I used to think soup broth was a weird thing to add to MRE’s. After trying them out and having hot soup broth on a cold night out camping I definitely see the appeal.

No, French 'tuna salad' is closer to Tuna Helper than American style tuna salad. Its tuna, orzo pasta, and a tomato sauce, and that is like eating cold Tuna Helper. You can do it, but ...well, like tuna helper warm or cold.... I always put in frozen peas when I cook it too, and because I live in freaking Connecticut and you simply cannot find Tuna Helper in this state. So, I use Hamburger Helper but make it with tuna.

I used to work with a guy , ex Legion, this ration is what dreams are made of. He was in 63 -68 and did another 3years on top ( when you get a stripe on your arm, life gets better!)
He told me in his time, the ration was a tin of sardines, hunk of bread and warm water which didn't quench the thirst , they had to learn water discipline
I think a modern legionnaire would be happy with this, it's the same as regular French army really.

Don't know why anyone would lose their minds over whether you called a cracker a biscuit, or a biscuit a cracker.
Did people really say they would unsub for that??
Damn, some touchy people out there lol.
All I wanna know is how it tastes, don't give a crap what it's called 🤷
Some interesting food today, I got the impression you didn't really like most of the ration today.

Interesting that all the items are off the shelf and bundled into one package for issue, great way to maintain the cost down as you don't need a special production plant or contracts to manufacture, just contracts for supply and packaging.

Hi Nathan..great review as always...are these actually commando rations? Or is it just the new french packages?..the content looks identical to the regular French RCIR...Perhaps they have just given up the cardboard boxes like the British rations did a couple of years ago. It's weird how these things can be easier to find half way around the world than here in the UK..LOL..Ive been looking for one to review here in the UK but can't find any locally...I can find US rations in Britain to review easier than these new French...crazy...lol.. I've noticed the recent global military trend of issuing 24-hour military MREs. It is not a new concept. The British Army came out with 24-hour rations in a cardboard box in the 1990s. But these days in the 2020s, the 24-hour MRE ration is taking off.
I don't know if the U.S. Army may follow suit. U.S. Army doctrine calls for one hot meal and two MREs in field training exercises, which is easier to do than in actual combat practice. During the 1991 Gulf War, U.S. Army units had to subsist solely on MREs, three times a day because units were advancing faster than field kitchens could keep up.
This might explain the U.S. Army's newer Assault Ration and the new, 2022 prototype Combined Assault Combat Ration, which is supposed to sustain a combat soldier on the move who has little, if any time to sit down and fully dine on a whole MRE.
Therefore I speculate the U.S. Army will be the last to adopt a 24-hour MRE. It might still happen as a matter of convenience, but not anytime soon. The one-meal MRE ration pack concept is deeply embedded in U.S. Army field feeding practices and American soldiers are used to it.

Hello Nathan, I really enjoy the videos that you and Phil create! This French ration looks like a standard RCIR ration, just in a different package. Thanks for the videos Nathan. I appreciate all the time and efforts. I Wonder why Steve doesn't do these MRE's? I wish he did. Nathan, you're more opinionated leaning toward dissatisfied generally in your reviews that I've noticed which ends up casting doubt into the mix. When I watch your videos, I never want the MRE. When I watch Steves reviews, I want the MRE. Weird huh? I think with Steve, you can hear the real and tremendous love and passion he has for MRE's. You can hear this in his voice and review which UN-suprisingly has translated into him having nearly 2 million subs. There are two types of people in this world, You have the people that look for, expect and report on the bad in something and or everything, and then you have the people that seek and find the good in something ignoring the flaws. I think Steves overwhelming positivity in how he presents his content is why he has so many subs. You just want to watch his videos. Thanks again Nathan. I'll be back once in a while to watch a video here or there.
