My 2010 ford f150 5.4 liter has a flood mode, you just hold gas petal down and turn key, it will not start up until you let off the gas, I watch the starter redistribute the new oil through the engine and filter, when guage goes up I let of gas petal and fires up at an idle, 600 rpms
Looks like you learned from your dad also, fill the filter and lub gasket with oil

its just a shame GM makes no effort to support self servicing, including self reporting maintenance to carfax
8 quarts, my old 5.7 350 was 5 quarts

Hasn’t re-surfaced, not leaking anymore and hasn’t used any oil.
