Man the quality of your videos keeps getting better and better. The lighting, sound, and b roll are on point!! Keep up the good work bro!!
......just being out hunting & hiking is success, for me,....no need to kill unless I need the meat......Like your videos - down to earth real & no loud stupid music - good job, keep'em coming & Thanks fer sharing.
Good stuff man. I'm enjoying watching you progress as a videographer almost as much as hearing what you have to say about precision rifles.
Thanks man 🙏🏽
Great video as usual!
That Tikka has evolved to High-Speed Low-Drag for sure.
I vote for you and Caleb to do a Mammoth challenge, or Sniper Adventure Challenge and bring us along....light work for you two.
Thanks for your attention to detail and time making great content to share, and your Service!
Thanks for putting this series together. As a life long shooter who's always wanted to do long range but never had the budget to get into this side of marksmanship, this is a great jumping off point for me. The world of long range can feel like a deep end for many of us, with all the factors in the rifle world from caliber to scope configurations its overwhelming. Thanks for showing a great option and that it can be done for less the 10k for those wanting to get into this side of the house. Thanks again for the content and your knowledge.
It’s my pleasure. Thanks for watching!
Yup we are getting old and fragile, 031 Infantry with the Princess Pat’s CDN Light Infantry in Alberta, Canada. 15 years in uniform packing GPIGs. Still shooting PR matches, but the body don’t like the PRS barricades anymore. LOL Life is Good!! Peace Be The Journey! Maraming Salamat, bro!!
Not only are you a good shooter but you’re so damn likable on camera!
Great video, Phil! The progression of the rifle is cool to see and the video is really well done.
One of my favorite VLOGs Phil. Love the hunting footage hope you get more time to hunt.
Lol taking that stock tikka barrel off took my brother and I to get it done and we took a break in the middle of it. I also broke a ebay internal action wrench the first time I tried.
External wrench to get the factory barrel off, then internal wrench after that barrel is removed. I've done several, pretty straight forward with the external wrench on the action and the barrel in a vise.
Ayeeeeee! Another Tikka vid hell yeah brother! Love my CTR
Grey film!! Love the back packing hunts, I just have trouble getting other hunters off of their butts to pack hunt.
Bro this is my favorite channel. Please keep these videos up
Ditto... Tikka barrels are a monster pain to get off! I also but a pre-fit proof research on my original 270 wsm, now 6.5 PRC. Shoots very very good with several different load applications, hunting or target. My action is in a carbon McMillan stock as it is a hunting rig, total weight with scope is right at 8lbs even. Keep up the vids bro! Solid work!
@all_ontario_hunter it was a T3, I purchased it in 2010 when you could get a Tikka for 699$ on sale for 649$. The great part about Tikka actions are that they are the exact same for long or short action. The only difference is the magazine and the bolt release. If you remove the bolt release, which is super easy you will see that you can take a 1/4” off of it with a Dremel. Or or can buy a new one but why?!? This will allow the bolt to retract the added length for and long action or short action. I also purchased the long action magazines so I could load the 6.5 long with heavy projectiles... IE Berger EOL 156s. Overall a very simple project. I shot it last week produced sub 1/4 moa with hunting load. 143 ELDx. ZERO machine work had to be done with this project, well, minus a little dremel work on the bolt release, took all of 3 minutes. Hope this helps.
Always enjoy PV videos. Humble down to Earth dude that is cool as the other side of the pillow.
Love my T3x, good to see ya punching out videos. Much love man, happy new year!
Cool vid, thanks. I'm about to start another Tikka build. Going for a Tikka T3x Super Varmint 6.5 Creedmoor and planning to drop it into an MDT ACC Chassis. That's going to be my comp gun. Currently have the Tikka T3 Super Varmint 308 Win in an MDT ESS Chassis and that thing is shooting lights out.
Glad to have you back man!! Sick vid.
Awesome video series! Building a Tikka right now. I'm in Wa. If you want a good black bear/Mule Deer spot I've got one. I usually hunt with a bow but have been kicking the idea around of hunting with my Tikka's
Keep makin videos man, always fun to see when you got a new vid up. Cheers.
Very nice Tikka build
Awesome stuff Phillip! Proud of you man! Keep it up!
Also recently picked a basically brand new 20” tikka CTR in 6.5cm. Immediately went to a KRG bravo. After watching this I’m strongly considering getting a 22” proof research carbon prefit. I’ve never had a proof barrel.
You'll really like the pre-fit!
@@velayo_0317 ya I’m excited. Hoping the headspace of the proof chamber is the same or 0.001 tighter so I can still use all the fired brass I have from the factory barrel.
@@jcap199 Why did you want to change barrels. Tikkas are generally hammers. If you did swap, how did it work out?
@@montuckyman4982 accuracy they a good but typically tikka barrels are very slow velocity wise. I took the factory off with a barrel vice and a external action wrench then torqued on the proof barrel with a rear entry action wrench.
Glad to see ur doing more vids.
Nice gloves Clownshow. I remember when I tried to grow my first mustache too!!!
😂😂😂
Awesome video champ keep up the great work tikka set-up looking sweet
Damn I love that trigger
Great to have more content from you! Keep it up 👍
Love the vids bro, Keep em coming.
Thoughts on Howa 1500s?
Harris bipods Atlas CAL! Muzzle break? I have this 24” in 6.5. Love my Tikka. Thanks for the video. So Skypods? As I am out west. Still watching.
Good work Phil! Keep it up
Thank you.
Just came across this video recently while researching builds for a PRS/hunting rifle. What are your thoughts on the Howa barreled actions from Brownells?
You mentioned Yakima
I am assuming Yakima Washington I was born and raised in the Yakima Valley before I joined the Army.
If you're looking for a team comp, The tactical games is running a "sniper challenge" in august at Triple C Range in Cresson, TX.
Would be cool to see you guys out there!
Phillip, enjoiyall youre videos, thanks. Since you run tikka actions how are you setting in a chassis that doesn't conform to the bottom action? I.e. action bolt raised portion.
Love the videos. Keep them coming.
What loads are you using if you don’t mind sharing
Loving the Tikka build updates Phil! You’re doing a great job! Keep ‘em coming. Did you change the bolt shroud? Who made that, if so?
G’day from Australia.
Tikka Creedmoor owner here , so have watched the progress with great interest.
Is it possible for you to do a breakdown/ how too on your bolt manipulation technique?
Man you move that thing so fast its hard to see exactly how your doing it and not disrupting the rifle.
Cheers mate
Ken
I definitely can!
Awesome video!! I love shooting my Tikka 7mm. Is it Yakima, wa? We travel there often for work
Man I wish I could get in my proof research barrel blanks in. 8 months and still waiting
Very well done. 👍🏼
I'm saving up so I can buy a Tikka
can really recommend the absolutely fantastic weapon straight out of the box with factory amo, I managed to place really well in several competitions.
I would like to see a light weight build. What are your thoughts?
Sniper Adventure Challenge? It’s a gut check.
Great video.
Hello, is Proof making a prefit for Remington? Thank you
16:00 why isn't it capable of LE / Mil stuff?
Kinda curious why as well. I guess because it's in 6.5??
can you elaborate on that load out you have at the rifles only section of the video? plate carrier set up? What slingis that for the tripod?
You said Yakima. Did you get the barrel removed and new barrel installed in Yakima? I live ten minutes away in Wapato and I’m looking for a recommended local smith that could do my tikka build. I’m doing exactly the same build but with a 6.5 prc in a proof 26” barrel.
When you switched chassis were you still running the factory 20” barrel and is your carbon barrel in this video 20” as well?
Hey, cool video. How has the proof barrel been for you since the video?
Everyone I know says they can’t get barrel off tikka. Has anyone ask why or how they crank their barrels on with or how many ft lbs. They must really torque them on.
keep it coming!
If you said it, I didn't catch it. Has the accuracy increased with the carbon fiber barrel?
Can you tell me where you got your bad Larry diving board?
So once you get the factory barrel off. Is it easier after that to remove and replace your wok barrels?
Loving the Tikka build vlog Phil. .. I understand its a Hybred Hunting / comp, what is your estimated expected barrel life on a carbon fibre barrel for hunting /training and comps ?
cheers can't wait for part 7
Thanks for watching bud. I’ve pushed several 6.5 CM Carbon barrels past 3k. So that’s what I’m expecting!
Have you heard of or used carbon six barrels and how they compare to proof?
Love the video bud, not sure I would agree with all Tikka’s being slow, my Tikka Varmint 300WSM that I’m running is shooting 130grain TTSXs at 3650, a whole 150 FPS faster than Quickload and all given load data predicted possible even at max pressure plus a bit, that’s without having hit pressure signs at 3700fps plus when load developing!
Do you use a barrel nut when rebarreling a Tikka T3X or T3?
Thanks for the vids bro
Hey Phil
Do you happen to know what dimensions he used to set your headspce ? I'm also going to purchase one of these barrels for my Tikka..Who did yours ?
Thanks
Love your vids, I learn so much! What was your pack during the bear hunt?
I have the exact same rifle. I have it in 308. If I go the same route as you, you think 308 is good enough for long range shooting?
Enjoy your videos. So....all that's left original Tika is the receiver? If so, is it really accurate to call it a Tika or is it now a custom?
At was distance was that 3 shot group done at? I have a Tikka T3X Tac A1 that I've started to mod
100yards
@ That’s disappointing shooting this rifle at only 100 yards
Great video as usual.👏🏻👌🏻
Just want to know, how many rounds have been shot from the Tikka barrel?
I pulled the factory barrel at around 500 rounds, so pretty pre mature. This barrel is still really fresh, that 3 round group shown in the video was rounds 132-135!
My daughter loves your video because she has the same pig
If it is not too imprudent, what was your overall cost on the gun - barrel, action and stock? I am thinking you were close to what a Proof Research Elevation would have cost you.
This is an older video now, how is your experience with the Proof barrel? Specifically any weird flyers, or POI problems with heat? I'm trying to do research for a hunting rifle, but it seems some people have problems with carbon fiber wrapped barrels. Any of these problems with Proof barrels? Your accuracy seems good in the video footage.
I'm not him, but in general. Steel barrels also make the occasional dud..maybe 1-100 are duds.
Carbon barrels seem to run about 1or 2 out of 10 are duds. There's just way more to complicate and screw up!
What bullet did you use for the mule deer hunt?
I can’t remember well but confident it was 140, 143 or 147.
Outstanding
Phillip - do you consider the direct attach method of the Spuhr 4006 rings more secure than the factory picatinny rail mount method that came with the CTR ? The factory screws that hold that rail on are kind of small.... Thanks - John
Hey John! So far I like this mounting system. One less moving part especially with a picatinny rail that isn’t integral to the action. I tested the repeatability of taking it on and putting it back on and i was dead nuts. Not even a .1 shift.
@@velayo_0317 so is the Tikka dovetail good enough for getting bounced around in a scabbard used for the Mammoth Sniper Challenge ? Building a Tikka just for this ... Thx brother
@@velayo_0317what do you think of the mount now? I bought a CTR a month ago and then found this series which is almost exactly what I was planning to do. Thanks for making it! Have you had any problems getting to distance with the 20” barrel and that 0 moa mount?
Sign up for the Sniper Adventure Challenge. Suffering is always a good time!
Magic Carbon
Does the lower ring height bring the windage turret into play with ejection port?
No. Never had any issues hitting the windage turret!
Can we get a running cost total?
(Street prices!)
CTR - 1000
Chassis - 800-1300 (fixed or folding)
Proof barrel - 900
Kahles - 2800
Spuhr - 400
Bipod - 400
Area419 brake - 150
Gold knob - priceless
No much Tikka left in it ...just the action.
Why the different bipod recommendation for east coast shooters and west coast shooters?
Distance
What rear bag is that??
Any idea what the weight difference was between the factory and Proof Research barrels?
The PROOF is about .5 lb lighter than the factory barrel. Although it is a thicker contour and longer barrel!
7:25 top ten things worth editing...
Tikka needs to offer a production class rifle that's a tikka action, lighter trigger, proof stainless barrel, krg whiskey 3. I'd be all over it
Riff raff sniper 😎
The video editing is getting better each time Phil! Keep it up dude. Is there a reason you chose the tikka ctr over other rifles in the price range? I know a lot of people seem to favor the Bergara hmr with a vortex pst gen 2 in the range
Thanks man.
Since the begara is pretty much a Rem700 clone, I’m assuming that’s why it’s a little more popular over the Tikka.
I chose the Tikka because of also the aftermarket support for it, but actually more because of the bolt ergonomics. Definitely one of the slickest bolts I’ve used, even compared to some of my nitrided custom actions.
@@velayo_0317 a good video would be going over why you run all the kahles scopes over the competitors
Finding a CTR is tough. How’s the lite? Or the other t3s?
Any tikkas are great. Downside is thin barrel profile. But the action is still awesome that you can use to upgrade!
@@velayo_0317 I see, yea that’s what I read. CTR has that thicker barrel and more metal. Gona keep looking around, if not I’ll choose one of the other tikkas.
Need more videos!
Where's that shirt from? Thanks
Head to moderndaysniper.shop !
How you've only got 9k subs is a mystery.
any Canadians on here that can recommend where you can get a tikka pre-fit proof research in Canada?
Corlanes in bc
My shots aren’t as good as I’d like. Would the pig help? 😜
What sling are you running?
This is the MAGPUL ps1 sling.
Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy the action and then get the rest of your parts?
The only thing Tikka on that gun now is the action.
No, I'm not talking shit. Genuine question. I've watched the whole series and can't figure out why you would buy a gun just to swap everything out instead of just building it from off the shelf parts.
Also, vlog 5 is restricted and I can't comment on it but DUDE that competition shit looks fun!!
I'm just not competitive. Beating you doesn't mean fuck all to me. But watching that video was like damn. There's some good training value in these matches
Fair question.
The idea was to show the diversity of a tikka action and what you could do with it for those who can initially just afford the rifle. I wanted to highlight the after market support for the Tikka action, as I’ve seen many other rifles come through my class that just stop right there at what they come with.
Obviously I have several $10k custom set ups where I’ve hand selected all my parts.
this might be a very stupid/noobie question, but how much of the Tikka is actually left in this build?
U still didn't get a bear ...
Que?
A 13 pound hunting mountain rifle is about as smart as a straight guy getting smashed off tequila with a crossdresser. making wise decisions isn't that difficult. my tikka is stock, weighs about 6 lbs. why work harder when you can work smarter
