I stayed at RIU Palace Las Americas from February 26 until March 5, 2024. This hotel was awesome and the staff was so courteous and caring. I had a great time as it was my first time to Cancun and out of the country USA. I give this resort five stars! Also loved the night life at RIU Caribe for the White and Neon parties. I didn't want to leave. The restaurants were great and the food was excellent. I would recommend this resort. Met some nice people on the beach while I was there. I recommend RIU Palace Las Americas.
so would you Riu Las Americas is better as far for the beach and food? We been to Riu las americas once and wanted to try to go Riu Kukulkan but i heard the beach water is wavy and can have a lot of seaweed..
@bj10jgo the food at Kukulkan is very similar to Las Americas. The beach is much better at Las Americas bc it’s very calm and little-to-no sargassum 👍🏻
Literally just returned from this resort Saturday. Seven days and I didn't want to leave. This was our second time here in the last two years. Very nice
We're in our 60s and this is by FAR our favorite hotel in Cancun for the value. We've gone here MANY times. We didn't go this year because we travelled with our grandkids and as you mentioned, it's adult only, but we REALLY missed this hotel. Great atmosphere, great service, great food. It's a complete pleasure all the way around. Experiencing another alternative this year, just made us appreciate this hotel all the more! There was a BIG difference! I think you're right about the art work changing. I think it changed since last year. Another thing I noticed when you showed the beach is that before, they had some beds on the beach that were reserved for certain levels of rooms, but I didn't see them there. If they've taken them out, we will really miss that. A suggestion if someone is planning to go to the black & white steak house. Plan to check in and then waste a little bit of time. There is always a wait time as opposed to any of the other restaurants. BUT, they have an option on the menu for lobster which many other hotels either don't offer or charge extra for. Be careful about the activities guys when you enter the theater. I don't think they work for the hotel and we've had some problems with either mistakes or misrepresenting details of the activities. A BIG thing for us, being older and both having back problems, is that as you mentioned, the cove-shaped beach protects from large waves. It has some of the calmest water on the peninsula. Tips are NOT expected or encouraged and you get great, friendly service just the same. That's a big thing when you spend a lot of time walking around in swimsuits and trying not to carry a lot of money or personal belongings with you. The HUGE shower in the rooms is WONDERFUL. The balconies of the rooms are also really nice. They also have liquor dispensers in the rooms as well as a stock of drinks and snacks in the room that are included, which is not the case with all hotels. A tip for ANYONE staying in Cancun for the first time. Do NOT leave the balcony doors with the air conditioner running. The resulting flood in your room from the humidity will not be the high point of your stay. I'm ashamed to say, I speak from personal experience. You did a great job on the review! Thank you very much!
Thanks for the fantastic in depth review , we are coming here from England in July for our honeymoon we had originally booked a all inclusive hotel in Cyprus but having stayed last October at the Riu Palace Santa Maria on the beautiful island of Sal in Cape Verde we realised that we had made a mistake and needed to book a Riu Palace holiday and after a bit of research decided on this little beauty , it looks fantastic and we can't wait for July
Amazing!! You’ll really like Las Americas, it’s great for honeymooners! Downtown Cancun is there too if you want to venture out. Have fun and congrats!
They’re pretty similar in terms of amenities and food - main difference is the decor and location. If you want to be downtown Cancun and want adults-only, then we recommend the Las Americas. If you want a family resort, then Peninsula is your best bet.
Hi guys, ..... hope you and yours are all doing well. QUESTION: Multiple videos on various Resorts in the Cancun hotel zone say that there is an obvious "ODOR" that emanates in the Hotel Zone. Some say it smells like a "Sewer." Can you confirm this or shed any light on the topic?? Thanks in advance. Keep up the great work. 😎
The RIUs are all very different… if you’re going solo and want to meet people, RIU Cancun might be better for you. Las Americas has an older demographic and more couples.. but if you are looking for a quiet vacation, that might be a good choice for you as well. The nice thing about staying at a RIU Palace is that you can visit the other RIUs in the area - so you could visit Cancun anytime during your trip, but not vice versa if staying at Cancun.
Hi ,great review Looking for a hotel that has abit of music by pool bar but not obnoxious all the time... Is this hotel ok for peace and quiet with the choice if you want to party you can?
Good day Andrew ,Can you please tell me if we are allowed to reserve Lounge chairs in the morning with a towel as do other hotels that we have visited ? We enjoyed this video very much !
Hello, do they have ice machines ? What kind of beer is on tap? Do they have can or bottled beer at the bars? Do they have can or bottled beers in the 24 hr lounge? Thanks for all your help❤️
Hey Andrew, planning on visiting RIU PALACE LAS AMERICAS in May 2024. Since the Resort is so close to the Cancun downtown area, planning on walking to and from there. QUESTION: Do you recommend changing dollars to Pesos?? QUESTION²: Have you take the ADO BUS up and down the Cancun Hotel Zone??
We’ve only ever carried USD or paid with our credit cards 👍🏻 not sure what bus you’re referring to - but we have taken the local city bus up and down the hotel zone many times. 👍🏻
Enjoy your video's very much as they are very informative . Have flights booked to Cancun in November and trying to decide between the Las America's or Riviera Maya palace in Playa del Carmen . Which one would be better ?
Thanks for watching! If you are beach people, I would say Las Americas. It’s also right in downtown Cancun, so you are in the action. Riviera Maya is more updated and larger. The beach is very hit or miss, depending on the seaweed. The food and service is basically the same at both.
so would you Riu Las Americas is better as far for the beach and food? We been to Riu las americas once and wanted to try to go Riu Kukulkan but i heard the beach water is wavy and can have a lot of seaweed..
We spent two weeks at the peninsula in October and all of the restaurants were terrible. The buffet however was excellent, but I would not return for the money we spent.
The beach is basically the same at both. That being said, we’ve never stayed at either - just visited for the day. We prefer the Las Americas a bit more bc of the lovely architecture and the laidback vibe.

We are looking to book at both las americas and Rui Cancun since we will be traveling with a 16 year old. Can you tell me if these two hotels are connected? Meaning can you walk through las Americas and get to Rui Cancun?
FYI - Las Americas is adults-only (18+). No, they are not connected - there’s a resort in between them, but it’s a short walk down the road. Also, it’s important to note that if you’re staying at Cancun, you do not have access to Las Americas. If you stay at Las Americas, you do have access to Cancun, but not vise versa.

No, you don’t have to tip everyone you come into contact with! You technically don’t have to tip anyone at all, but it is customary to tip a little. We usually tip the bell boys a few dollars, a few dollars at breakfast and lunch and a bit more at dinner - $5 to $10 depending on service 👍🏻 we also tip bartenders, but not for every drink.. just at our discretion. We also leave money on the bed every day for the maid. Hope that helps!
