To be fair theirs no such thing as fair use when something is trademarked or copyrighted. Etsy will not take copyrighted or trademarked material down on their own. The company or persons who owns the copyright or trademark has to be the one that reports your shop. A random person on Etsy reporting you to Etsy for copyright won’t get your shop shut down unless that person owns the copyright.

Taxidermists strictly only get animal bodies from animal shelters, pet stores, etc of animals that have naturally passed away. Mice and rats are often easy to get and taxidermy since they have such a short life span in shelters, etc.
Taxidermy is stuffed, preserved animals, it's been a thing like forever. It is legal..its more illegal to send certain animal pelts un taxidermed honestly.

I mostly see the whole head or antlers on the wall or just a pelt or a pelt with the skull still in it. Pretty much all my relatives in Saskatchewan are hunters. Nobody I know in Alberta are hunters but there are definitely some here. She lives in Toronto if I remember correctly so there wouldn't be a lot of hunters in the city. Most hunters would be in western Canada, especially Alberta and Saskatchewan, and up north. I've never been out east but I assume hunting is less common there since it's more industralised/population concentrated

Most are *not* pets. In fact most "traditional" taxidermists will not work on pets. Taxidermy was originally (and still mostly is) a way for hunters to preserve their trophies/big game (my uncle was a professional taxidermist/my sister and I collect antique taxidermy). Over the last decade (though it's always existed to a small exent) has been a movement called "neo-taxidermy" which is focused on creating more niche pieces (like the mice seen in the video, or historically pieces like the "jackalope" were commonly found as gags/jokes in many studios). However that is a very small part of what taxidermy is. Also many of the niche pieces like the mice are purchased from pet stores already deceased and frozen (they are sold as snake food, so yes, somewhere along the supply chain someone is breeding and killing them for profit just not for taxidermy). Roadkill/found carcasses can also be used, and is a common choice for those first learning the craft. And while a small minority will taxidermy their pets, it is frowned upon. Especially domestic animals like cats and dogs (though it certainly happens).

Crushed Velvet in the community I’m in, taxidermy of domestic pets is definitely not frowned upon, in fact people who can taxidermy a pet are highly respected as it is really really hard to capture someone’s pet in taxidermy. Most taxidermy is wild animals who die naturally or are killed in pest control, there are a few specialists who will taxidermy trophies but most stick to smaller animals. Domestic animal fetuses which die of natural causes are often preserved as wet specimens. I myself collect skulls, and I have a dog and cat skull among my collection, as well as a pet canary (none mine). Maybe it is different in America, but here the people who taxidermy pets are the best of the best.

Eventually the stress that comes along running an online shop got to me and i turned to doing lines of coke with my stuffed mouse in my mother’s basement.
taxidermy is actually a really cool form of art and preservation!! there’s a lot of small creators that use etsy to sell their products, and i’ve gotten a lot of things for curiosity cabinets from etsy! most etsy creators specify where their animals come from, ex. not killed.

Taxidermy is a booming business. Most people who get it done are hunters, some get their pets taxidermied when they die, and a lot of museums use taxidermy animals in their displays. My mom really wanted to taxidermy her childhood dog when it died, but the rest of my family refused and she couldn't afford it anyway XD

About the Etsy Wedding font though: from what I can tell it started in the bullet journal/studyblr sphere around 2015, but at that point it was literally Hand Lettering, like you had to do it yourself and use a brush to get it to look right. And once it got popularized someone eventually made a computer font out of it, everybody got really excited they didn’t have to Physically Write It anymore, and it exploded

Taxedermy is actually really cool. They use the hides of the animal and put them onto a mannequin. They don’t use the bones of the animal to pose it.

I love taxidermy! The skill it takes to do good taxidermy is amazing. I always wanted to collect it but taxidermy is expensive! I’m jealous of your collection! I bet it’s awesome.
@@AlbinoAxolotl taxidermy is expensive lol, I just make my own ;) this is one of the reasons my collection is mainly just skulls, they are easy to process yourself and much cheaper!

I agree with the font rant. That font is on anything and everything "fancy" at the Dollar store in the states. Any greeting card or bridesmaid champagne glass.

There's also a whole bunch of taxidermied rats in BDSM poses on etsy. I kept getting them when I google searched Rat toys, looking for toys for my rats and I am scarred for life.

About the Etsy Wedding font though: from what I can tell it started in the bullet journal/studyblr sphere around 2015, but at that point it was literally Hand Lettering, like you had to do it yourself and use a brush to get it to look right. And once it got popularized someone eventually made a computer font out of it, everybody got really excited they didn’t have to Physically Write It anymore, and it exploded
