    I’m a pretty big snob when it comes to having dialed in technique specific gear. But the truth is that versatility is often overlooked, yet it is super important if you’re a guy that jumps in to your buddies boats and fishes with them all of the time.
    I don’t want to be bringing my entire fleet of 10 rods with me every time I fish with a friend. Much nicer just bringing 2-3 rods that I can cover pretty much everything with. So I appreciate this video!

    Megabass Destroyer P5 Tequilla Baccarac = swimbaits 1 to 4oz. and big top-water.
    Madbull = medium depth crankbaits, all squarebill's, chatterbaits 3/8 - 1/2oz.
    Dark Sleeper = dark sleeper 1/4 to 3/8oz., swimjigs "same as dark sleepers, whopper plopper.
    Shamrock = jerkbait's, swimbaits 3/8 - 1/2oz.
    Landsat = jerkbait's 1/8 - 3/8oz., Dropshot / Ned Rig 1/8 - 1/4oz.
    As a general rule of thumb will fish baits 1/4oz. less than Megabass rates a rod. Great video as always!

    My Megabass P5 Destroyer Tequila Baccarac has become one of my most used, most versatile rods when kayak fishing. Mag draft, big Spinnerbait, small arigs, deep cranks, big jigs and phenomenal frog rod in a short 7ft rod.... it's truly amazing. My most versatile MH rod is my St Croix Legend Xtreme 7ft. Incredibly sensitive and a do everything, awesome bottom bait rod compact enough not to be cumbersome in a kayak.... love it!!! 👍

    As a kayak guy, there are like 2 rods that never leave my holders. Victory 73MH for basically anything moving bait with single hooks (swim jigs, spinnerbaits, flashy swimmers, buzzbaits, decent at chatterbaits), and then my 844MBR for bottom contact but also a zillion other things cause that tip is just so versatile. The perfect pitch would be a close second to the MBR for similar stuff

      @@herbsteiner1013 Your system sounds perfect. Up until this year I was carrying on a few rods in my backpack since they are about 20" long but now Colombia makes you check all rods. I'm sure the original intent was because of all the guys who would carry on 40" rod cases but logical thinking doesn't necessarily permeate the airline industry. Now I put the Jabbers five piece rods in a tough clear plastic tube they send their Wanderlust rods in with one slide-off end saying open, abierto etc. in case they decide to take a peek. I got 25 of their rods to have on hand here in South Florida for other travelers and myself as shipping from Singapore is ridiculous, so with the dealer price I break even.

    I grew up in Montauk, Long Island, NY -- The undisputed "Fishing Capital of the World." Also, spent much time in the Florida Keys and South Florida. When we talk about fishing rods for different purposes, the goals and Lines are clear. We don't obsess about 1/4 oz jigs and different lures. Here is how it goes for real fishermen on the East Coast, USA. (1) light inshore bottom fishing rod porgies, seabass, fluke & flounder basically any 20 lbs. setup will do, but it has got to be a star drag Penn w/ 7' rod 30 lbs. class; (2) inshore wire line trolling stripers and blues Penn Senator 113H, heavy 7' rod w/ carbide guides; (3) surfcasting Van Staal on custom locally built Johnny Stick 10' - 13'; (4) codfish stick and Penn star drag reel; (5) offshore stand-up Tuna stick 5'6" with Penn 50 International. Those 5 rigs will catch everything that swims in the Atlantic Ocean. How anyone could bother to have 5-rods for catching largemouth bass, each rod specifically tuned to some awful looking swim baits is beyond belief.

    I use mid-level gear- can't afford the high-end stuff. That said- the Powell infernos I picked up have turned out to be some really versatile, quality rods imo. I have three- the medium light fast action spinning rod, the medium mod/fast bait caster, and a medium heavy mod/fast. Also picked up one of their Deisel rods- the heavy fast action 7'2". It's rated as fast but it has a more moderate bend to it- I use it for glides, jigs, heavy Texas rigs, heavy swim jigs, larger swim baits, etc.- very versatile rod.

    yes. that's the proper wording. how many you need to fish. ...not how many you need to own.
    I usually get by with 2 or 3 rod types, anywhere i go.. The difference is usually length or power. If there are very small fish in that area or light lure/baits will be used, a small spinning rod will be there.

    I'm a kayak guy & definitely have some rods that stay with me every trip: IMX Pro 845 CBR for all my cranking; GLX 843MBR for jigs & Texas rigs (as well as top water) Tequila Baccarac with a glide bait tied on. Always?? Yes. I take time almost every trip to throw a glide bait. 4 of my 5 biggest bass over 5 pounds are on the glide.
    Other rods I'll add or change out if I'm using chatter bait, wake bait, frog, spinner, etc. Just depending on season & technique.

    In the real world we can't really carry 10-30 rods with us and this is especially true for bank anglers. Carrying 2-3 rods that can do a little of everything is far more efficient. Carrying a 7ft Medium Heavy casting rod and a 6'6"-7' Medium spinning rod will allow you to fish most fishing techniques. Also, if you don't mind carrying an extra/3rd rod then a heavy power rod will allow you to fish most techniques too like frogs and punching.

But if it's a spot I go to regularly i'll bring a 7-7'3" MH fast or mod-fast casting combo and a 7-7'3" medium, fast action spinning combo. Or if the jerk bait bite is on i'll take a 6'10" medium, mod-fast casting combo. Good for the jerk bait and the mod-fast action goes really good with lipless or square bills too. I'll even throw my baby bull shads on that combo.

    So what is your opinion, is the Mega Bass destroyer windbuster better than the Edge Bws hsr 7600-1? It is a mag-L extra fast 6-12 lb 1/4 to 1/2 ounce rod by Garry Loomis.

    I have a Lews med heavy rod that's rated 1/4-7/8. Before I got my swimbait rod set up I was throwing free style mag drafts with owner 8/0 1/2oz hooks. Which is closer to 1.75-2oz total. For some reason that rods throws those perfectly, of course I missed fish on hook sets like anyone does here & there. But every fish I've got good hookset on I've landed. They definitely under rated that rod! It doesn't throw anything under 3/4 oz well! I would like to know which companies actually rate thier rods consistently?

    diablo spec r is best for like vixen size walking baits in my experience, if using fluoro and slower reel 3/8-1/2oz swim jig, spinnerbait and lipless crank work well with it too, defo NOT a chatterbait rod

    My question is this I have a tournament series St. Croix one says jerk bait one says jig and worm now them to rods could I use that jerk bait rod as my cranking bait ride also I have a triad Boyd Duckett that I use with the micro eyelets for my spinning baits I’m just confused on my five rods and I got my gear ratio set right I got that all in order for retrieving quick retrieve but when it comes to big swim baits I just don’t understand the difference in the ride with the leader like I have 65 pound test breathe with a 15 pound diameter and I don’t use floral or mono as a leader line is that why I’m not getting hook up ratios on my tapwater bites

    Not a bass guy by any means. I like the quality of the videos and talking fishing. It cracks me up how there are a ton of rods for all this stuff.
    It would be interesting and informative to see an underwater view of the bait doing a top water vs deep water or whatever else these are all specialized to do. Compare the rods doing the same things to SHOW how much of a difference it actually makes. Guessing not enough…

    What's the difference between the NRX+ 873C CRR and the NRX+ 844C MBR?

    • @michaelblair7141
      @michaelblair7141 7 месяцев назад

      The NRX+ 873C CRR is a rod meant for Carolina Rigs specifically. It is 87" long and a 3 Power Rod (MedHvy). The NRX+ 844C MBR stands for Mag Bass Rod and is 84" long and a 4 Power (Hvy) meant for more universal techniques instead of specific ones.

Since we're still iced over here in Wisconsin I get to stare at it for another month and think about what it's going to be good at without taking into consideration what MB says it's for. Can you guys or anyone on here with experience with this model to tell me where it shines. Seems like a super versatile rod to me?

    Love the video idea. Looking to get into rods over the $250 range. Where I live I do not have access to see these rods in person, how would you recommend someone to buy a rod they can not get their hands on first to feel it? Take a shot in the dark or is there return policies you offer if the rod isn't what someone was actually looking for.

    If you guys can add another jdm brand I'd recommend tailwalk, I think it would sell super well I'm willing to bet money on it. They're lineup is quite big but their rods are very versatile, fished lures for white bass to stripers and hybrids. The price point sits a little over $200 but it's quality for sure.

    I would like to know if you could send me something back and a reply I need a 7 foot three medium heavy that I could use for spinning baits chatter baits in some 1 ounce swim baits what will hold up when I’m catching 5 pound fish that I could use as a universal ride now that I realize that my Saint Croix tournament legend rods is 66 medium heavy jerk bait now I understand why that ride always did it’s job and I looked under the handle and it had a symbol that said jerk bait in the whole time I thought they were both the same rods that’s where I’m confuse that when it comes to fission it’s like fissions becoming more like a bag of golf clubs

    G'day from Australia mate...Like many of you all i have multiple rods to do differing jobs..I use mainly U.S.A. marketed rods for my fishing over here namely Powellco, Loomis, Pflueger, Browning, Eagle Claw and my most favourite of all a Cape Fear hexagon blank rated at 3kg is only 5ft 11inch spin medium...I would trade in all my other rods for more Cape Fears if i could do so..
