Potvin's mask in Toronto was my favorite at the time. It was so unique. Thanks for the well explained tutorial. Will take a shot at doing my own mask now.
Dang Bro! Finally someone puts up some useful info on here (youtube) who actually do a good job!
Thanks Yo!
I really like the white potvin mask!! The blue also looks great!! After watching this I want to make up my own vinyl and do my mask!!
wow!!! sick dude! I would totally come to you for a mask job!
Cool video...Actually have his kid (Xavier) playing for us this year..May actually try this for next year.
This tutorial is great! Thanks a lot! Potvins mask was dope too, although I'm a Brodeur man myself :)
thanks bruh!
HEY GUYS! hey i'm just starting to look into painting my mask. i really only want it to be white but if i could add some images of my high school team that'd be cool. i'm not artistic at all so i'm wondering what would be the best thing to do?
Felix 'the cat' Potvin, the Godfather of the butterfly stance. he was my all time favorite goalie
wow thats really good
excellent work bro
OK! So its how ever many years later now and i'm going to be redoing them... should i do a video about how they held up?
yes
@@michvel5290 sounds good already starting filming it should be a good one!! Probably be done in a couple months when i get time to finish
@1984Punx just at a local printer, I designed the layout in corel draw, printed it out on paper, see if it fits good, make adjustments and then once I was happy with the layout I sent the vector to a print shop and them print it. Remember this needs to be done in a vector format not in photoshop because the printer needs the vector file to cut it out
well i had it out today and it's not bad, just when your getting the paint there are different kinds. rust paint, lacker paint ect. just when you go to buy paint talk to the guy and make sure the clear coat and the paint you use along with your primer all work together. i'm no paint expert but i know some paints to go together well with different primers and clears.
i do wear it . i'm not out all the time right now just doing drop in but it seems to be holding up well. i used cheap stuff from lordco and its doing well. i think more then the amout of clear coat its the quality, what brand how you apply it ect..
nice work, got that file still for the design? if so send me the TML potvin design if possible!
I am working on doing my first helmet right now. (Actually on my second attempt of my first helmet)
While doing my base coat, the layer of paint got very uneven in a lot of spots. What is the best way to get these layers of paint even again?
2 quick questions: I have a 2 year old ProMask Sector that needs a new paintjob. I'm not looking for a custom design or anything, just a white coat on top. It's painted golden with some really wierd paint. I asked my local airbrusher if he could fix it, but he would charge me 90 bucks for it!
Should i remove the old paint first or should i just prime over it and then spray on 4-5 white coats.
Tips would be much appreciated!
Hi. I have a glossy goalie mask. My dad says the paint won't look good and wont stick to the glossy decal. Do you think it will work? Great video!
Does any primer keep it safe? I dont want to ruin my helmet...
wait what program did you use to get the first shape out? you said it "grill draw, or crill draw?" Please let me know! Thank you!
Do you still have the leaf template? i would love to have a copy of that to get one done for my mask.
Ive heard that if you put too much clear coat it will cause it to chip from pucks. Not sure if you are the wearer of this mask or not or if youve gotten feedback from whoever is wearing it, in regards to the paint chipping or not. Im looking into painting my own mask right now with posca pens and airbrushing and just kinda gathering information on what to do.
I paint motorbike helmets and goalie helmets in my free time, but I use an airbrush. Your helmet looks great! nice idea using the sticker. The only criticism I have is the mask you are using is not rated for organic vapor (spray paint), it is a dust mask, so although it is blocking the paint particles, the fumes are still getting through. I suggest you get a org-vap rated niosh mask, (unless you like getting a bit high)
Cool stuff!
Dude im from Toronto how much for a Potvin Painted mask? I wouldn't mind having one for display. I like the KOHO REVOLUTION style like potvin used.
So where can you buy these supplies like the mask and paint?
would i have to pay the shipping? and could u send them to me in red and gray? The white parts being gray and the black in red. thanks!
please respond!!!! is there anywhere i can print out, or buy custom templates? or should i go to a print shop and ask them? plz respond
Can you paint/airbrush the CAGE? Please reply!
do you know how to remove the original stickers .. its not a sticker you can put on your own .. but it comes on the helmet .. and I want to know how to remove them ..?
where did you get the paint and what kind of paint did you use. Isn't there a spacial paint you need to keep your helmet certified
My teacher wants me to paint his hockey mask and this video seems useful. I just need the type of paint you used and the coats. Im not experienced in this sort of things, i only draw, occasionally paint, but my teacher is asking me to do this an i dont want to mess it up. Please please help
Ill think about it because it wasnt the design i was looking for but i might take it ill get back to you in a day or two
what's a deckle?
its a canadian thing ;)
What kind of paint do you use for an Air bush?
Great video man! Just one question: where did you get the vinyl printed out? I have difficulties hearing what you're saying in the video. Thanks!
get "CAST" wrap vinyl from any print shop
I'm curious as to how you got the inside padding in and out. It seems like mine is glued in, did you just tear it out and reglue it? Or is the padding attached in some other way? I'll take a closer look at my mask before I put it on before tonight's game.
In higher end masks the padding is held in mechanically with screws.
i just ripped it out and then hot glue gunned it back it .. worked perfect
hey do still have the templates? I absolutly love this! I had something simular with the potvin but the teeth piece was two piece and looked alright. Let me know!
where did you print the Vinyl? Im trying to do this on my helmet but i cant find a place that can print vinyl.
Also how can i get the foam in and out without wrecking it??????????
do u still have the file for your mask?
thnx jeff.. glad you like it
potvins mask is custom mold but the closest shape to what he used is the eddy
Where do u get the plain helmet? Plz answer
What helmet did he use? and where did the cat-eye visor come from?
love this
hey just wondering if i could could i send you a design over via- mail or internet and you get the helmet and do the design. would you be able to do that or not?
looks great, wow.
gonna do this on my old helmet first just to make sure it works
This is amazing, have you made the decal template available? I'd be interested in getting the exact template you used (free or not).
Good job.
thnx bud $50 paypal you can have the vector :D PM me
Nice job
Thanks for the tips. Is Correl Draw a pro software?
BTW, Where you from? Never hear decal (dee, cal as in California) pronounced "deckle" as rhymes with freckle.
BC canada
Hello I was wondering if you’d be willing to email me the template you used?? My son loves what you did and he watches your video over and over
Just wondering if you still have the template of potvin when he was on the leafs and if so would you share it?
Thanks
I am actually in the process of rebuilding it and I'm doing a follow-up video for this one. Should be done by Spring 2020. I'll be sharing all the things I learned and the do's and don'ts from this video. Regarding the template unfortunately I'm not giving it out. Was a ton of work. The reality is that design needs to be custom built for every different style of helmet
What paint do you use?
haha ya i'm canadian, i know when i heard you americans say deekal i thought it was funny but theres lots of words i'm realizing we pronounce differently ;) but its all good.... corel draw is pro software but pritty easy to figure out
id probably remove the old stuff as much as possible. i did for mine and even though im using cheap paint its holding up well.. when you mix paint on a mask who knows what will happen. get all the old stuff off
Great job Jeremie! Researching to paint my catcher's mask, glad I came across your video. Was all of your paint and clear coat rated for automotive use? What grit size was your sandpaper? How durable has this method turned out to be? Hopefully you haven't had to take too many shots to the head....
had it now for about a year or 2 and taken a few shots to the head and it's still holding up awesome actually.. longer then my pro painted ones! haha may just fluke I haven't been hit in the head as much ? but ya automotive paint and sandpaper up to I think I did 1200
Thanks!
mine was automotive paint i purchased from lordco, i'v taken a few head shots but it held up not bad! the clear is starting to crack a bit but its now 6 years old so i'm more then happy with its longevity... now i can sand it and do it again if i wanted!
Where did you get the blank helmets and back plates? And what did you use to draw the shapes?
those are eddy helmets that i had sandblasted and primed they were my old ones
hey guys, just wanted you to know the the helmet has been being used for a little over a year now and has taken a few shots to the head and it's still looking awesome! :) will definatly do this again in the future if I want a repaint... Considering that you re do a paint job every couple years anyways... this is awesome ;) cheers guys and thnx for watching!!
great job............
Is this a playable helmet? How does it hold up on the ice?
He's just saying because spray paint softens player helmets, making them useless. I wonder the same...
Player helmets are plastic. Goalie masks are fiberglass, Kevlar etc.
Im soo trying this on my Vaughn cat eye
How much for the file of the Potvin design?
Hi Jeremie - Great work! Some questions, when you drew your design, what kind of paper and materials did you use to color in the template prior to having in printed onto vinyl? Or did you provide the sketch and the colors were added when printing onto vinyl? Thanks, Mike
corel draw
oh...ic...you left the sticker on the helmet? I thought you painted over it like a stencil..but its basically a sticker right? thx

ha thnx bro .. i just did this for fun to show people how they can do it themselves.. i don't do it for money..... at least not yet.... ;)
Hey Jeremie, would you consider selling me a copy of the file you took to the printer? I'd love to do this, what a great idea! I see previously you said you'd sell the vector file for $50... I'd like to buy it... PayPal??
hey bud sure PM me
could you draw me some decails?
i think it'd be pretty cool if you used a black chrome cage :-) but good job anyways!
I made Patric roy's helmet
any sign shop should be able to do it for you
IF ANYONE HAS TRYED THERE OWN AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO SEND ME PICS OF YOUR PROJECT!!!
yup, left the sticker right on it
wow, I totally forgot potvin played for the kings lol
Side note: getting requests from guys to design the vynl decal for there masks, I can do it no prob for you price can range depending on design but can be anywhere from $100-$400 depending on the time needed. I'll send you the file and then you can get t printed from some local print shop :)
thnx lenny :)
its your mask bro do whatever you want :D
this looks good but you need to change the title to " how to put stickers on a helmet" the only painting you did was a base coat
i designed it but just had it printed at a local print shop
honestly i'm not a painter i'm a graphic designer... couldn't really give you an answer.. just make sure you use good primer
