time 7:15-4pm every weekday and it gets annoying to see some creators talk about how they “read 6 this week!” I know they aren’t bragging but I enjoy seeing a person who has another job & reads. Hate to be that guy but 13 hours of work is more than a 9-5 😂 keep up the good work!
My thought before even starting the video.
I’m glad to see another person with a 9-5 only read one book. Sometimes I feel like I’m just slow but I should not give myself a hard time. (Teacher schedule 👈🏽)

Moab is singlehandedly my favorite vacation I have ever been on. It's beautiful and perfect and I would love to go back.
Thank you for bringing a smile to my face when watching your content.
honestly loved the slice of life/reading vlog concept. wasnt mediocre at all ! also have now added crime and punishment to my tbr :D
You are the Top Tier of Book Tube! No joke.
i actually really liked this video! most of the people watching also work fulltime jobs so it's more fun to relate to!
I thought this was a great video! Don’t overwork yourself thanks for taking the time to make content when you can
Great video!
Just wanted to say that to balance all the pro audiobook argument ❤
also thanks YT algo for giving me this channel for the first time
My husband is a fan of Russian literature.
Ian, your videos never suck - I know they’re gonna be a good time and they always are!
I gotta say, finding a book tuber thats a fellow Utahn was cool enough, but you going to my hometown in this video too was so fun.
One of my all time favorites 😍

This video didn’t suck!! It was realistic, many people have full jobs like you and with such you can’t always read and that’s totally fine!
I actually loved this video I’m all for more vlogs!

Don’t be so hard on yourself! Your channel is great. Your editing is top tier, chefs kiss 🤌🏽
This was actually encouraging, realistic and attainable.
Your videos don’t suck! Love the realness 😊 love both yours and Ashlynn’s videos!

You need to read Anna Karenina!

I’m currently reading Crime and Punishment, too! This makes me want to finish it today, let’s goooo 💪🏼 📖 🔥

Just finished the book between two fires. It was amazing and I can’t recommend it enough especially as a christain.
I love this video 👌
this video didn’t suck and wasn’t mediocre!! you really said that with your whole chest like whaattt 😭😭😭 bro stand up😭😭😭😭😭 respect yourself and the hard work you put in!!!!
Your channel is amazing, we love this crazy vibes, this shows you are human
Video was good, don’t sweat it you are doing good.
I loved all your last videos🥺
Be kind to yourself!
So glad to see a new video! You're a new favorite of mine!
Read House of Leaves! You'll love it!
Thanks for your hard work. Great video!
Brilliant video!! Hey from the UK 👋🏻😁 ❤
I’ve never read Crime and Punishment since I’m not really a classic reader but the way you talk about it made me laugh.
I love this video! I'm in my final semester of university and haven't had time for most of my hobbies while I've been at uni (also concurrently working part time jobs and so on) // about to start full time work in a couple of months and I'm scared that I'll just 'be tired' in the evening and let life slip away :,) its incredible you have time for youtube too
I'm also reading crime and punishment rn which is a coincidence but it is taking me a while!
Loved the video! Thanks for sharing what is realistic for so many people!!!!
Woohoo! Happy Friday! 🎉
I’m excited for this! I have been doing terrible at reading lately and I have all the time in the world! but I put my blame on RUclips being a slight distraction! I am currently out of a job and looking for one so I have the time just not the motivation to read more than a few chapters!
I love your content as is, man. It feels authentic to you and is always an enjoyable experience.
Really enjoyed this one despite you feeling it might not have been as good as other videos. Keep it up!
FREAKING GUY FOR THE WIN!!!! MAY THE LORD PROTECT YOU
P.S. You had me laughing out loud with your review of this book! Hilarious. LOVED it. I'm HOOKED! 😆😂
I liked this video! I recieved Crime and Punishment for my birthday this Summer! It’ a not the next book I’ll réas, but I’m now impatient to get to it!
this is realistic and i love it
Loved the video, it’s always fun to see what others do at work. And the guide to pronounce the cities, priceless. As a native Long Islander, I’ve always known that Albany is All-bah-nee, but when I moved to Georgia, it’s Al-bay-nee. 🤷🏽♀️
so happy u uploaded this video! it is SO REAL and I NEED that from a booktuber =)
Hang in there my man make time whenever you can 😊🙏
I rated Crime and Punishment a 3! I was generous. ❤
Thanks for the video! Crime and Punishment seems like an interesting read. I’m finishing up Children of Dune myself.
