In Newfoundland, at the easternmost tip of North America, the landscape is pristine, dramatic, and very sparsely populated. In summer, icebergs occasionally drift along the steep cliffs. When the "Titanic" collided with an iceberg and sank just 300 miles off the coast of Newfoundland in 1912, the last radio messages were picked up in a small wooden hut on the Avalon Peninsula.
Today, most Newfoundlanders live on Avalon. There are particularly many seabirds here. In Witless Bay, the newborn puffins are ready for their first descent into the Atlantic. But some stray onto the coastal road, attracted by the lights of the hotels and restaurants. In doing so, they run the risk of being run over. A team of volunteers saves the lives of countless young birds: The Puffin & Petrel Patrol goes out at night dressed in high-visibility vests to collect the puffins. Biologist Sabrina Wilhelm then brings them back to Green Island, home to the largest puffin colony in North America. Here, the birds catch up on what they should have done long ago: the first dive of their lives.

I love Newfoundland!! I moved to St. John’s in 2015. I’ve been working my butt off ever since to maintain a life here. My adult daughter eventually decided she wanted to build a future here with me too. My life finally feels complete! What a precious life🙂✨
Awesome!
Wonderful. I’m glad your home. I’m from just outside St. John’s. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Doing what..Tell us in your youtube channel...lol

That’s beautiful 😊
Newfie here. After working in Ontario Canada, Cincinnati Ohio, Nashville Tennessee, Huntsville Alabama, and Juarez Mexico, for me Newfoundland tops the charts for beauty, friendly people, and uniqueness. We seemed to have kept more of the old Irish, English, Portuguese, French, dialect and culture. More Irish and English than the rest. In fact there are several different dialects in Newfoundland; you would think you’ve gone to another province. Worth the visit!!!
Newfies are my favorite Canadians! I was born in Jamaica and live in Toronto and all the Newfoundlanders I've met have been the BEST. We are so alike in many ways. I hope to visit soon. 🇯🇲🇨🇦
I'm from BC and Newfies are my favourite too. Cape Bretoners are a close second...we met in the oil patch and they are the very best kind!
And welcome!
Thanks to whoever made this documentary for showcasing our beloved province and the characters of the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who call this place home. We love visitors and will go above and beyond being kind to anyone needing help. If anyone is interested in another documentary search up "Come from away" it's a Broadway musical based around what happened on 9/11 when the town of gander and surrounding towns took in 3,000 people bound for the US. It's a very moving story, and shows the best part of the human spirit that can shine though the world may be mourning.
Good to see such a beautiful place among this beautiful world
I have lived here all my 57years and I never take any of it for granted! I tell my kids you live in the best place on earth so you should appreciate it every day. It is true that the weather is the most challenging but boy when we get a really nice day the feeling here is palpable. I have visited many places that have excellent weather and when you meet people on the street and say "what a nice day" they look at you kind of strange. So if you decide to live here don't let the weather dictate your plans too much. You have to embrace every day with a smile, humor and of course good clothes. Lol. Stop and smell the fresh salt air, fog, mist, drizzle, rain, snow, freezing rain, hail, ice pellets, graupel and lots of wind! Never a dull moment here. There are a couple of sayings here like "if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes, it will change" or "if you don't like the weather out the front door, check the back door!" The capital city of St. John's did have the distinction as the foggiest, windiest, rainiest and the snowiest in Canada. I don't know if that still holds true with climate change but we're right up there! Lol. Come visit you won't be disappointed. Better still come live here. You will really love it and embrace every scenic moment! I have to go now there is a whale in my backyard.
Mexican-American here that can proudly say now I’m a proud “Newfie” best lace on earth, these is the place where my children who also love Newfoundland will lay to rest. Great people, great place, we need more jobs here but still wouldn’t trade it!!
I moved away from NL two years ago after never leaving the island before. Once that lady said "I've seen beautiful places but nothing this this" Really hit me. I miss my home so much
3yrs to go and I leave Springfield Missouri and will live out the remainder of my life a half hr from anywhere...
Newfoundland and Labrador!!!
Was born there Will live there Will die there......
Im so excited!!!!!!!
My wife and I spent 2 fantastic weeks on "The Rock". Lots of history, beautiful scenery, and absolutely wonderful people. We'll be back for sure! Many thanks to all the locals - even the car rentals folks at the airport in St. John's - for making our time in Newfoundland so memorable. Al McCalder
Newfoundlander here. I've lived and worked in just about every province in Canada. I have to be honest, once the plane landed on the island, and I stepped out into the fresh salty air, I finally felt home. ❤
Wonderful!
I wonder how people move that easy I sadly feel I am like a tree with roots and I am not familiar with moving at all I am surely not happy with myself 🤦
So happy for you. You are living your dream.
Am from Jamaica my partner is from Newfoundland , the most beautiful place in Canada, we live in Toronto area, I have been there so many times, am in love with Newfoundland I want to move there but he doesn't want to. Newfoundland is part of my heart, the people they are so nice they grace and embraced you with pure and true Love. 🇯🇲 🇨🇦
He'll find his way sometime my dear, when he's dunrovin.
Obviously you’ve never been to BC. If you think Newfoundland is beautiful think again.
@@waynemerlo7448 Newfoundland is easily top 3 most beautiful place in Canada. I’d say number 2 behind BC
@@User6682user I’ve been to both and Newfoundland just can’t compare with BC. It’s simply not in the same league in natural beauty or when it comes to amenities and weather. BC’s population is around ten times that of Newfoundlands and there are many good reason’s for that. Unfortunately BC is far more expensive to live or purchase property. That is the one area where Newfoundland would have the edge.
@@waynemerlo7448 not doubting that everyone knows BC is the most beautiful place in the county. im just saying if you had to rank them all NL in my view would be top 3 or top 2.
I moved to Newfoundland from Toronto over a month ago and I am loving it!
Welcome :)
Not tough competition coming from TO! Good on you, you're as smart as can be!
How's the job market over there? is the better or same as Ontario?
Of course you would love it diverse is great right ..the Chinese are moving into Canada communist
And I came from Ukraine three months ago it’s something amazing
I miss my home province so much especially when I see such great documentaries such as this. Wonderful people and a wonderful province. I’m proud to call myself a Newfoundlander!
I am a Newfoundlander and I so wish I knew all this earlier in my life. I thoroughly enjoyed every second and will definitely watch again and again
I worked with two gentlemen from newfoundland in Ontario,I'll never forget those guys and their beautiful big newfoundland dogs Whiskey and Molson.
Love living in Newfoundland, been here 25 years and don’t ever plan on leaving ❤️❤️
Yes a very cheap place to live not like BC or Ontario.
does'nt the weather there suck though? especially that infamous notorious wind?
Lived in St. Anthony when I was a child and went back to visit the province in 2019 and travelled all over. The people are the treasure, the scenery is stunning and the food is amazing - typical east coast hospitality.
Born n raised in st.johns.....just wish those that do documentaries like this would learn how to pronounce newfoundland correctly
Amen.
Newfinland.
@@driftindriftwood7301 ....close but alot people think it be called new-finland ....I prefer newf-ah-land ..keeps it simple for people 😅
Very special to see ‘Newfy’, where a very special friend I met in Mexico, where we lived, was born…she was lovely & very shy! 🌈👼🌈
I'm glad that Newfoundland is my home province. Happy to live and enjoy the beauty and nature of the Rock.
I live in the US but would love to live in a place like this.
We just moved from Europe to St. John's and we're loving it.
Great! Pay your taxes. The majority of us here need money in the public coffers. Welcome!
@@christopherwelch136 Sure. After a year and a half in without Daycare and some bureaucratic hurdles in obtaining permanent residency because I fly in and out for work and still pay huge taxes to the province, we have one leg out already. We are taking the taxes to a province where we can secure our long term future.
If you are from another country and you move here, respect our culture, our province, our people, and our way of life.
Kanada is my dreamland.. what a beautiful people.. a beautiful scenery.. a beautiful land!
You mean Canada? tf
Honor to traditions and rituals of the community as they keep family values and maintain the skills of different kinds! At least the humor is the most beautiful trait of the people on the islands!
What an absolutely beautiful tribute to my homeland ❤️
It's so awesome seeing channels like this do videos about a small place like Newfoundland. I'm quite happy to call this place home.
My father fell head over heels for a woman from Newfoundland. Been together for over 20 years. And she is one of the coolest people I have ever met.
Hello 👋how are you doing?
As a new retired I really thinking about moving to Newfoundland and enjoy the nature with a nice horse 🐎 no cars anymore for me 😊
Nothing at all like this wonderful place of scenery& the people who live there...miss my beauty Home❤
Some of the best ppl I've met have been from Newfoundland great ppl great hospitality 🇨🇦❤️ Migwech 😉
My Dad was a merman so this hits home.
My grandfather hailed from Jersey Side, Placentia. His father was a schooner captain. After surviving a hurricane he decided to never go to sea again. He shipped out at fifteen to the States . He raised me during WWII as my father served in the Pacific. Once home two sisters came along so I was shipped downstairs . Gramps and I became bunk mates. Dad worked day and night so Grampa raised me . I took him home in 1975 … it broke his heart…not a boat in the harbor. When he passed away…well…he never left me.
I'm a chick forest technician from French Canada 🇨🇦, our family house was on Cunard St., mom married a French sailor! 🎶 It's a world gone crazy keeps a woman in chains, love from Montreal! 🎶
Yep always want to visit that and Labrador. Insanely beautiful.😸
Amazingly captures 👍
I took a train from Toronto to Truro Nova Scotia, took a bus to North Sydney and caught the ferry to Port of Basques.
I hitch hiked from Port of Basques to Botwood. Around 1984. I met so many friendly people.
I was introduced to Newfie Screech. I had the best time. I will return one day.
As a long time sub of the channel, and a Fellow Newfie thanks for sharing this,
Thank you for taking the time to stop to let us know long-time sub!
I love dis video. I was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland but doesn’t most of me life on the mainland all over from Halifax, Nova Scotia to where I live now Camrose, Alberta. Really miss back home.
Beautiful! 👍🐧
Looks fantastic!
well that took an unexpected turn... see ya...
A very cool view, my friend..🇲🇨🇲🇨🙏🙏👍❤️❤️
I'm on Vancouver Island and I'd rather be there
Beautiful! Thank you!!! )
I am from the uk. I randomly searched on this place after the story of that submarine that got lost near titanic. Wow. Such a wonderful place. Everyone looks so content and happy and such a marvelous sense of community. I wish i was born there. Life would have been better.
EdiT: Not overly keen on all that mermaid nonsense though. 😅
if your from the uk then you should know the people from NL came from the uk ? like scotland , ireland, england, my ancesters are from scotland.
Most of us are English or Irish or Scottish or welsh . Our accents still reflect it in some ways . A lot of people from Britain still move her annually. One of our biggest radio hosts here is English
I'm from Newfoundland and have always wanted to live in England. You are so lucky to live there with so much history. I've never seen a man made structure over 200 years old.
Not keen on the mermaid "nonsense" clearly means that it's a damn good thing you're not in newfoundland. "Everyone is content and happy" then goes on to spew this true poisoning nonsense and hatered. Cheers.
'Hatred' is a bit strong. But fair enough.
To our far flung friends… this is a place so tough it inspired gentleness in it people and their perilous life style, the local inhabitants still make it so warm and welcoming!
I love my island so much. Both sides of my family have been here for many generations.
great documentary,i wish to visite Newfoundland
Have not had the privilege of sailing to Newfoundland, but hope to do so soon.. ⛵️ Great job on the documentary ❤
I originate from one of the oldest lines of Colonial settlers. Good or bad. I am a proud Islander and love my country of Newfoundland.
You do know Newfoundland is not a country right?
Depends on who you talk to LOL. @@jaimefewer6297
Sooo nice and beautiful i love it
It was so nice to see my hometown of New Perlican, Trinity Bay at the 35:18 mark for a few minutes. The documentary was very well done.
I was born in St. John's, but we moved away when I was just a baby.
I have never been back, but I would love to visit one day.
Added to my bucket list !!!!!!
Im a proud Newfoundland'er, and I just have to say "what in merman is going on? 17:06 !However Leo is the epitome of a Newfie.
After living close to DC, fun loving people sounds so good. Hate big congested city. But I don’t like the cold.
Majestic
I hope I can fulfill my dream one day and study there. It's an astonishing island😍
Newfoundland, we love you
I wanna to go to Newfound and Labrador❤️
I was born on NFLD, over 60 yrs ago.
Before I was 10 days old, we returned to The United States. I’ve been back about a dozen times.
There are 200+ yrs of family history on the rock. The monuments in St Johns are testament to this.
These ladies are awesome
The only thing missing would be a Jersey milk cow or two in the pasture. Day dreaming as a kid 60 years ago . and the home made bread. Nobody could make home make bread like Mom
British Columbias coast is absolutely spectacular as well.
Nice video but wanted to see more nature, mountains ,water, beautiful houses, birds, fish not the people interviews 👍
Thumbs up on the puffins.
Thumbs down on the male mermaids.
I’m a Newfoundlander . Shoutout to Vinland saga
how about One of Canada's most beautiful coastlines.
I've always wanted to go! I never met a Newfie l didn't love! From Ontario xo
What a great program👍👍👏🏻👏🏻 Thank yo for uploading. I will be visiting Newfoundland in sept with my mum and sister. We are staying 1 week in St John’s. My mum met her dad in St Johns for the first time in august 1945, he was a norvegian consul and northraship representative during ww2. Love from Norway🇳🇴
Our gray jays are the best birds ever
I must have one of those calendars! What a fantastic idea, and for a worthy cause. Good on ya gents!
I'd love to visit Newfoundland some day, and maybe I'll go in August to help rescue puffins. I'm from Ontario and I've never seen puffins other than photos and on TV. They are beautiful birds.
If you do go, please let us know how it goes! We’d love to hear from you!
Love Leo.
Lovely
"An" island on the Eastern coast. Love, PEI.
Very nice show!!! I find it funny that so many people can't pronounce Newfoundland correctly :)
For some context, just the Island part of Newfoundland is close to the size of Scotland - though there's a whole other bigger chunk of the _Province_ of Newfoundland (called 'Labrador') that is on the mainland, east of the Province of Québec.
15.7.2022.This video already upload in free high quality documentary.
What a beautiful place. Thank you for a wonderful show.
Beautiful program but, just a few small things. It’s pronounced New-finned-land with the accent on land. Newfinned-land (understand?) haha. The other thing… there is so so so much more to NL than the Avalon Penninsula. Central, The Loop, South Coast, West Coast and the great Northern Penninsula. Please come back and film some more.
Looks like a wonderful place. The picnic idea is so clever! I would love to buy one of those calendars, but I don't see a link to buy them online?
Lovely 🥰

Actually the population of St. John’s is over 150 thousand
my parents granparents even great granparents are buried on newfoundland my mother called it the rock and said we were newfies.
Yerp…. I’m certified at collecting baby birds and feeding them to other birds later but my passion is tape measure avoidance as well as being the official holder-of-the-cod.
Also my dad’s a mermaid.
The work of Parker and Stone makes sense now. LOL.
This is titled as a documentary of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador however this video only presents the tip of the iceberg. Pardon the pun. There is so much of Newfoundland was not included. Way of the mark, very sad.
The male mermaids were a fat waste of time.
Guy definitely didn’t need the megaphone to talk to 5 people lmao
After a while it is just trees and rocks when you live here.
Oh my I never see someone torture the fish like that. Teaching others too to do so.😮💨
