Motor, tear it down, clean up the motor, put some 3-1 oil on the bearings, top and bottom, spin them a bit by hand work it in, clean as you go and see if it helps, if not, look at your fans or some new bearings. After 20+ years and heat the fantoms produce, theyve gotta be dry.

That's horrible to hear. Maybe somehow the bearings in the motor got dry and may need to be taken apart in order for the motor to be rebuilt
