    For me where I am the price is $950 for the 7900 XTX and $1,200 for the 4080 super.
    No matter which way you slice it the 4080 Super isn't $250 dollar better unless you're just a Cyberpunk,Allen Wake player and only care about RT in them games and don't ever play anything else.
    But at the end of the day get the GPU YOU want and can afford and be happy both are powerhouse cards that will give many years of 1440p and 4k max setting worth of gameplay.

      And don't ever play anything else ???? Why this conclusion. No i will Tell You If You wanna test every Ray tracing implementation on future games, If the games You play u see instability maybe u need dlaa. U have this anti aliasing method Best to date for the Best image quality u can get to date. And this is why u pay extra. And some users will pay extra for that.

    • @alkine3011
      @alkine3011 10 месяцев назад +7

      @pR0ManiacS Only Allen Wake 2 and Cyberpunk at 4k pushes the 7900 XTX down...I can run RT at 1440k Ultra on Cyberpunk and get over 60 frames of smooth gameplay...
      If you ONLY play them titles at 4k then the 4080S will be the way to go but all other RT games can be played with the 7900 XTX.
      I play mostly sim racing and online shooters which will NEVER have RT in them so for me getting the 4080 for more money is useless.

    One point that shouldn't be overlooked is overclocking. I've had both Reference and Nitro + 7900 XTX's, and the reference overclocked 10% over stock and the Nitro about 14-15% over reference stock. On the 4080's you're lucky if you get 5% extra, usually more like 3-4%

      Clocks depend on game/benchmark. On my overclocked Nitro I've seen up to about 3150 Mhz in game. But 3050 is more reallistic for stable OC. Some punishing benchmarks more like 2970 Mhz,@@Anonymous-g7f3m

      He is referring to the reference card where the base clock is 2300mhz and boost only 2500mhz. So in that case the nitro +has a base clock of 3000 mhz. The board partner model of the 4080 is almost on the max possible target. There is barely headroom for OC. No big difference between reference and board.
      My nitro+ runs well at these settings:
      Base speed 3000mhz
      Power + 15%
      Voltage 1100mv
      VRAM 2700mhz
      Any further is possible depending but you have to unfortunately increase the voltage

      I get the same 10% out of my non-OC 4070 Ti model. So I do not see any reason why 4080 Super is a worse overclocker. Unlike 7900 XTX, this card is somewhat limited by memory bandwidth, so overclocking VRAM alone will surely bring 5% improvement. Overcloking cores will result in another 5%.

      The 7900xtx is actually the worst card I have ever had the misfortune to overclock. You have to tune it on a game to game basis as the core clocks can change by almost 300mhz in certain loads. In 3dmark I could get the card to hold over 3ghz no problem but then I'd load up a game and anything over 2.7ghz would crash, then I'd play another game and 2.8ghz was the magic number before it crashed. There is zero consistency with the card and honestly unless you want to stress test every game then it's not worth overclocking. The 4080 Super on the other hand took me 10 minutes to dial in and has been a rock solid 2940mhz in every load. Overall the 4080 gets like 5-7% increase max i've seen was 11% and the AMD best case would get 0-12% depending on the load. Overall I'd say they have similar headroom but the AMD is just way too finicky for me to ever want to OC again.

      RX 7600 XT 16GB 23
      RX 7600 8GB 22
      As you can see, they all line up as you'd expect them to do so. Maybe the different people have it wrong but my data has been validated several times, retested and I record the number it spits out to me.
      I'm guessing those other people have NVIDIA Super res on or a better performance resolution optimiser on which will likely favour NVIDIA or Reflex enabled. There's a ton of settings that would favour NVIDIA.

They had an ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming OC for $1148CAD which was about $850USD. After verifying that it was still fully covered by ASRock's factory warranty, I pulled the trigger and it has had a home in my Server Supertower ever since.

    Many think the rx 7900xtx is better because it is cheaper and with more vram but as the technology moves ahead being a game designer myself I can say soon most games will come with Ray tracing as default and raw power wont be a thing..... Things like AI upscaling DLSS or FSR will become standard and not to forget the power consumption of the RTX card is way lower and with better performance in DLSS and RT for me the 200 dollars extra price tag is much more worth it. The only beef with 4080 super is the vram but I guess for most part atleast for a few years 16 GB will be more than enough for around 95% of the games. Just my take as an industry professional because it is much easier to light games using ray tracing than baking each light for rasterization so no designer or company ahead wants to spend time and money in baking lights just use ray tracing 1 click and realistic light no effort, and thats where I see the future game industry going. Great review. Honestly I feel the 7900 XTX is more future proof in the long haul thanks to the massive amount of ram on the card. Granted the 4080 handles ray tracing better but that's something that seems to still be in it's growing pain phase at the moment. Plus you can turn it off anyway. Games are using more and more ram these days so for the long haul I think the 7900 is the better bet.

    This was very comprehensive and quite surprising at times TBH. I had thought the 4080 Super would have had a bigger RT lead at all times than it (with a few exceptions such as outliers like Cyberpunk).
    If both GPUs were the same price as they basically are in the US, I think getting a 4080 Super is a no brainer if you vou play a lot of RT games. In the EU given that the 4080 Super pricing is now the same as the standard 4080 and in some cases €100 more expensive for the same brand of card. And you can get a higher end 7900XTX for €200-250 less than a 4080 Super, the Super becomes a much harder sell. The 7900XTX is basically in the same price bracket as the 4070 ti Super here. At around €1050. I think the 7900XTX is the better choice in this region, even if you like RT turned on.

      Nvidia takes a pretty significant lead in many other RT games, that were not tested here, like Avatar, Dying Light 2, Metro Exodus, Crysis, Returnal, Bright Memory, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Medium, Spider Man Miles Morales, SotTR, RTX Remix games etc. But it is just impossible to test every game.
      The gap between these two cards depends on how many and how intensive (resolution/quality) RT effects are in certain games.

    I think both GPUs are top-notch, and you can't really go wrong with either. The 7900 XTX is still pretty good even for Ray Tracing, although it's slower than Nvidia - might be worth a price difference if that's important to you. Games like Rachet and Clank really show a big gap, but not all Ray Tracing games are like that. Nvidia's still faster overall, just not as mind-blowing as in Rachet and Clank. There are only like 5-10 games where you'll see a massive difference, like even 30% or more.

    • @stangamer1151
      @stangamer1151 10 месяцев назад

      Nvidia also offers better upscaling/downscaling quality. DLSS Quality at 4K is almost free performance. And DLDSR does a great job in downcscaling 4K image to 1440p, unlike VSR. Plus, there is a difference in power efficiency. Taking into account all these factors, 4080 Super justifies it's small premium (if it is actually small, like less than $100).

    • @ALLInOne-vq5em
      @ALLInOne-vq5em 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@stangamer1151 If it is just $100, I wouldn't prefer AMD either. For instance, when I bought the RX 7900 XTX Red Devil for $900, the RTX 4080 was $1200. I think they will drop XTX to $800 or even $750; otherwise, for $100, I wouldn't prefer AMD because it doesn't justify only $100. Ray tracing itself can justify it, let alone power efficiency or other factors.I forgot to mention about this in my original comment.

It's so worth it if I don't have to deal with AMD driver crashing far too often.
      AMD drivers especially are awful. It's unacceptable for a $1,000 card, hell it's unacceptable even for a $300 card. They are similar performance but if I don't have to deal with driver crashing I'll spend $200 more for the same performance. But why would u buy such an expensive 4k card, just to be able to handle RT for the price of playing in 2K using DLSS? The 4080 is essentially a crazy overpriced 1440p card with a VRAM amount already being reached (and even surpassed with texture packs). I cant seem to find any sense behind that DLSS and RT argument. Paying a premium price just to use the card a tier below and running into VRAM problems in about 2-3 years maximum. Just seems like a horrible investment to me.
      Maybe with the next gen RT becomes a little more viable, but probably even more demanding or only accessable to 50-series cards, as typical for Nvidia. This gen I just dont see the 4080 being a good purchase, unless u plan to upgrade in just 2-3 years already, making it a shitty investment imo, cause almost any 4070 would have done the job for a way better price (or the 7900xtx and keep it for 5+years).

      I recently chose the 4080S over the 7900XTX mainly for the better RT performance, feature set and generally lower power draw. RT is the future and rasterization is handled well enough in relation to the 7900XTX. Whilst native rendering has its merits DLSS really allows graphical fidelity to reach amazing new heights in RT or even just rasterized rendering.

The RTX 7900 XTX has 8GB more VRAM and 384 Bits and is more affordable, while the RTX 4080 Super has 16GB VRAM only and 256 Bits, for a num game workflow AMD, is the true winner BUT, if you are looking for Professional Workloads and IA Generators Locally, Nvidia is the only choice because all those professionals workloads loves CUDA Cores and AMD doesn't have it, which in my case is unfortunately since here in my country I can buy a card cheaper with 8GB VRam more and 128 Bits more, but I cannot buy it because doesn't have CUDA Cores.

    Man I hate the GPU market! Here in Australia the 4080 Super is $1699 AUD (1138 USD) while the 7900XTX is only $1499 AUD (982USD). Seems like the 7900xtx might be the better option, but damn it hurts when I only paid 1200 AUD for my 3080 12GB.

    Correction, just because they are running at the same temperature, does not mean they are emitting the same waste energy as heat. I would assume due to the higher energy consumption the AMD card likely will dumb more heat energy into a room even if the measured temp of the card is the same.

    • @keldon1137
      @keldon1137 9 месяцев назад

      Isnt that obvious? U wont skip basic physics - more wattage, more heat, scales the same across the board, 100w product will emit half the heat of 200w product.

    • @ozymatic3291
      @ozymatic3291 9 месяцев назад

      100w product may admit more heat or less heat than a 200w (although your rule of thumb is not off it is an assumption), as heat is a waste product and a by-product of the efficiency of the processing. It is not necessarily a linear relationship.
      My point was comparing two cards at different power draws and saying because they are the same GPU temperature does not mean the waste heat will be the same.
      OC cards tend me be less efficient (as you push silicone harder efficiency or processing per watt will decrease, even if overall processing output is higher), so even if the cooler is maintaining the same temperature its likely dumping more waste energy into the room.
      Largely this is why I undervolt components as it improves efficiency and increases the processing per watt. Reducing waste heat generation.
      Truth is a lot of these cards have a huge margin of safety in for stability and longevity. So depending on the silicon lottery there is always room for optimisation and improved efficiency.
      Another way to look at this is a bronze vs gold rated PSU. Both may produce 1000W on the DC side but the bronze will draw 1200w from AC , whilst the gold may only draw 1100w. Both have the same output, but the bronze will dump an additional 100w of waste energy into the room.
      Again, bit of a generalisation but same rule of thumb.

    • @Greenalex89
      @Greenalex89 9 месяцев назад

      Well my OC-ed and undervolted 7900xtx nitro+ has a max draw of 300W while never crossing 50C°, fans not noticable. A ton of factors play a role and assuming that power draw is equivalent to heat production is naiv at best, considering the comparison of 2 different systems.

  • @reviewforthetube6485
    @reviewforthetube6485 5 месяцев назад +1

    Im shocked at the comments haha. It was back and forth the entire video and thats in raster. The 4080 super also won in most of the newer titles.
    Why would anybody choose a card with a very small rasterization difference across very few titles when you know what you xab do in the likes of alan wake and starfield and neer titles. Up to a 109% increase in performance with dlss3 and you can turn everyrhing on with it. That over turning down to 1440p to play in raster anyday of the week on the strongest titles out. Im sry but it shouldnt even be a question. You are getting much more tech with nvidia and pretty much identicla raster that you cqnt even notice just depends on the game. Sometimes 4080 super wins sometimes the 7900xtx wins.
    There is a reason why in rendering and any true procedsor from gpu task nvidia has such a massive lead. There proccesor is just better. They are using the future of gaming with techniques that do work and make gaming even further better at hifher resolutions where cards usually get hammered and arent fun to use there. What matters is the pc displays it and still feels the same as a native frame which is all that matters. You feel no difference in 120fps with dlss then 120fps native. None what so ever. And the 4k dlss is so so food that its way to close to raster to not account for. Its better looking then going back to native 1440p. So again why choose amd? Wouldnt you rsther game at 90 fps in alan wake with everything on instead of 40fps in 4k while having better results then 1440p natively in frames and in graphics? Yeah thinking about it that way may make you go wait thats true.
    Im going to always choose the card I can utilize every single setting with. That imo is the better card.
    Also remember bottlenecks are real and the 4080super gets more bottlenecked then the 7900xtx which should tell you alot. So in the future both will be even stronger
    You went oh we see the bottleneck not be as bad at 1340p and 4k yet if you look at utilization the nvidia gpu is still being more limited that is why the results changed a bit.
    Nvidia is just better at the future of gaming all of the latest games it plays better with all of the newer features. Period.
    You should also test them now both have been upgraded with drivers. 4080 super has some nice chunky uplifts now. Latest one added another 6fps on alot of games for us.

    In the UK the 4080 Super is still at £1050, whilst I can find an RX 7900XTX for £900, the 7900XTX will be the card I’ll be going for in my first desktop build, currently I’m running a 4060 Laptop with a Ryzen 7 7735HS, it’s a good little laptop for £1366 and I’m happy how it performs at 1080p, but I want to use some heavier mods and wanna start gaming at 1440p/4K, I’m not too worried about Ray Tracing since if you wanna run ray tracing at 4K with 60FPS, you’re gonna need a 4090 for that, and I’d just rather buy another whole ass car for that money 😂

  • @edwardshepherd9684

    I enjoyed your video today but as always there could be some real world difference between these 2 cracking cards, I would be interested to know what monitor you used in these tests, a lot of people won’t be making desicions correctly based on these tests, if someone has a 60hz 4K monitor then a lot of these tests won’t matter as both cards would be very evenly matched in terms of raw power, and so the cost would make a difference. Could you test these cards with 2 different monitors or different refresh rates and connections via display ports and hdmi as this would help more people narrow down the differences.
    I’m not a fanboy and enjoy all graphics cards but most of all I like to pay less for more or is that more for for less 😂

If I buy a high end card I want it to last 4-5 years at least, without being limited. I disabled ULPS in windows (saw a reddit post, takes 1 minute) and had 0 driver timeouts ever since. Undervolted and OC-ed the card so it runs at 300W max load without performance loss while being silent and super cool, never crossing 50C° in my Fractal torrent case. Im blown away by this card. The quality is worth the extra money imo.

      @@RightSide-e1s Not to mention that in some games, there are better mods for non ray tracing games, too. Resident Evil 2 Remake is a perfect example. Sure, after lots of testing, ray tracing looks better. But I totally agree that everyone has different wants and needs. In RE2 Remake, it's either better mods without ray tracing, or bad mods with ray tracing. To make it even worse, some mods for ray tracing don't even work. I prefer better mods for the replay value.

    I think its important to remember that no gamer ever woke up and said I am not playing anymore games until we have raytracing.... The reality is hardly anyone cares about it and while I am not a fan of AMD stuff (Always seems below the current standard albeit at a reasonable price to performance ratio) I can't help but look more seriously at their graphics cards when Nvidia are bending the customer base over with their ridiculous prices. Why would anyone pay 2k for a 4090 (and I appreciate we are looking at the 4080 Super here) when an entire new PC with everything else in total costs the same and just takes PC gaming outside the realms of possibility for most. On top of this Intel seem to have screwed the pooch seriously in this latest drop of technology too. So perhaps its AMD's time to get some custom, lord knows while my last 5 GPUs have been Nvidia and my last 4 CPUs have been intel I am seriously considering switching over at this point.

    Did you test in both cards with 200% of render image quality in settings? I have a RTx 7900xtx and when I put in 200% of render the 24 GB of VRAM supports without problems, but when I do it the same in RTx 4070 ti (12 GB of VRAM), this card exceeds the limit and has a dramatically falls in the FPS. Obviously, to do this in both cards I use a power supply of 1000 watts. I notice that in several comparisons in RUclips, no one changes that settings. Why?

    Is it? I beg to differ. Strangely, the only game that can possibly answer that question definitively was left out: Avatar. Why? We know Avatar has RT baked into the game itself which means the developer would have had to optimize RT performance for both brands. That is not the case with other games.

    Just bought a PNY 4080 Super and replaced my XFX 7900 XTX. The 7900 XTX gets like 5-10 FPS more in some titles, but the 4080 Super is a much better card overall. Games just seem a lot smoother, the Nvidia goodies (RT, additional graphics in games like Batman Arkham Knight, DLSS) are true game changers. Nvidia drivers look outdated (and basically are). but they just work. Another bonus is the PNY 4080 Super is so much quieter than the XFX 7900 XTX and the power supply is a lot less taxed due to the efficiency. I simply refuse to pay $2000 for a video card, or I would have gone 4090. For those on the fence, hard to recommend the 7900 XTX considering the price is almost the same.

    So if anyone would be behind it's, nvidia. They can't even think of giving their customers premium builds. You're going to pay more for a card that if they wanted, they could blow away AMD just by adding more ram. I came from nvidia to amd for that reason. I just don't think investing money into a company that wants you to pay more because that's what they want you to do and let's not forget all the third party card builders they've cut out too that we all loved because of greed.
