  • A tribute to a great friendship of Arlene Francis and John Charles Daly seen onscreen on What's my line? (1950-1967).
    Epitome of intelligence, wit, humor, respect on (then) TV.
    I just have to ask you for your understanding and even this being my first video ever won't do the trick. I'm aware now that there's too much music which also is too loud making it almost impossible for some of you to watch video comfortably.
    I'll try to do a second edition of this with greatly reduced amount of music in the future.

      @tomsmith7742 2 года назад +3

      Agreed. Amazing how well this show holds up today. And Arlene was remarkable at sniffing out the contestants. A remake of this show would probably fail, because it would be impossible to match the chemistry and brains of these two lovely people.

    • @dariawells7438
      @dariawells7438 2 года назад +3

      @@tomsmith7742 I think the intelligence of this game show - the thing that sets it apart - would be the thing that would be its demise today. We've dumbed down society to such a degree that anything considered "smart" seems to equal "boring" for most people. It's incredibly disheartening.

    This ignores the terrific contribution, wit, brains, and determination to get the answer, for Dorothy Kilgallen. Less than 2 years after her tragic death, the show was canceled. This was no coincidence! I also have to add Steve Allen and Bennett Cerf for rounding out the best game-show panel in tv history. John C. Daly, was the best host. All together, the finest game show tv has ever enjoyed! It had everything! Fun, intelligence, wit, famous special guests, and many surprises to try to fool the panel! Never surpassed or even remotely approached as a game show. R.I.P., "What's My Line?", 17 (1950-1967).

    I had to stop watching around the minute and a half point. Not sure why a video like this needs a musical score and accompaniment, but...Paula I know you think this enhances the viewing, but I'm afraid that it only distracts - so much so that I just had to stop watching because I found it hard to concentrate and even hear what was being spoken. Sometimes when you're a cook in the kitchen, you just sometimes add yet another spice and end up ruining the dinner. This video would stand on its own without any music.

    • @galileocan
      @galileocan 3 года назад +3

      Also ... on the other hand - the music is actually quite nice in isolation. I would gladly listen to it without the What's my Line Distraction in the background. Oil is nice on its own. Water is also nice on its own. Unfortunately, you mix the two and its just annoying

    Daly was known for his vicious temper and was known to put poor Dorothy "No Chin" Kilgallen in headlocks before the show.
