A red letter day for the bass, John. When we come across that out of Plymouth the bass will move about, or rather one part of the enormous shoal will surface and then go deeper and we have to follow the birds to where they're hunting on top again. Usually it'll only happen for 30 minutes, but 2 hours is the longest I've seen. Brilliant sport. Thanks to you and Dave.

FYI: you should try to rub your fluorocarbon leader with a folded-over rubber patch (e.g., a repair patch for an inflatable boat or a bicycle tire). The heat generated from a few rubs straightens the curled-up leader. Have always worked for me with curled-up leaders for fly rod lines since I moved to Alberta in 1974 - and had to give up on coastal fishing in the Baltic Sea.
What a fantastic day you had with the bass, in my fishing days (1950s-early2960s) there weren't any seasons or restrictions on sea fish. See that the Cornish doggie's followed you!
