kinda related, but Chappell Roan used to do meet and greets before concerts but had to stop because people would meet her and just straight up trauma dump on her and tell her super dark details abt their lives, and Chappell said she would have to hear these super traumatic things and then go up on stage like nothing happened, and it rly hurt her mental health so she stopped doing the meet and greets. people forget these viral artists are PEOPLE as well and not just images

I was thinking recently about the 2010s emo scene, and how it was basically the norm at the time to heavily trauma dump on these bands, and how that was not healthy for anyone involved. (The problems within the scene I feel added to this problem.)
I definitely think music can help us heal, I don't think we have to share every detail of that process especially the artist themselves.

That's just awful. And I completely agree. I feel like we view celebrities the same way we view fictional characters. I'm not so delusional to believe that the relationship between celebrities/influencers and their audience will ever be comparable to a one-on-one relationship; the nature of a parasocial relationship is that someone is kind of presenting themselves as a brand/product/character to people, and, in turn, people get attached to this character and give them support. However, I feel like we need a realty check every once in a while that everyone involved in this "relationship" is just a normal, very real, human being, though.

Artists (whether it be singers, dancers, bands.etc) are the last to get paid and the most exploited by the music industry, especially by labels. The Pussycat dolls dancers made todays equivalent to $800 a week despite selling millions. The Dallas cowboy cheerleaders were getting less than $200 a game until they petitioned and got minimum wage. Singers are given loans as an advance to make albums that they have to pay back to the record label by their sales, before the singer gets to profit. And that’s only talking about those artists who made it; not the poverty level hopefuls trying to get an opportunity to show their gifts.

I've heard of Ice Spice but I don't know a single song from her. I've heard of Charlie D'Amelio but I have no idea why she's a celebrity. I think this shows that the public is also having these viral people thrust at us and immediately expecting us to accept them, but there are so many being thrown at us that eventually they fall out of interest. Then these new celebrities clamor to stay relevant and maintain their popularity which I imagine can be very stressful.

She got famous because let's face it, a dumb, viral video shot her into the spotlight. *But* she's been able to maintain momentum because she's smart, likeable and true to herself. There's at least 2 or 3 audiences that she could appeal to and with a co-sign from an already well-known public figure within the LGBTQ/millennial/now Gen Z communities there was a clear opportunity to capitalise

This is exactly how mediocrity is bred, the girl is super young and has barely any life experience... She is going to be referred to some people who are going to completely take advantage of her, because nobody will take her seriously and she totally blew up her reputation down the line... When you get a massive amount of "recognition" without any work, without any talent you're not grounded in anything, what's left is you, you become your own product and brand and I think many people start losing it because all the boundaries start to blur there is no distinction between who you are, what you do.

I will agree that ice spice is objectively bad at music. A lot of her lyrics are repetitive and it doesn't really feel like she cares about her art.
That being said, i absolutely love her because i can't think of a single other rapper who could, with a completely sound mind, put the the lyrics "you think you the shit bitch, you aint even the fart" into a song much less use it as the main line the rest of the song is based off of.
