@ It shouldn’t impact your reading. King does a great job of breaking down American culture of that time, and partly why it’s my fav is because a good chunk of it isn’t about JFK.

currently reading 11/22/63... and I gotta say, it is unbelievably fantastic! Oh my gosh, the story, the characters, the time travel, time period... I have bought into each and every aspect of this novel. This is my FIRST Stephen King book, and I fear I have started at the top. I am excited to read more, but I must say, expectations are HIGH. From the sound of things tho, it seems King has a tendency to live up to, if not fully surpass those expectations.

I wish I'd see more people include On Writing. Sure it's non-fiction but it's an incredible foray into the mind of a writer so many people love. Part of what I enjoy about that book is understanding how he constructs these amazing stories and he talks through portions of that in the book. I'd also throw some love to The Bachman Books. The Long Walk is one of my favorite short stories and Rage.....well, let's just say we've been living in that hellscape for a while now.

the fact that Stephen King is so iconic that he can do crossovers between stories that HE himself created is unreal. Like, that fact that you can read about characters in a current read that he himself invented in novels previously written, and you can geek out on it, speaks very highly to his abilities in character work and manufacturing a connection between the reader and the people he creates in his book universes.. it is simply just icon behavior.

So good to see love for Needful Things and Duma Key - both in my top ten along with: Cell, Salems Lot, Outsider, 11.22.63, Dr Sleep, Under the Dome, - actually I have a top 8 and not sure about my last two, maybe Elevation and The Institution. My issue is, I’ve read pretty much all of them but a lot when I was a young teenager so some were a bit hard for me to keep up with, I am however planning to re-read everything.
I found Salems lot the scariest, I was reading it late one night when I got to the part where one of the young lads (Danny Gluck maybe) starts tapping on the window, I was reading by a window and it was windy and yeah, scared shitless haha. Wow that was much ramblier than I had anticipated lol

I am not a major fan of Horror after the classics. I like it and other genre fiction in movies. But I have read some of King. We went to the same school--Lift your Stines! I remember enjoying them and particularly liked how he took basic horror tropes and twisted or dressed up to make something strangely fresh. I admired Carrie enormously! I even liked the musical.

My favorite Stephen King book, and my favorite book of all time, is The Stand. I am currently rereading’Salem’s Lot, which I read the first time way back in the 1970’s. It scared me more than any book I have ever read. However, I am currently in the middle of the story, and it’s creepy but it’s not scaring me yet. Maybe I’ve read too many scary books. I recently read Needful Things and would definitely rate that one of King’s best. I’ve never read the Shining, so that’s next on my list. I agree with your top 10, except for It. Really didn’t like that one. Thanks for this list and I’m a new subscriber so keep up the good work!

I tried to read '12 past Midnight' and I got lost in the 'overload of detailing in the story. It simply did not move fast enough for me. The same thing with 'Salem's Lot'. But you've sold me on giving The Green Mile a chance. I loved the movie...I am hoping the book will completely capture my mind. Thanks for the recommendation.

Glad needful things and dr sleep are getting recognized, both would be in my top 10, and if you like the stand you should try Swan song by Robert mccammon, I couldn’t get into the stand so a friend told me about how swan song was a post apocalyptic book I might get into and I loved it, The institute by Stephen king is another amazing book that doesn’t get enough love

As an adult, I've read one Stephen King book and it was 11/22/63. Finished about a couple months ago. Don't know how any of his other books can top that one. Probably shouldn't have started with one of his best lol

I've been reading bits of Stephen King and my favorite so far is Misery. 11/22/63 is a close 2nd but the other books I've read by him I wasn't too crazy about(IT and Under the Dome).

I have started my first Stephen King book "The Stand" so I had to skip that part of the video. I was surprised that it came in number 4 for you but I understand why. I am just starting it and I am liking it so far. Because of its size I am giving myself a couple of months to finish it.

I have still many Stephen King books left to read, but I have read a bunch and I loved "The Dark Tower" series - Fun fact: The colleague that told me to read it also spoiled the ending for me! - and also still hold "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" dear to my heart, because it was my first King.

I've only read a few of Stephen King's books (the first two of the Dark Tower series, and The Stand). I'm am NOT a horror fan (though my wife IS). So, we have ALL the Stephen King books, but now I think I can trust you to guide the best.
I will be continuing The Dark Tower series, especially to get to Wizard and Glass, but will be picking up the books left on this list, that I have not read (which is actually TEN books).
Thanks for this list. We really enjoy your videos. Talk to you, later.

I liked The Wolves of Calla as my favorite of the Dark Tower novels, but I can't argue with Wizard and Glass too much, except Wolves finally redeemed Roland for me. He finally became a likeable protagonist.

Fun video to see during October and It is number one. That is one book I am not planning to read because unfortunately the movie has made me scared of clowns when I was little so I will take your word on that one. I have been eyeing on reading Pet Semantary, 11/22/63, or Fairy Tale for my first Stephen King book. Happy reading!

The best thing I've ever read by King is the short story/essay "Head Down." It's a non fiction account of his kids little league season and run to a state championship. I believe it's reprinted at the end of Nightmares and Dreamscapes.
