  • These commercials aired on NBC on December 23rd, 1983
    1. "Friday Night Videos" Intro (With David Bowie)
    2. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Phil Collins)
    3. Congo Bongo (With voiceover by Henny Youngman. The "graphics" here are some sort of animated facsimile of the video game...not even the arcade version of this looked this good back then. It would be interesting to play a modern remake with graphics styled like this)
    4. Black Tower Wine ("The Black Tower" would make a good title for some sword and sorcery movie)
    5. Rolaids (With Tommy Lasorda)
    6. Energizer
    7. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Robert Plant)
    8. Nissan
    9. Zales
    10. Budweiser
    11. U.S. Army
    12. "Friday Night Videos" Commercial Bumper (It's funny to see the iconic duet between David Bowie and Bing Crosby touted as "rarely seen")
    13. Janie Fricke "Love Lies"
    14. Coca Cola (Featuring the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles)
    15. Zest Deodorant Bar (I guess before the "Zest Fully Clean" jingle)
    16. "Friday Night Videos" Commercial Bumper
    17. Promo for "The New Show" (This was a failed sketch comedy show developed by Lorne Michaels that was essentially a spin-off of "Saturday Night Live", the major difference being that it was pre-recorded and not live. It only ran for 10 episodes and was the lowest rated program of the 1983-84 TV season. Michaels had quit producing SNL in 1980 to do other projects and came back in 1985 after this show failed)
    18. Sevier Brothers Tire & Auto Centers (The folksy narrator here would make a good narrator for a documentary on the old west or nature film)
    19. TV Guide (9:04 look old man, nobody wants to watch you publicly leer at "20 Minute Workout" in your little magazine stand)
    20. WSMV 4 News Promo (I guess he wore a loud sportcoat)
    21. WSMV Station ID
    22. "Friday Night Videos" Commercial Bumper
    23. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Roger Daltry)
    24. Juicy Fruit (I've posted this one before but it's still amazing to hear the extended version of this jingle)
    25. TV Spot for "Two Of A Kind" (RIP Olivia Newton-John. This movie was a critical and commercial failure. Though she acted after this in TV movies, this was really her last major film role)
    26. Ford Ranger (11:34 well that's kind of insane. This stunt reminds me of the part in "Groundhog Day" where Bill Murray's character drives a similar red pickup truck off of a rock quarry...only without a parachute: • "Groundhog Day" Chevol... )
    27. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Lionel Richie)
    28. Le Menu Frozen Dinners
    29. Blue Stratos Cologne (Blue Stratos, this fall on NBC)
    30. Noxzema
    31. Buck Rogers: Planet Of Zoom (The Atari 400 computer port shown here is not nearly as impressive as the original arcade game: • Arcade Game: Buck Roge... Also the aliens here look like the Gorn from "Star Trek")
    32. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Bob and Mark, winners of WAPP Friday Night Videos Contest)
    33. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Eddy Grant)
    34. WSMV Be There Promo
    35. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Once the song started I just knew it had to be Mormons)
    36. "Friday Night Videos" Commercial Bumper
    37. Promo for "Night Court" (Crazy to post a promo for the premiere episode! RIP Richard Moll, Harry Anderson and Markie Post)
    38. Cheekwood's Trees Of Christmas Exhibit (Come visit the Christmas Tree exhibit...closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day)
    39. Cumberland Basin Water Safety Council PSA (WOW finally an Ernest commercial! For those that don't know, the Ernest P. Worrell character originally appeared in TV commercials in the Nashville area starting in 1980 before he appeared in national advertisements and feature films. RIP Jim Varney and John R. Cherry III, who created the character)
    40. WSMV Station ID
    41. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper
    42. TV Spot for "Christine"
    43. Slim-Fast (The "Cambridge Diet" referenced here was a fad diet developed by Cambridge University that rose to popularity in the 1980's. Random sidenote: Don Vidler, the guy seen at 19:13 is now the owner of Vidler's 5 & 10 store in East Aurora, New York: • Vidler's 5 & 10 - Fun ... )
    44. U.S. Army
    45. Dentyne
    46. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With The Stray Cats)
    47. Chaps Cologne by Ralph Lauren
    48. Star Trek Video Game (The announcer here is Ernie Anderson and the actor at the end is John Franklin, best known for playing Isaac in "Children Of The Corn")
    59. Clairol Custom Care Curler and Brush
    50. Le Menu Frozen Dinners
    51. "Friday Night Videos" Bumper (With Paul McCartney)
    52. Coast
    53. Prell Shampoo
    54. Sure
    55. TV Spot for "Silkwood"
    56. "Friday Night Videos" Ending/End Credits
    57. Promo for "The Yellow Rose"
    58. Promo for "Broncos Vs Seahawks"
    59. Red Cross PSA (This Christmas, Santa is out for blood!)
    60. Twitty City's Hendersonville 100 Club Christmas Benefit PSA
    61. Promo for "This Week In Country Music" (This duo later hosted the long-running show "Crook & Chase" on The Nashville Network)
    62. WSMV Station ID

1983 has a special place in my heart as it was the year my parents got married. It’s also part of my 80s “sweet spot (1982-1987).” Incredible set.

Congo Bongo was basically Sega’s answer to Donkey Kong. Like 80sCommercialVault, I’d love to see a revival.

    5. Rolaids- With a slogan like “R-O-L-A-I-D-S spells Relief”, I can totally imagine someone in a Spelling Bee using that as an answer if asked to spell the word Relief.
Cumberland Basin Water Safety Council PSA- While it seems like Ernest’s idea of using empty milk jugs as life preservers is clever, I don’t think it would really work in real life.

Never forget the bald bailiff named Bull Shannon.
    RIP. Richard Moll
And yes to Ernest P. Worrell. He saves Christmas and always a good holiday classic.

Friday Night Videos-good video line-up,still have this episode on tape
Black Tower Wine-missed opportunity to have Orson Welles narrate this ad
    Budweiser-with Karla DeVito
Coca Cola-guy at the end"Hey where's my freeze frame..?"
Sevier Brothers Tire & Auto Centers-narrator almost sounded a bit like Hank Hill.."These guys have real nice tires,i tell you what!"
WSMV 4 News Promo-guy wouldn't look out of place as a minor character in a Anchorman movie
    Two Of A Kind-Godspeed Olivia
Le Menu Frozen Dinners-loved to keep the plates
Christine-the alley scene..guy really thought that she was going to back off,boy was he ever wrong
Slim-Fast-Laurel Blond is now president of her father Maurice's insurance agency
Star Trek Video Game-Isaac is a Vulcan banished to Earth for starting The Cult Of He Who Walks Behind The Rows 😱
Prell Shampoo-soon it may get to the point where he's like"Hey,watch the hair!"
Silkwood-the way how this trailer was cut,i had thought it was going to be a action thriller
The Yellow Rose-"..the guy leaving after he's had enough of the previous three things.."

11:02 i like when actors of an iconic movie do another movie together but its totally different and usually not as good. Its like they did a sequel to the original movie but in an alternate dimension (in the multiverse to be trendy🤣)
Theres a bunch of them but one that comes to mind out of personal preference is Money Train that starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

WAPP (as well as the 103.5FM frequency in New York) was going through an identity crisis throughout the 80s and 90s - the rock format seen here only ran for 4 years before going to rhythmic CHR and even country before ending up as WKTU in 1996.
I'd love to hear more of the Sevier Tire guy too! From NASHVUL!

I wonder what year the Juicy Fruit song switched from "the taste that's gonna gonna gonna move ya" to "the taste the taste the taste that's gonna move ya"

    • @DreamDancer82

Probably 1985 or 1986. I have a Juicy Fruit commercial from 1984 that was still using "gonna gonna gonna move ya," and one from 1986 that goes "the taste the taste the taste is gonna move ya."

    These were greaattt!
WAPP was the best radio station in the city at that time.
Slim fast was definitely not a delicious way to lose weight, very chalky tasting.
I thought Brian Setzer of the stray cats was the cats meow when I was 11.
Thank you for another great upload. 😊
