Explore the beauty of Mount Kapayas in Catmon, Cebu: A challenging trail to a stunning 360-degree view
The Torre or Lantawan Peak, or better known as Mount Kapayas 783 meters above sea level, is located in Catmon, the northern part of Cebu province. It is one of the key biodiversity areas in Cebu, therefore it is protected by the local government and residents.
Before climbing, it is necessary to hire a guide, secure a permit from the municipality (P250/10 people), and register at the police station. This is to ensure the safety of climbers and to facilitate rescue efforts in case of emergencies. The climb takes around one to two hours.
The trail is challenging as it passes through steep slopes, mossy forests, and rocky terrain that requires rock climbing skills. However, the stunning 360-degree view of Catmon and nearby cities from the peak is worth the effort.
Buses from the North Terminal in Cebu City head to Catmon and the travel time takes around two hours to reach the municipality.
From the municipality, ride a habal-habal or multicab going to the jump-off point which takes about an hour.
