    Excellent video! I have been to four of Harald's camps and with each camp I experienced a marked improvement in my skiing. Prior to the camps I read (watched) and reread (rewatched) his books and videos and started doing the drills he recommended which prepared me for his camps. If you want to become an advance/expert skier, read his books and analyze his videos, work on the drills and take one or more camps. If you do not want to self teach by doing the drills on your own, go directly to the camps.

    I apologize for the quality of the footage, this video is one I reintroduced that was filmed 9 years ago before 4K. If you play it on a smaller screen the image is better.

    Damn Harald I’m still in golf mode here in the great state of NH, but watching this video gets one pumped up for skiing. Well done

    Good tips! I'd consider myself an expert but I learned a few small things that I could improve on, thanks for this detailed explanation on what makes good carving turns

    Thanks, Harald! Hope I'll be able to try that this winter.

    Making the transition from snowboarding to skiing and this was very helpful! My first time out on skis I was really pushing the outside leg to initiate the turn, and am glad that’s now how it’s done :)

    I do love to watch Harold ski and have worked on adapting to his technique. Having skied most of my life I am still learning and practicing at the age of 71 years old. I believe the term advanced is a more accurate description for many good skiers. It has been my experience that since I retired and started skiing full time at Alta, UT my skiing has improved. Being able to ski in the type of terrain and conditions that Harold describes and skis at the beginning of his video has made a big difference. If you get to ski steep, deep and varied conditions on a regular daily basis you will improve more that if you only experience those conditions on a short vacation once a year. Also skiing with people that use good ski technique like Harold teachers will help your progress. Skiing with good skiers on challenging terrain and conditions has helped my progress. I should include watching Harold ‘s videos and practice have been important factors.

    Thanks Harald! Is the concept the same for wider skis? Mine are 108 underfoot

    • @skiwhh
      @skiwhh  4 года назад +2

      Yes it is, however on the wide ski you need more speed and early tipping angles while the skis are light in transition. Once the wide skis are pressured they are really hard to tip to big angles, especially on hard snow.

    Do you give that little push on the outside ski at the end of the turn to get good rebounce?

    • @skiwhh
      @skiwhh  4 года назад +3

      The main thing about the point just before the release you want to achieve first is a super firm edge hold. If you achieve this, the push will depend on terrain, steepness and snow condition. Ideally, yes, you can add a push (short and quick) just before you react your skis or flex the leg. This requires exceptional timing or you could do more damage to the turn than good.

    "by letting the center mass move to the inside", is a wonderfully helpful phrase. Thanks Harald.

      Thanks, I'm debunking all of the misinformation and only giving out what my experience in skiing and coaching some of the best skiers of all time taught me.

    How fast are you moving when doing these tipping drills?

    • @skiwhh
      @skiwhh  4 года назад +1

      About 30mph.

  • @jos_gr7609
    @jos_gr7609 4 года назад

    Its all about the inside leg, overcome the A-shape and you get to ski for a change ..........

  • @briancollins6192
    @briancollins6192 4 года назад

    Great demo and excellent breakdown! One thing to caution for skiers within the upper intermediate range when trying this is as you are shortening the inside leg be sure that you are continuously directing pressure to the outside ski.. I could definitely see some skiers attempting this for the first time focusing so much on the inside ski they inadvertently end up directing pressure to that ski.

    • @skiwhh
      @skiwhh  4 года назад +2

      The movement teaching of this skiing is focused on keeping the inside ski light on the snow, by retracting the leg and ski, so it doesn't get weighted.
