I just ordered a 7900xtx to go with my new build using a 7800x3d. Currently running a 4790k and a gtx 1080 so the performance bump is gonna be crazyyy. I'm so excited
For me where I am the price is $950 for the 7900 XTX and $1,200 for the 4080 super. No matter which way you slice it the 4080 Super isn't $250 dollar better unless you're just a Cyberpunk,Allen Wake player and only care about RT in them games and don't ever play anything else. But at the end of the day get the GPU YOU want and can afford and be happy both are powerhouse cards that will give many years of 1440p and 4k max setting worth of gameplay.
Finally, someone said what I've been trying to say. Those 2 games are not the end all be all. People play other games not just those 2. So 250 is not worth it.
And don't ever play anything else ???? Why this conclusion. No i will Tell You If You wanna test every Ray tracing implementation on future games, If the games You play u see instability maybe u need dlaa. U have this anti aliasing method Best to date for the Best image quality u can get to date. And this is why u pay extra. And some users will pay extra for that.
@pR0ManiacS Only Allen Wake 2 and Cyberpunk at 4k pushes the 7900 XTX down...I can run RT at 1440k Ultra on Cyberpunk and get over 60 frames of smooth gameplay... If you ONLY play them titles at 4k then the 4080S will be the way to go but all other RT games can be played with the 7900 XTX. I play mostly sim racing and online shooters which will NEVER have RT in them so for me getting the 4080 for more money is useless.
@dennythescar80s8 that and if you want to turn on raytracing or think dlss is quite a bit better than fsr. I use dlss in every game that has it. Usually in quality or ultra quality but it looks really good now
Both cards represent a decent choice for the consumer. AMD card if you only care about raster or Nvidia card if you want RT/PT and better upscaling and frame gen. I'm a graphics snob so never even considered the XTX. Both are still 200 dollars too expensive though.
Thanks man. Appreciate that. We also have a discord (discord.gg/eTeknix) and Patreon (www.patreon.com/eTeknix) if you want to get involved but perfectly fine if not 🙂
One point that shouldn't be overlooked is overclocking. I've had both Reference and Nitro + 7900 XTX's, and the reference overclocked 10% over stock and the Nitro about 14-15% over reference stock. On the 4080's you're lucky if you get 5% extra, usually more like 3-4%
Clocks depend on game/benchmark. On my overclocked Nitro I've seen up to about 3150 Mhz in game. But 3050 is more reallistic for stable OC. Some punishing benchmarks more like 2970 Mhz,@@Anonymous-g7f3m
He is referring to the reference card where the base clock is 2300mhz and boost only 2500mhz. So in that case the nitro +has a base clock of 3000 mhz. The board partner model of the 4080 is almost on the max possible target. There is barely headroom for OC. No big difference between reference and board. My nitro+ runs well at these settings: Base speed 3000mhz Power + 15% Voltage 1100mv VRAM 2700mhz Any further is possible depending but you have to unfortunately increase the voltage
I get the same 10% out of my non-OC 4070 Ti model. So I do not see any reason why 4080 Super is a worse overclocker. Unlike 7900 XTX, this card is somewhat limited by memory bandwidth, so overclocking VRAM alone will surely bring 5% improvement. Overcloking cores will result in another 5%.
The 7900xtx is actually the worst card I have ever had the misfortune to overclock. You have to tune it on a game to game basis as the core clocks can change by almost 300mhz in certain loads. In 3dmark I could get the card to hold over 3ghz no problem but then I'd load up a game and anything over 2.7ghz would crash, then I'd play another game and 2.8ghz was the magic number before it crashed. There is zero consistency with the card and honestly unless you want to stress test every game then it's not worth overclocking. The 4080 Super on the other hand took me 10 minutes to dial in and has been a rock solid 2940mhz in every load. Overall the 4080 gets like 5-7% increase max i've seen was 11% and the AMD best case would get 0-12% depending on the load. Overall I'd say they have similar headroom but the AMD is just way too finicky for me to ever want to OC again.
Both are horendously overpriced, the ray tracing sucks on both of these cards and Nvidia are holding actual good ray tracing at a $2000 ransome. Disgusting company.
7900xtx inst over priced i have it paired with a 7900xtx with the 24gb vram, it is a monster just that adrenaline is a shitty software and i head that the nvidia one is worse
I gotta ask. If ur saying red dead 2 is 70% faster than a 4080 super why in the world would u leave that video out of this video and 2nd why are u testing it in Vulcan? Some of these tests just seem to be way out of line with what I see everywhere else. I've not ever seen 1 video where someone says the xtx is 70% faster nor 45% faster than a 4080 super in any Game. The closest I've seen to thos numbers is call of duty and everyone know cod favors amd heavily. But imo some of these are just sketchy
There is absolutely no way the XTX is 45% faster than a 4080S in Plague Tale Requiem There isn't one review out there with such a big gap between the two in this game I know people bench different scenes but even then that is just so out of the norm that it can only be an error
We retested that recently to make sure it was right and then retested again. Maybe the different people have it wrong but my data has been validated several times, retested and I record the number it spits out to me. I'm guessing those other people have NVIDIA Super res on or a better performance resolution optimiser on which will likely favour NVIDIA or Reflex enabled. There's a ton of settings that would favour NVIDIA.
@@eTeknixthose numbers still don't make any sense. How is the rx 7900 xt 87,5% faster than the rx 7800 xt while it only has 40% more cores. Even if we say it scales perfectly it'll be 50% faster than it at best. There seems to be an error in the tests. Even in Hardware Unboxed's videos the numbers are way closer between all those cards (7800xt, 7900xt/xtx and rtx 4070ti super)
@@thewinner4x873 crickets lol. Trash channel this. I got into it years ago with this guy over his crappy testing and he did not take it well. He is fragile when it comes to (deserved) criticism.
Wonderfull job my dear,as always. I met you for the first time when you did the video on The Verge PC building,i literally died. Since then i still follow your amazing job. An hug from Italy, keep going 💜
Ijust bought the 4080 SUPER. Right now, there was literally no price gap between the two cards (both ~1000€) and for me the lower power consumption and DLSSR support was the tip for me. The Power part is (I am from Germany and we have midst the highest energy prices in the world) quite important for me and might not really apply in other countries where energy is still affordable.
The XTX price is very appealing, but it seems like the long term investment favours the 4080S, given the energy consumption difference. I'd probably end up spending the monetary difference on electricity while gaming alone, in less than a year. It's a lot of money that can go towards new high end card when the time comes. It's something to consider.
Running a 4080 super with ryzen 7 7800x3d. My build was just over 2000. Love it, play everything in 4k with maxed out settings now. I upgraded from a 1660 super, ryzen 3600x XD.
Thank you for your videos, they really help along with other RUclips videos and resources with my decision making for which parts to use in my build. I like the approach you take.
People will go usually with their wallet can afford. The 7900xtx was always aimed at the 4080,the 4090 was out on its own 😆. Looking at pulling the trigger on the 7900xtx could technically afford the 4090 but that's 600 more for alittle more performance and I'm not fussed about RT.
7900 XTX if you do not care for ray tracing. However, I would prefer the 4080/super because of how well DLSS compared to FSR performs. Nvidia has me sold with their non-gaming features such as RTX voice, RTX super resolution and HDR feature as of recently.

u do know that EU has tax added on top of MSRP right? So basically u have to add 20/21/23% to the msrp to get base price depending on whatever tax there is on pc components in netherlands. 4070 ti msrp is like what, 799, with 20% tax it comes to 950~ so close. It becomes beyond annoying that EU people still dont understand this to this day@@НААТ
In August of 2023, I really lucked out because Newegg had an open-box card that was priced so low that I couldn't say no. They had an ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC for $1148CAD which was about $850USD. After verifying that it was still fully covered by ASRock's factory warranty, I pulled the trigger and it has had a home in my Server Supertower ever since. It was being sold even cheaper than the RX 7900 XT at the time and, even though I was already rocking an RX 6800 XT, I knew that if I didn't buy the XTX, I'd be kicking myself for a very long time. To my knowledge, no XTX has been listed for that low of a price before or since.
I'm building my next PC with a 9800X3D and initially wanted a 4080 Super. I mainly play VR (Blade and Sorcery) and COD. I don't really use RT, so would I be better off with the 7900XTX with more VRAM? Are there any other benefits to using an Nvidia card if I don't use RT?
Même pour le RT il n'y a aucun intérêt de prendre du Nvidia sauf pour le stream sur twitch (qui de toute manière sera bientôt possible en AV1 et donc Nvidia perdra aussi le seul intérêt qu'i lui restait).
Where? I’m also in to US but everywhere I look I only find one sell for $919 for the cheapest one. Even the used market, the cheapest one I found is 855.
Got 7900 xtx nitro plus on friday, couldn't be happier, was an rtx 3080 10gb user for 3 years but that vram buffer is just pathetic, also couldn't care less about raytracing since it wasn't playable on 3080 and in most cases i turned it off. Can't support ngreedia anymore, time to go fine wine path :)
@@quicogil4565 Yes, tuned and overclocked hell out of it, just 2% slower in firestrike ultra than 4090, infact overclocked and tuned 7900 xtx is +19% faster than reference design stock 7900 xtx, Just love it
I grabbed my the 7900 XTX TUF OC (Didn't know graphics card could be as big as the motherboard 😂) It's a damn beast of a card I could've got the 4080 Super for about $250 more than what I paid but the games I play (Sim Racing and online shooters) RT doesn't mean anything to me so I went with what I wanted an all AMD build and just pure horsepower.
@@alkine3011 Yes whats the point of raytracing if it's barely playable with 4090 and requires fake frame gen and even then it's barely passible experience. That frame gen gimmick force AMD to make their own which works on anything, only proof that Nvidia does anticonsumer tactics, there is no limitation of the older hardware only ngreedia thing
Many think the rx 7900xtx is better because it is cheaper and with more vram but as the technology moves ahead being a game designer myself I can say soon most games will come with Ray tracing as default and raw power wont be a thing..... Things like AI upscaling DLSS or FSR will become standard and not to forget the power consumption of the RTX card is way lower and with better performance in DLSS and RT for me the 200 dollars extra price tag is much more worth it. The only beef with 4080 super is the vram but I guess for most part atleast for a few years 16 GB will be more than enough for around 95% of the games. Just my take as an industry professional because it is much easier to light games using ray tracing than baking each light for rasterization so no designer or company ahead wants to spend time and money in baking lights just use ray tracing 1 click and realistic light no effort, and thats where I see the future game industry going. So yeah just a comment hope it gets pinned so that people also take into account these things before going for just raw power at cheaper price at cost of long term higher energy bills and less performance in future with RT games as default. 😅
Great review. Honestly I feel the 7900 XTX is more future proof in the long haul thanks to the massive amount of ram on the card. Granted the 4080 handles ray tracing better but that's something that seems to still be in it's growing pain phase at the moment. Plus you can turn it off anyway. Games are using more and more ram these days so for the long haul I think the 7900 is the better bet.
i own 7800 for a year now . AMD is cool but i rather pay extra in the future and have DLSS, AI, Streaming on discord without stuttering and like every game comes with Nvidias latest dlss support and features.. and the fact that uninstalling amd adrenaline app and installing only drivers that are at least 3 months old cuz the newest once are always so bad is just ridiculous great video!
Yeah i bought an amd 7900 XTX and i regret. it is awesome , when it works. Lots of Amd driver timeout issue Amd isnt good with drivers. 7900 xtx currently experience lots of issues with DX 12 games ** Not all games **
7900xtx will last longer than the 4080 super since 16gbs might last only two to three years where as the 24gb 7900xtx should last at least five or more years potentially
For me RTX 4080 Super is exactly $1274 and for the RX 7900 XTX is exactly $1391 and given the performance i will be going with the RTX 4080 Super because it is cheaper and there isnt any noticeble difference.
This was very comprehensive and quite surprising at times TBH. I had thought the 4080 Super would have had a bigger RT lead at all times than it (with a few exceptions such as outliers like Cyberpunk). If both GPUs were the same price as they basically are in the US, I think getting a 4080 Super is a no brainer if you vou play a lot of RT games. In the EU given that the 4080 Super pricing is now the same as the standard 4080 and in some cases €100 more expensive for the same brand of card. And you can get a higher end 7900XTX for €200-250 less than a 4080 Super, the Super becomes a much harder sell. The 7900XTX is basically in the same price bracket as the 4070 ti Super here. At around €1050. I think the 7900XTX is the better choice in this region, even if you like RT turned on.
Nvidia takes a pretty significant lead in many other RT games, that were not tested here, like Avatar, Dying Light 2, Metro Exodus, Crysis, Returnal, Bright Memory, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Medium, Spider Man Miles Morales, SotTR, RTX Remix games etc. But it is just impossible to test every game. The gap between these two cards depends on how many and how intensive (resolution/quality) RT effects are in certain games.
I think both GPUs are top-notch, and you can't really go wrong with either. The 7900 XTX is still pretty good even for Ray Tracing, although it's slower than Nvidia - might be worth a price difference if that's important to you. Games like Rachet and Clank really show a big gap, but not all Ray Tracing games are like that. Nvidia's still faster overall, just not as mind-blowing as in Rachet and Clank. There are only like 5-10 games where you'll see a massive difference, like even 30% or more.
Nvidia also offers better upscaling/downscaling quality. DLSS Quality at 4K is almost free performance. And DLDSR does a great job in downcscaling 4K image to 1440p, unlike VSR. Plus, there is a difference in power efficiency. Taking into account all these factors, 4080 Super justifies it's small premium (if it is actually small, like less than $100).
@@stangamer1151 If it is just $100, I wouldn't prefer AMD either. For instance, when I bought the RX 7900 XTX Red Devil for $900, the RTX 4080 was $1200. I think they will drop XTX to $800 or even $750; otherwise, for $100, I wouldn't prefer AMD because it doesn't justify only $100. Ray tracing itself can justify it, let alone power efficiency or other factors.I forgot to mention about this in my original comment.
I think your review has the best honest opinion of each card and you can't go wrong with either of them. You don't really promote one or the other just point out the various differences and where they make sense for the consumer.
Thanks. Think you’re the first person to say that on one of our videos 😂 normally it’s from the people saying we’re hating on one brand or the other and how we’re shilling for one or the other. Thanks ☺️
Were you using a wattmeter to test power consumption? because that 482 looks like a spike because iv'e seen way higher then that i think 592 watts was the maximum reported on MSI afterburner on my gigabyte gaming OC 7900 xtx after doing a 20 minute run in cyberpunk 2077 at 4k maximum settings
The huge variance in power draw may not cause extreme temps on the core those temps are going into my room. I live in florida and the thought of paying for an extra 100-150 watts 10 hours a day and then paying to cool all that. The costs do add up for me. Not only that but my room is much more comfortable than it would be with the 7900xtx. Id honestly have bought the 7900xtx if it was more efficient
bought the Radeon 7900XTX Red Devil. Then, I played Cyberpunk 2077 constantly for about two weeks. Suddenly, the card just died completely. I returned it and got a full refund. I've been back with Nvidia ever since. Now, I'm considering getting a new 7900XTX. When I had the 7900XTX before, I experienced many driver issues. Have these been addressed, or are they still crashing frequently? Or was it just because the card I had was faulty?
I got the nitro+ and saw a reddit post where someone explained how to disable ULPS on windows so the occasional driver time outs stop. Took me a few seconds, restart, no more issues whatsoever, never crashed any of my games (CP 2077, BG3, Star citizen, TLOU1, tekken 8 and many more). I believe its a windows issue, not a GPU issue. I oc+ uv -ed my 7900xtx and it runs at 280-300W on full load while never getting hotter than 50C°. Insane card..
Stick with Nvidia. I literally just bought a 4080 super today and am going to sell my 7900 xtx. It's still plagued by driver crashing issues and I'm over it. Had the 5700 xt, 6800xt and 7900 xtx. The driver issues on the 7900 xtx is getting to be too annoying.
I had the 7900xtx but had to return it. I was having so many issues with stuttering and about 20% of the time I had a weird artifact problem when starting a game. This was on a new build. I am much happier with the 4080.
@@crazynat6165Oh I know. I learned my lesson a long time ago. I run DDU every time I change cards. I reseated the card and reinstalled the drivers 3 times. Even did a fresh windows install. After that I gave up. More than likely was a bad card out of the box.
@@Valenzx718 Have to agree, I literally just ordered a 4080 super 15 minutes ago and am going to be selling my 7900 xtx. I'm so tired of pissing around with my computer and dealing with driver crashes in Darktide and other games. If the 7900 xtx wasn't plagued by garbage drivers and software I would love it. I've had it about a year and I just can't anymore. I'm sick and tired of the issues. Hell I had to order a new case just to fit the damn thing. It's so worth it if I don't have to deal with AMD driver crashing far too often. AMD drivers especially are awful. It's unacceptable for a $1,000 card, hell it's unacceptable even for a $300 card. They are similar performance but if I don't have to deal with driver crashing I'll spend $200 more for the same performance. I've had enough, AMD has had more than a fair try from me having a 5700 xt which had some driver issues, had a 6900 xt which was fine and then sold again for a 7900 xtx and I'm just done playing with AMD driver disasters. They need to stop trying to match Nvidia features and get stability down. You can make amazing cards but if they crash often no one cares and is exactly why their gpu market has barely moved. Fix your damn drivers AMD.
But why would u buy such an expensive 4k card, just to be able to handle RT for the price of playing in 2K using DLSS? The 4080 is essentially a crazy overpriced 1440p card with a VRAM amount already being reached (and even surpassed with texture packs). I cant seem to find any sense behind that DLSS and RT argument. Paying a premium price just to use the card a tier below and running into VRAM problems in about 2-3 years maximum. Just seems like a horrible investment to me. Maybe with the next gen RT becomes a little more viable, but probably even more demanding or only accessable to 50-series cards, as typical for Nvidia. This gen I just dont see the 4080 being a good purchase, unless u plan to upgrade in just 2-3 years already, making it a shitty investment imo, cause almost any 4070 would have done the job for a way better price (or the 7900xtx and keep it for 5+years).
If you think the 4080s is a terrrible deal but the 7900xtx is a great, or think that the 3080 10gb was a great deal at 700 before inflation, then i cannot help you. @@Greenalex89
I recently chose the 4080S over the 7900XTX mainly for the better RT performance, feature set and generally lower power draw. RT is the future and rasterization is handled well enough in relation to the 7900XTX. Whilst native rendering has its merits DLSS really allows graphical fidelity to reach amazing new heights in RT or even just rasterized rendering.
@@Greenalex89 Actually, it depends about the 1440p you are talking about. I would say that the 4080 (super) is a great 1440p card in 21:9 which has more resolution than 16:9 but isn't quite 4k (21:9 1440p: 3440 x 1440 vs 16:9 1440p: 2560 x 1440 vs 16:9 'true' UHD/4k: 3840 x 2160) DLSS and RT becomes actually pretty decent at that slightly below 4k resolution.
@@robhewitt5640 if you’re playing a bit of everything including the likes of Alan wake 2 then I’d definitely say NVIDIA as it’s the only one who can deal with games like that in their entirety and upscaling is needed. Happy to discuss more on our discord discord.gg/eTeknix
My opinion is: I don't care for those 5 games in the industry that have an RT option, I will never turn them on and lose a lot of FPS, but the truth is. The RTX 7900 XTX has 8GB more VRAM and 384 Bits and is more affordable, while the RTX 4080 Super has 16GB VRAM only and 256 Bits, for a num game workflow AMD, is the true winner BUT, if you are looking for Professional Workloads and IA Generators Locally, Nvidia is the only choice because all those professionals workloads loves CUDA Cores and AMD doesn't have it, which in my case is unfortunately since here in my country I can buy a card cheaper with 8GB VRam more and 128 Bits more, but I cannot buy it because doesn't have CUDA Cores.
@@lucianogregory9986 Even then it`s the same price (384 Bits and 8GB More VRam)because the advantages of AMD for in gaming(for only gaming I should go for AMD with blind eyes without thinking) already mentioned by me, you can compare, 90% of the game benchmarks nVidia loses to AMDs contra part, sometimes the XT version beats the 4080 and 90% of the games XTX win versus 4080 Super, only loses to 4090 that is way more expensive and as I said before it's not magic, 4090 has 384Bits.

I do. I actually own more RT games than the ones listed and with RTX Remix releasing, hundreds of older titles will get new RT/PT mods that will be significantly better on Nvidia gpus. I think I'm more excited for RTX Remix mods and Half-Life 2 RTX than I am for most AAA games. It's a gimmick but it's a gimmick I enjoy.
If you wattage normalize, the Nvidia wins. However it wins technically but by very little. Both cards are solid and for most people price is the biggest variable.
That is a scary thought where you said the 7900 xtx might lose support if AMD is not competing anymore at the high end. I just read AMD has NPU in CPU coming to desktop soon, so maybe they will just focus on cpus and such going into the future. Just picked up a 4070 Super and 5700x3d for 1440/120 gaming. It should be a massive upgrade from my Ryzen 1600 and Rx 470 4gb.
My choice was for 4080super between these two. Not because the RT performance, but because DLLS 3 (HUGE increase)... And don't tell me about FSR, because it looks ugly.
need to do this again with AIB gpus... noone is buying the ref 7900xtx due to its hotspot problems, they are also very hard to buy at least in the states
Performance would be 1-2% margin of error differences. Some games would go up, some down and some the same so would be pointless. Only difference would be temperatures and power.

There are multiple 4080 Super cards that come in at $999, like the Asus tuf gaming, the MSI Ventus and the zotac trinity to name a few, and for AMD there are multiple XTX cards that come under the same $999 price point like the power colour red devil, the sapphire pulse and the xfx speedster, all of those cards can be seen on Newegg. And about the performance, claiming that the xtx was better in every raster game is an outright lie, all the information you presented was false, and for what?
I’m new to building a pc. I run two screens, stream, and mainly play star citizen. I currently have a 3070. Half my friends say amd because I run ryzen 7 7700. If price wasn’t a factor (not looking at the 4090) what would you recommend
I really feel like you definitely favor amd thats pretty clear. We are all entitled to our opinions but i believe its whichever people wanna spend there $ on and what they enjoy 💯. Great video though
I disagree wholeheartedly. I’m all about value for money which AMD has the upper hand with but I can also see the added worth that NVIDIA bring in terms of their feature set so I guess you could say that I’m indifferent.
Man I hate the GPU market! Here in Australia the 4080 Super is $1699 AUD (1138 USD) while the 7900XTX is only $1499 AUD (982USD). Seems like the 7900xtx might be the better option, but damn it hurts when I only paid 1200 AUD for my 3080 12GB.
I got my xtx for 850 dollars while the 4080 super was 1300 dollars around that time, until now everything works perfect and I can play any game I tried until now at 4k with 100+ fps (most of the times around 140-150 fps)
$1000 for 4080 super - maybe in one country - USA, but the market is not limited to one country, in Europe the fees are higher and 1170 euro is the starting price in my country, but Europe is a target market for AMD and there are models even under 1000 euros for 7900 XTX
Correction, just because they are running at the same temperature, does not mean they are emitting the same waste energy as heat. I would assume due to the higher energy consumption the AMD card likely will dumb more heat energy into a room even if the measured temp of the card is the same.
Isnt that obvious? U wont skip basic physics - more wattage, more heat, scales the same across the board, 100w product will emit half the heat of 200w product.
100w product may admit more heat or less heat than a 200w (although your rule of thumb is not off it is an assumption), as heat is a waste product and a by-product of the efficiency of the processing. It is not necessarily a linear relationship. My point was comparing two cards at different power draws and saying because they are the same GPU temperature does not mean the waste heat will be the same. OC cards tend me be less efficient (as you push silicone harder efficiency or processing per watt will decrease, even if overall processing output is higher), so even if the cooler is maintaining the same temperature its likely dumping more waste energy into the room. Largely this is why I undervolt components as it improves efficiency and increases the processing per watt. Reducing waste heat generation. Truth is a lot of these cards have a huge margin of safety in for stability and longevity. So depending on the silicon lottery there is always room for optimisation and improved efficiency. Another way to look at this is a bronze vs gold rated PSU. Both may produce 1000W on the DC side but the bronze will draw 1200w from AC , whilst the gold may only draw 1100w. Both have the same output, but the bronze will dump an additional 100w of waste energy into the room. Again, bit of a generalisation but same rule of thumb.
Well my OC-ed and undervolted 7900xtx nitro+ has a max draw of 300W while never crossing 50C°, fans not noticable. A ton of factors play a role and assuming that power draw is equivalent to heat production is naiv at best, considering the comparison of 2 different systems.
can you make a review for Colorful brand like the 4070ti super/4080 super of Ultra W OC and Vulcan W oc and Advance OC. it has good score to some benchmark but some says it has poor build quality.
Im shocked at the comments haha. It was back and forth the entire video and thats in raster. The 4080 super also won in most of the newer titles. Why would anybody choose a card with a very small rasterization difference across very few titles when you know what you xab do in the likes of alan wake and starfield and neer titles. Up to a 109% increase in performance with dlss3 and you can turn everyrhing on with it. That over turning down to 1440p to play in raster anyday of the week on the strongest titles out. Im sry but it shouldnt even be a question. You are getting much more tech with nvidia and pretty much identicla raster that you cqnt even notice just depends on the game. Sometimes 4080 super wins sometimes the 7900xtx wins. There is a reason why in rendering and any true procedsor from gpu task nvidia has such a massive lead. There proccesor is just better. They are using the future of gaming with techniques that do work and make gaming even further better at hifher resolutions where cards usually get hammered and arent fun to use there. What matters is the pc displays it and still feels the same as a native frame which is all that matters. You feel no difference in 120fps with dlss then 120fps native. None what so ever. And the 4k dlss is so so food that its way to close to raster to not account for. Its better looking then going back to native 1440p. So again why choose amd? Wouldnt you rsther game at 90 fps in alan wake with everything on instead of 40fps in 4k while having better results then 1440p natively in frames and in graphics? Yeah thinking about it that way may make you go wait thats true. Im going to always choose the card I can utilize every single setting with. That imo is the better card. Also remember bottlenecks are real and the 4080super gets more bottlenecked then the 7900xtx which should tell you alot. So in the future both will be even stronger You went oh we see the bottleneck not be as bad at 1340p and 4k yet if you look at utilization the nvidia gpu is still being more limited that is why the results changed a bit. Nvidia is just better at the future of gaming all of the latest games it plays better with all of the newer features. Period. You should also test them now both have been upgraded with drivers. 4080 super has some nice chunky uplifts now. Latest one added another 6fps on alot of games for us.
With DLSS being so good, even better than native resolution is many cases, and FSR being so much worse I really think benchmarking Nvidia should always have DLSS on. I can't imagine not using DLSS but I almost always prefer native over FSR.
In the UK the 4080 Super is still at £1050, whilst I can find an RX 7900XTX for £900, the 7900XTX will be the card I’ll be going for in my first desktop build, currently I’m running a 4060 Laptop with a Ryzen 7 7735HS, it’s a good little laptop for £1366 and I’m happy how it performs at 1080p, but I want to use some heavier mods and wanna start gaming at 1440p/4K, I’m not too worried about Ray Tracing since if you wanna run ray tracing at 4K with 60FPS, you’re gonna need a 4090 for that, and I’d just rather buy another whole ass car for that money 😂
I enjoyed your video today but as always there could be some real world difference between these 2 cracking cards, I would be interested to know what monitor you used in these tests, a lot of people won’t be making desicions correctly based on these tests, if someone has a 60hz 4K monitor then a lot of these tests won’t matter as both cards would be very evenly matched in terms of raw power, and so the cost would make a difference. Could you test these cards with 2 different monitors or different refresh rates and connections via display ports and hdmi as this would help more people narrow down the differences. I’m not a fanboy and enjoy all graphics cards but most of all I like to pay less for more or is that more for for less 😂
Not sure what you mean here, people can see the frame rates at different resolutions here, that's what they can base their monitor choice upon no need for specific tests on individual monitors
Im definitely torn. I could get a asrock phantom 7900xtx open box for 850. Or i could get a gigabyte 4080s for $1050. The difference in power draw, fan noise and 1% lows make me want to stay nvidia. But i also hate their business model, now going the way of apple. I could also just stay with my 3080 10gb and wait a few years and get something better used for $500. Nvidia putting frame gen only on 40 series cards really felt like a stab in the back to me.
I got the msi 4080s for like $1121 from best buys recently restock; it’ll be my first pc build so im happy to shell out top dollar, but rumor has it nvidia will drop a 5000 series later this year or early next if you wanna hold out
I invested in the Sapphire 7900xtx nitro+ cause I dont want to lower the settings in 2 years with a 4080 to be able to play in 4k. If I buy a high end card I want it to last 4-5 years at least, without being limited. I disabled ULPS in windows (saw a reddit post, takes 1 minute) and had 0 driver timeouts ever since. Undervolted and OC-ed the card so it runs at 300W max load without performance loss while being silent and super cool, never crossing 50C° in my Fractal torrent case. Im blown away by this card. The quality is worth the extra money imo.
4080 for $800-875 and 7900xtx for $700-810. US Dollars at least. I’ve fetched two 7900XTX at $710 and $800 and a pny 4080 for $800. At these prices which are 33% off or more of original msrp. Not too bad. So it’s not just a want at these prices. People are getting their hands on 4070ti super or 4090 and selling the rest for whatever they can get. These are used prices.
I bought the asrock taichi 7900 xtx as the fine wine drivers go on it will just get better, fsr 3.1 looks awesome and 24gb of vram will futureproof me for years to come, plus its cheaper.
I don't care about AMD's extra performance in rasterization, as long as I can get a better quality image using DLSS and also adding ray tracing with my 4080 Super.
Different people have different needs. For me I don't care about Ray tracing and upscaling methods. Playing games at native resolution is just the best. The fact that companies hide their weakness with dlss and fsr is sad. I'm going with AMD for raw power and great vram.
@@RightSide-e1s Not to mention that in some games, there are better mods for non ray tracing games, too. Resident Evil 2 Remake is a perfect example. Sure, after lots of testing, ray tracing looks better. But I totally agree that everyone has different wants and needs. In RE2 Remake, it's either better mods without ray tracing, or bad mods with ray tracing. To make it even worse, some mods for ray tracing don't even work. I prefer better mods for the replay value.
I think its important to remember that no gamer ever woke up and said I am not playing anymore games until we have raytracing.... The reality is hardly anyone cares about it and while I am not a fan of AMD stuff (Always seems below the current standard albeit at a reasonable price to performance ratio) I can't help but look more seriously at their graphics cards when Nvidia are bending the customer base over with their ridiculous prices. Why would anyone pay 2k for a 4090 (and I appreciate we are looking at the 4080 Super here) when an entire new PC with everything else in total costs the same and just takes PC gaming outside the realms of possibility for most. On top of this Intel seem to have screwed the pooch seriously in this latest drop of technology too. So perhaps its AMD's time to get some custom, lord knows while my last 5 GPUs have been Nvidia and my last 4 CPUs have been intel I am seriously considering switching over at this point.
Did you test in both cards with 200% of render image quality in settings? I have a RTx 7900xtx and when I put in 200% of render the 24 GB of VRAM supports without problems, but when I do it the same in RTx 4070 ti (12 GB of VRAM), this card exceeds the limit and has a dramatically falls in the FPS. Obviously, to do this in both cards I use a power supply of 1000 watts. I notice that in several comparisons in RUclips, no one changes that settings. Why?
"Nvidia is the master of ray tracing" -eTeknix Is it? I beg to differ. Strangely, the only game that can possibly answer that question definitively was left out: Avatar. Why? We know Avatar has RT baked into the game itself which means the developer would have had to optimize RT performance for both brands. That is not the case with other games.
Just bought a PNY 4080 Super and replaced my XFX 7900 XTX. The 7900 XTX gets like 5-10 FPS more in some titles, but the 4080 Super is a much better card overall. Games just seem a lot smoother, the Nvidia goodies (RT, additional graphics in games like Batman Arkham Knight, DLSS) are true game changers. Nvidia drivers look outdated (and basically are). but they just work. Another bonus is the PNY 4080 Super is so much quieter than the XFX 7900 XTX and the power supply is a lot less taxed due to the efficiency. I simply refuse to pay $2000 for a video card, or I would have gone 4090. For those on the fence, hard to recommend the 7900 XTX considering the price is almost the same.
I'm absolutely torn right now, as I want Nvidia's power draw with AMD's raw performance. 😫 I just dont want my PC to be a space heater anymore, especially in the summer time. 😅
I'm not at all confident that RTX 5K GPUs will be available to the unwashed masses any time in 2024, so I'm considering using a 4080 Super in my upcoming AM5 build. It's not for ray tracing performance because I don't play any RT games. I'm only going there because I already have a 7900XTX.
Where I live they are the same price, with the exception that for the 7900 XTX the cheaper ones are brands like ASRock, Sapphire, on the Nvidia side it's possible to have an ASUS TUF for the same price, personally, for the same price and the Asus brand that I trust much more than the cheaper brands from AMD I would tend to head towards Nvidia, if AMD would drop $200, that would be a different story.
Testing raw performance where nvidia lose after turn all dlss RT and FG nvidia win with better video quality and better look on RT thats why im still nvidia fun and not amd
So if anyone would be behind it's, nvidia. They can't even think of giving their customers premium builds. You're going to pay more for a card that if they wanted, they could blow away AMD just by adding more ram. I came from nvidia to amd for that reason. I just don't think investing money into a company that wants you to pay more because that's what they want you to do and let's not forget all the third party card builders they've cut out too that we all loved because of greed.
I just ordered a 7900xtx to go with my new build using a 7800x3d. Currently running a 4790k and a gtx 1080 so the performance bump is gonna be crazyyy. I'm so excited
Let me know because i have the same specs and like to upgrade as well :)
How is your rig?
I'm upgrading from a gtx 1650 so you can imagine my excitement
been a month with my new 7900xtx coming also from a gtx 1080. I'm just flipping dude
That is a huge upgrade and a high end build.
Here in Italy it's almost the same thing. 950€ for the cheapest XTX and 1180€ for the cheapest 4080 super.
Except 4080 Super isnt 1200. Its 1000 retail from lots of retailers.
Tbh I expected more for the 4080 super, but I'm glad that I went for 7900xtx instead
Give it a bit time, the card just got out, 7900XTX have more mature drivers being on the market longer time than fresh new 4080 Super.
@dennythescar80s8 that and if you want to turn on raytracing or think dlss is quite a bit better than fsr. I use dlss in every game that has it. Usually in quality or ultra quality but it looks really good now
@@veilmontTV Why buy a premium priced 4k card, just to play in 2k? I really dont understand..
@@dennythescar80s8given that the 4080 super is just a 4080 with a price cut I doubt we'll see any big driver uplifts.
Both cards represent a decent choice for the consumer. AMD card if you only care about raster or Nvidia card if you want RT/PT and better upscaling and frame gen. I'm a graphics snob so never even considered the XTX. Both are still 200 dollars too expensive though.
Here from the XTX vs 4090 video. Wow your videos are crispy AF. Great job and you got a subscriber. See you again soon.

My nitro+ runs well at these settings:
Base speed 3000mhz
Power + 15%
Voltage 1100mv
VRAM 2700mhz
Any further is possible depending but you have to unfortunately increase the voltage
Show me a 4080 Super OC doing 17K on Timespy Extreme. Or 32K in regular Timespy (Graphics score)@@stangamer1151
7900xtx inst over priced
i have it paired with a 7900xtx
with the 24gb vram, it is a monster
just that adrenaline is a shitty software
and i head that the nvidia one is worse
Rt is a joke
I gotta ask. If ur saying red dead 2 is 70% faster than a 4080 super why in the world would u leave that video out of this video and 2nd why are u testing it in Vulcan? Some of these tests just seem to be way out of line with what I see everywhere else. I've not ever seen 1 video where someone says the xtx is 70% faster nor 45% faster than a 4080 super in any Game. The closest I've seen to thos numbers is call of duty and everyone know cod favors amd heavily. But imo some of these are just sketchy
What's up with your red dead redemption benchmarks? Never seen such a big gap between amd and nvidia on other channels.

I'm guessing those other people have NVIDIA Super res on or a better performance resolution optimiser on which will likely favour NVIDIA or Reflex enabled. There's a ton of settings that would favour NVIDIA.

For same price the 4080 S is a no brainer. if 200€ diff then mby AMD
I have a 1080Ti running all the time and I pay around 10 dollars in electricity every 2 months :DDDD
There's a reason the XTX costed $200 less. At the same price or even within $50 the 4080 Super is by far the better choice.
Power consumption is identical for both GPU there is almost no difference
It only matters in 4k then you need a 4k monitor who games on 4k only
Over here the Xtx is 20~25% cheaper, making it a no-brainer.
The XTX price is very appealing, but it seems like the long term investment favours the 4080S, given the energy consumption difference. I'd probably end up spending the monetary difference on electricity while gaming alone, in less than a year. It's a lot of money that can go towards new high end card when the time comes. 7900 XTX if you do not care for ray tracing. However, I would prefer the 4080/super because of how well DLSS compared to FSR performs. Nvidia has me sold with their non-gaming features such as RTX voice, RTX super resolution and HDR feature as of recently.

RT and path tracing wont go mainstream until Nvidia 6000 series, or when new gen console truly support it. 7900 XTX will last until PS6.

So basically the 7900xtx if you care about performance at high res and if you care about ray tracing then get the 4080
Great review.
AMD is cool but i rather pay extra in the future and have DLSS, AI, Streaming on discord without stuttering and like every game comes with Nvidias latest dlss support and features..
and the fact that uninstalling amd adrenaline app and installing only drivers that are at least 3 months old cuz the newest once are always so bad is just ridiculous
great video!
Yeah i bought an amd 7900 XTX and i regret.
it is awesome , when it works.
Lots of Amd driver timeout issue
Amd isnt good with drivers.
7900 xtx currently experience lots of issues with DX 12 games
** Not all games **
7900xtx will last longer than the 4080 super since 16gbs might last only two to three years where as the 24gb 7900xtx should last at least five or more years potentially
For me RTX 4080 Super is exactly $1274 and for the RX 7900 XTX is exactly $1391 and given the performance i will be going with the RTX 4080 Super because it is cheaper and there isnt any noticeble difference.
why evga the only one that writes the full name of the GPU on the GPU like for example RTX 3080 all the others companies only just write GEFORCE RTX
I have never played any game and want opinions for getting them. Which method do you suggest for getting games?
Wait....when did the 4080 super cost under $1000?
Never but now its hitting the 1000$
I think both GPUs are top-notch, and you can't really go wrong with either.
I went with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and loving it. They make awesome GPUs, and DLSS helps performance a ton.
You can undervolt it
bought the Radeon 7900XTX Red Devil.
Probably a faulty card. In my experience, weaker brands have a much higher chance of being faulty because of crap quality control.
Get a sapphire 7900xtx
I got the nitro+ and saw a reddit post where someone explained how to disable ULPS on windows so the occasional driver time outs stop. Took me a few seconds, restart, no more issues whatsoever, never crashed any of my games (CP 2077, BG3, Star citizen, TLOU1, tekken 8 and many more). I believe its a windows issue, not a GPU issue.
I oc+ uv -ed my 7900xtx and it runs at 280-300W on full load while never getting hotter than 50C°. Insane card..
@@cjpp78ytubeI've had to RMA 2 sapphire XTX's in a row. I don't think amd has reliable card makers yet
Thanks Andy.
In Germany the 7900 XTX is a no brainer. 950€. The 4080 Super is at 1200€
This is must be the price at mindfactory right?😂 yea I got that sweet hellhound 7900xtx for just 949euro, great value for high end cards for me tbh
Ja LOL Macht kein sinn Nvidia
All the cards i see kost around 1000-1150 €
I had the 7900xtx but had to return it. I was having so many issues with stuttering and about 20% of the time I had a weird artifact problem when starting a game. This was on a new build. I am much happier with the 4080.
Sounds like you got a defective card, which brand was it?

What graphics card did you have befor it? Because if it was a nvidia gaphics card you have to get rid of the nvida drivers.
@@crazynat6165Oh I know. I learned my lesson a long time ago. I run DDU every time I change cards. I reseated the card and reinstalled the drivers 3 times. Even did a fresh windows install. After that I gave up. More than likely was a bad card out of the box.
4080 super is so disappointing, i expected a 10% perf increase but nope.
Yea would it been better to take 4090s that couldn't make the cut and call them 4080 super
I only play World of Warcraft (Wrath, SoD and retail), what card would you recommend for that? Playing on a 4k 144hz monitor…
3080-90, 4070/ti

Nvidia over AMD. I play WoW as well and there are so many driver crashes on my XTX that I wish I would have bought the 4080.
Honestly the 4080 is fast enoug in raster that it doesn’t matter, but big leads In raytracing and upscaling
Yep. Dlss in quality looks fantastic. I can’t say the same about fsr. That and the power efficiency made me decide the 4080s
I would say that the 4080 (super) is a great 1440p card in 21:9 which has more resolution than 16:9 but isn't quite 4k (21:9 1440p: 3440 x 1440 vs 16:9 1440p: 2560 x 1440 vs 16:9 'true' UHD/4k: 3840 x 2160)
DLSS and RT becomes actually pretty decent at that slightly below 4k resolution.

Happy to discuss more on our discord discord.gg/eTeknix
My opinion is: I don't care for those 5 games in the industry that have an RT option, I will never turn them on and lose a lot of FPS, but the truth is. The RTX 7900 XTX has 8GB more VRAM and 384 Bits and is more affordable, while the RTX 4080 Super has 16GB VRAM only and 256 Bits, for a num game workflow AMD, is the true winner BUT, if you are looking for Professional Workloads and IA Generators Locally, Nvidia is the only choice because all those professionals workloads loves CUDA Cores and AMD doesn't have it, which in my case is unfortunately since here in my country I can buy a card cheaper with 8GB VRam more and 128 Bits more, but I cannot buy it because doesn't have CUDA Cores.
yes its cheaper if you buy the brands that u dont see that much the good xtx are the same price as 4080 super

Got the Sapphire 7900xtx pulse for my new build. I cant be happier coming from Nvidia. The price to performance is so good.
Good review here, but throw in dlss, and dldsr, auto hdr and upscaling for videos and it pushes them further apart, i use all of those on my 4080.
How many of u actually own all the RT games listed in the video? Do mention the number
Not quite sure what you mean
Think on going with one this for my build . Since the prices of both them are between 1100 -1300 here in Portugal might jsut go with Nvidea tbh
Question did he use FSR3 for the 7900 xtx?
Nope
Oh wouldn’t that have closed down the margin in performance
But nvm thanks for this awesomevid
If we used fsr, then we’d have to use dlss to make it fair. We do have an upscaling video coming up soon though.

Does anyone know the performance differences for vr? That would be the one big decider for me
need to do this again with AIB gpus... noone is buying the ref 7900xtx due to its hotspot problems, they are also very hard to buy at least in the states

True mine pushes damn near 485 watts compared to 355 ref card I get a huge boost in frames compared to what I see others when doing these benchmarks makes me feel like I have a completely different card.
eTeknix : they don't come both at sub 1000 US dollars....they don't even come evenly priced at all....and the 7900 XTX is faster in rasterizing in absolutely every game at any resolution.

cheapest RTX 4080 Super = INNO3D GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER iCHILL X3 16GB = 1279 EUR (=1369 US dollars)
Where i live the rtx4080 super costs 999.- and the rx 7900 xtx 849.-
which would you buy?
7900xtx
I’ll take that back 4080 super cuz amd got so many driver issues nomore amd for me
$1000 for 4080 super - maybe in one country - USA, but the market is not limited to one country, in Europe the fees are higher and 1170 euro is the starting price in my country, but Europe is a target market for AMD and there are models even under 1000 euros for 7900 XTX
So in the future both will be even stronger
You went oh we see the bottleneck not be as bad at 1340p and 4k yet if you look at utilization the nvidia gpu is still being more limited that is why the results changed a bit.
Nvidia is just better at the future of gaming all of the latest games it plays better with all of the newer features. Period.
You should also test them now both have been upgraded with drivers. 4080 super has some nice chunky uplifts now. Latest one added another 6fps on alot of games for us.
Fun fact: A Rzyen 7 7700 works well with a rx 7900 xtx surprisingly (in 1440p and 4k not 1080p lol)
The 4080 super was on sale and was only a couple dollars more expensive when i bought my parts yesterday. I went with the 4080 because of it
With DLSS being so good, even better than native resolution is many cases, and FSR being so much worse I really think benchmarking Nvidia should always have DLSS on.
You can't really call a 30 game average of 3% with margin of error... Because you have games going all the way upto 30% faster?
Upscaling feature coming in the next week ;)
The dlss provides much better image quality compared to the fsr, is also the selling point for me.
The biggest crime is the 16GB on the rtx... The 9000 xtx is going to be great for AT LEAST 2 more years with 24GB.
I just want to run 4k 60 ultra path tracing with quality DLSS for under a grand 😢
RT wont go mainstream until Nvidia 6000 series, or when new gen console truly support it. 7900 XTX will last until PS6.
Why?
"Nvidia is the master of ray tracing"

Is it? I beg to differ. Strangely, the only game that can possibly answer that question definitively was left out: Avatar. Why? We know Avatar has RT baked into the game itself which means the developer would have had to optimize RT performance for both brands. That is not the case with other games.
Why not include DLSS and FSR in the tests as well? The quality of DLSS is very good nowadays, and I always enable it when available.
Separate series of videos on that coming up soon.
I just dont want my PC to be a space heater anymore, especially in the summer time.
Dlss off?
Testing raw performance where nvidia lose after turn all dlss RT and FG nvidia win with better video quality and better look on RT thats why im still nvidia fun and not amd
RX 7900 looks so smooth. I think it's the best-looking GPU. No RGB throw-up just stealth and smooth
lol, it’s founder’s edition
I cant discern between those blue nuances in the graphs ... In the future choose red and blue
Tried it and put a poll up a few months back. It looked awful and people hated it so we stuck with blue.
