Thanks for making this video👍, Just got my self a brand new VBOX for $320 shipping and all, I never thought that I was going to spend this much on an item like this and after finding out when this VBOX came out I thought I made a mistake, I don't think I research enough when I made the purchase cause I saw the websites with $500-$650 per VBOX I was like I'll wait not knowing it came out years ago, you making this video made me so happy that indeed I made a good investment and choice and got a good deal on the VBOX.
Definitely an interesting review. I agree with most of it, but for what I want to do, the data-logging from the ECU is precisely what I want. Horses for courses, as the saying goes. I do wish the Aim device had a phone interface (or a more generic web-interface or something like that), to avoid having a WIndows laptop to access it (I have been using Linux on my computers at work and at home for most of the past 10 years).
My reaction when you dropped this video was “YES!!!”. Great info for the hooligan community lol. This is the best channel for pure real world performance testing on youtube. Bar none.
The VBox is the best all around. That's why Motortrend and Car&Driver use them. The Dragy is great for straight line racers and since it's cheaper it's a great value.
Dragy is nothing like a dyno. It does not measure HP or Torque. What it measures is speed, height, and elevation. It also has a visual graph of data that is a representation of the three while showing numeric values of distance and speed in time.
I think that everyone should have a Dragy. Great tool and honestly, better than going to a dyno. I rather know what a certain mod or tune gives me in real life versus numbers on a dyno.
I’m taking the draggy. It just seems like more people use it and these things are already kinda looked down upon on compared to real world results at a dragstrip
Watching now. I can tell you this, Dragy is within .01s of accuracy confirmed by multiple runs; same location, same elevation, same temp, DA, etc. And four back to back runs logging the same exact 60-130mph time were only different by a marginal slope percent. And all four runs were within 14 inches of distance traveled. Dragy is damn accurate!! The only issue I have with Dragy is that it should have user selected voice notification. If I am doing a 60-130 Dragy pull, I want the voice to say 30 for my roll on, 50 to keep throttle pinned, 60 to start the time, and I want to hear 70, 80, 90, 100, and finalize with 130. There is no user selected voice notification. As simple as the Dragy is, it is small, accurate, and a useful tool for logging performance data. Battery life could be a bit better.
I was waiting for this video, never popped up in my subscription feed (and I am subscribed). Thanks for putting this together, bummer that the AIM Solo 2 isn't great, I really wanted to get one. I may have to wait until the VBOX gets that facelift.
Strange that sometimes the notifications don't pop up in the feed. Solo 2 is great if you want to exclusively use it as a lap timer. But yes, VBOX has proven itself to be a better all around tool. They told me that they should be refreshing the PerformanceBox with Touch technology in the beginning of 2020.
I use Harry's Lap Timer but you're right, it's okay to get an idea of how fast you are, but if you're serious, you should get a real GPS timer. But I hear you can just hook up a Bluetooth GPS receiver and it'll be reliable.
Subscribed. Great review. I have both PerformanceBox and VBox Sport..PerformanceBox just as long as you. Have tried G-Tech Pro RR (2010) also.. not a fan of that device (it was very buggy for me). Have been thinking about buying the "Dragy" for a while, but "lock-in" to an app.. no possibility to log data is a *big* no-no! Come on Dragy! And it is not easy to see who is responsible for this product. Look like some business guys exploiting some good techies producing/programming a good product somewhere in a "low-salary" region. Hope I am wrong, as the device looks good. Is affordable and easy to use on a bike (not that I have any problem with Racelogics products) :)
@TL1000S97 Thank you! I haven’t tried the G-Tech, but I’m curious about it. Seems like a good value/bang for buck and it looks cooler than the VBOX as well. I’ve reached out to Racelogic a few times and they said they’re developing a new PerformanceBox with Touch function and that they would send me one, but I haven’t heard from this since this whole pandemic thing started. The Dragy is great for those who just want a quick and easily solution that’s more casual. I use both in conjunction, to view the times quickly while doing the runs and then later I use the VBOX to do deep analysis of the data. You’re totally right though, Dragy is a business in America outsourcing the programming and tech to China. I still find it odd that the Dragy is more accurate with standing metrics than the VBOX at a physical dragstrip. Maybe I need a new VBOX.
RaceLogic Sport is a great tool and 20Hz is perfect. I think I need to retire my VBOX soon and get the new Touch. RaceLogic mentioned they are working on a P-Box replacement, so maybe I'll look into that as well.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy dragy is only 10 hz and not 20 hz so therefore it is not so accurate as VBOX. Those people who have VBOX know that it is more accurate.
Great video I was definitely curious about these products. I used the C43 track pace at track and it was dead on with times ran. My initial idea was to buy a dragy but after track pace worked dead on that was good enough
Here we go! It’s pretty hard for a machine to measure speed, g force and inertia, all kinds of accelerations, so it’s pretty cool how they work Shit these things are expensive The new AMGs like the CLS 53 have this technology built into the car. Even lap times. It maps out the track with a few warm up laps and maps out a full lap. Also times your 0-whatever speed you set, or whatever speed you set-200, etc. All AMGs and new BMWs have G force meters too, with measuring ticks like trans temp, oil temp, boost, torque, power, and power distribution, also steering angle, which is very nice, oh, and battery voltage. Your wife is cool for letting you use her Mazda It’s cool how all of those have such accuracy near each other Yeah return that shit 2 hours of battery life, that’s not very good lmao VBOX is such a good product and has been for a long long time Nice vid. Enjoyed your commentary as usual Lol cute doggo
Yeah the VBOX and the AIM Solo are not cheap. But if you are serious about performance and track days, then it's a necessary evil. The Dragy is great for people who just want something easy though. I'm not sure how the in-car performance information works but I'm guessing most of the data works off built in meters and as well as pulling information from the ECU. I wouldn't be surprised if they also used a GPS receiver inside the car to cross reference that data as well before it displayed it. We both acknowledge how much we hate the Mazda so we're getting every dollar we can out of it by beating the shit out of it lol. 2 hours of battery life is trash. Most people spend at least 6 hours at the track and if that thing is going to die on me before lunch, it's a pile of shit. Thanks buddy, I don't do these kind of vids too often, but I can see why. Interest is pretty low on videos like this. Catch you on the next one man.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Guys, the draggy CAN VE PLUGGED IN FOR A CONTINUOUS RUN TIME battery life is irrelevant if your at the track. You just plug your equipment in
It does take a little longer than the other two units to connect to satellites in my experience, also more sensitive in conditions where there is overhead obstacles.
Dragy is great but it looks like they have stopped developing/supporting it as there hasn't been a software update in quite sometime, and it's not like the software (android) doesn't have bugs. @Track day TV, have you looked at the P-GEAR performance meter, looks like their new version is with a 20hz gps (P-Gear P520), it also uses a mobile phone app and does track times.
That's pretty disappointing to hear. It was a great platform and had so much potential. I'll have to check out this P-Gear. Haven't heard of it before. I'm trying to find information about it but it seems pretty limited. I see a P600 on Amazon?
Hope I'm wrong about the dragy, and they are just taking their time. The P600 is the 10Hz version, here is their facebook page, might help you get more info : facebook.com/pgeartaiwan/ . Looks like for Europe etc. the model 20hz model is named p610 .
@Track Day - Dragy got awful reviews on Amazon mostly for charging/functionality purposes. Have you (or anyone here) had similar negative experiences? Is the charging micro USB port fail quickly (think of old Samsung phones)? TIA
@kiiiburn I’ve been experiencing the charge-holding capabilities starting to deteriorate pretty quickly. I’m still on my first Dragy, however, I’m noticing that it either doesn’t hold a charge anymore or the battery just dies suddenly without much use. I also know someone who is on their second Dragy in a year now because of that similar issue. I think longevity comes down to pure luck, but I’ve been testing a lot of new dataloggers recently and I’ll be following up on this datalogger conversation soon. I will say that Dragy still provides the best bang for buck and ease of use. Nothing else on the market is comparable at this price point.
@@SpeedLabsMotorEnvy Definitely interested in more data logging content. I'll pick up the dragy at a very reasonable price for now. It can't it be all that hard to open it and replace the cheap battery right?
I guess I should've clarified this one. On the actual display, it is only tenths of a second but in the Racelogic software, it's hundredths. But on the AIM Solo, it's thousandths in the software and at least hundredths in the display.
