Since watching WML on YT this past year, Arlene has become my role model. She was full of charm and grace and yet cheeky too. But she knew how to mange people. A beautiful lady. I adore Dorothy Killgallen too. Beautiful clever women. Rest in power lovely ladies. ❤❤
Honestly, they are two of the classiest, wittiest, and most charming people. I adore them both and admire their friendship immensely. Thank you so much for compiling this; it was a joy to watch!
When I looked up Arlene Francis on Wikipedia some time ago and learned she was born way back in 1908(!!!) I immediately thought, “She could have been my grandma!” …and then how I wished it had been so!!! She would have been a delight and a joy! So much fun!!!
Some people should live forever and be eternally lovely and witty and charming. And Arlen Francis and John Daly ehould be right up there at the top of the list.
Thank goodness for RUclips! The original WML serves as a time capsule of wit, show business and changes in fashion. WML is still a joy to watch. Thank you, Paula.😷👍
Agreed. Amazing how well this show holds up today. And Arlene was remarkable at sniffing out the contestants. A remake of this show would probably fail, because it would be impossible to match the chemistry and brains of these two lovely people.
@@tomsmith7742 I think the intelligence of this game show - the thing that sets it apart - would be the thing that would be its demise today. We've dumbed down society to such a degree that anything considered "smart" seems to equal "boring" for most people. It's incredibly disheartening.
Didn’t hurt that everyone was classy and respectful. And John never lied to them out right he’d lead them down trails that were faults. But he also sided with the contestant to try to help them win and have fun.
It's a great compilation that truly shows the unique friendship between two classy people, Arlene Francis and John Charles Daly. I just hope you make next compilation on Dorothy's extreme wit and intelligence, Bennett's remarks on opposite sex contestants, or Fred's dry jokes, and also some witty comments made by Steve. All of them are my favourite. I watched them over and over every years.
This ignores the terrific contribution, wit, brains, and determination to get the answer, for Dorothy Kilgallen. Less than 2 years after her tragic death, the show was canceled. This was no coincidence! I also have to add Steve Allen and Bennett Cerf for rounding out the best game-show panel in tv history. John C. Daly, was the best host. All together, the finest game show tv has ever enjoyed! It had everything! Fun, intelligence, wit, famous special guests, and many surprises to try to fool the panel! Never surpassed or even remotely approached as a game show. R.I.P., "What's My Line?", 17 (1950-1967).
Thank you for your opinion, nevertheless this does not ignore Miss Kilgallen's contribution in any matter, this compilation just is not dedicated to her, as the title of this video indicates this fact.
Thank you very much for making and uploading this great video! It would be even better if the music were a bit lower bc. as it is it makes it harder for non native speakers to understand everything.
Thank you ✨😉 unfortunately after posting it I can't do anything in this matter but in later videos I think I learned my lesson - music is used more reasonably. As for my excuse I can only say it was my first video ever and thought it would be nice but it turned otherwise unfortunately. I'm sorry.
That was my first compilation ever and for me it's alright, but as I published it, it turned out not so great for some viewers as you said yourself. Maybe in the future I'll do a second edition with reduced number of music bits. Making dialogs hard to understand/hear was never my intention although it may seem so, I'm sorry.
I had to stop watching around the minute and a half point. Not sure why a video like this needs a musical score and accompaniment, but...Paula I know you think this enhances the viewing, but I'm afraid that it only distracts - so much so that I just had to stop watching because I found it hard to concentrate and even hear what was being spoken. Sometimes when you're a cook in the kitchen, you just sometimes add yet another spice and end up ruining the dinner. This video would stand on its own without any music.
Also ... on the other hand - the music is actually quite nice in isolation. I would gladly listen to it without the What's my Line Distraction in the background. Oil is nice on its own. Water is also nice on its own. Unfortunately, you mix the two and its just annoying
I am looking for the right characterisation of Daly: maybe a mixture of vanity, narcissism and an element of dominance, for sure someone who wanted and needed to be noticed. Edit: smug, the word to describe him is smug.
Daly was known for his vicious temper and was known to put poor Dorothy "No Chin" Kilgallen in headlocks before the show. Professional curmudgeon Henry Morgan made fun of Bennet Cerf on live TV once and Daly punched him in the nuts backstage. He also ordered the execution of Fred Allen in 1956 because the latter owed the former $5 in gambling debts.
She was probably the most intelligent, witty, classy and just overall amazing woman every to have been on television.
In addition to Dorothy, who liked the girls, and Arlene, who couldn't keep her eyes from the up and down of the boys.
I always loved the way she smiled with her eyes
Me too. I said that years ago.
Yes, you really don't see celebrities doing that anymore. They're all so deathly afraid of getting crows'-feet and laugh lines.

A brilliant show that was made when intelligence and good manners were valued.
Even now they feel like friends and they are still here. Even though they are not

Beautifully put.
This montage of memories was superbly coalesced.
The verbal duel between these two is one of the major attractions of the show.
I love Arlene Francis...
Beautifully crafted; the classiest of panel shows.
Thank you so much :)

Arlene was one of the most graceful agers I've ever seen. More beautiful in her latter years than many women are in their former.
They made some really risque jokes for the 50's and 60's, i love it
Loved that everyone, including the audience, sang Happy Birthday to Arlene
😮Thank you so much for throwing this together 😊 My Arlene for Ever❤
Arlene Francis was simply devine.

This was the most intelligent game show ever created and it's all due to the panel and Mr. John Daly.

Arlene....a most beautiful, witty and charming lady.
I agree ! Miss Francis defined genuine beauty and class. What a thrill to have seen her on stage and tv.
This was a lovely tribute, though it also made me a little sad knowing they've all passed from this plane.
Arlene Francis was a class act. And beautiful. And funny.
And I wasn't even born yet when she appeared early on.
I'm 62. ;-)

How could you leave out Arlene’s (or any panelist’s) greatest question of any mystery guest: Do you have blond curly hair?

Do we have to have the added piano track? Really?
