I can see why my comrades made a three to one trade! We used to refer to MRE's as Meals Rejected by Everyone. But I suppose in the field you are just happy to have food and make the best of it. I think your laugh is great Thomas. After watching your videos for some time I find myself doing the same thing LOL!

I was in 1st Ranger Bn while you were in 2REP and maybe our paths crossed on Corsica in '92. The reason we traded the French 3 to 1 because their ration was for a whole day while an MRE is just one meal. It equals out. Plus there was the novelty of foreign rations. Great video series!

Ha ha great video! When I was in Croatia ‘92 with Canadian Forces , we sometimes got your French rations and we did prefer them over our Canadian rations!

My son used to collect military ration packs...he got hold of a French one...very decent food from what I seen..you definitely get a fair amount of food.
Greetings Thomas! Could you please revisit the RCIR and explain when, Where, and how the ration was consumed? I am especially curious how these rations were intended to be divided between the three daily meals. Your channel is a welcome change from the everyday confusion of civilian life. When I was in Germany in 1988 we were training with some Belgian tankers at the Bergen-Belsen Range Complex and they wanted to trade for our MRE's at lunchtime one day and the meal I got was fresh braised rabbit with potatoes, cheese, good bread and a small bottle of wine! I couldn't believe they would trade for a constipation making nasty MRE. Much love from Fate Texas
They look way better than our MRE's. The best MRE's that our military had were the Cold Weather rations. I believe that have changed the name to Meal, Cold Weather (MCW) since my time in the military. But they do not look anywhere as good as the Individual Reheatable Combat Ration. Thanks for sharing a video describing them.

That’s a lot of food. I thought legionnaires only ate snakes and scorpions. I ate a lot of of MRE’s as a US Marine in Iraq. Overall not bad but French meals look a lot better. Is that issued one per day generally? Excellent videos Adjutnant Gast!

The French RCIRs are 1,000 times better than US MREs. In the US military we say: MREs = Meals Rejected by Everybody!

Do you still use esbit in the french army? In the netherlands we dont use them anymore, they told us you can get cancer of the smoke

hi thomas i had a big laugh on this video i was 3 times to viet nam as a us army soldier. and often we had c rations they did not have mre's at that time and like you i went for extended time only with this c rations to eat.. it was not so bad it depends on how hungry ypu are hahaha if you had a huge hunger it was wonderful haha have a good day ray

I was in the US marines and ate my shares of mre's. Does them rations make it hard to go to the bathroom like mre's do. After about a week of them, you won't crap for over a week.

I remember the French troops having wine and pate and confit de canard in their combat rations, I could not believe how good they are compared to Finnish and British. British is ok, curries and breakfast is very good, Finnish is terrible.
