  • Colin Campbell, MBA ’23, says there’s a hidden force transforming our society - data infrastructure.
According to Campbell, data infrastructure is the underlying technology that allows hashtag#data to flow, be processed, stored, and used for various applications. But as it “increasingly [comes] to govern economic life in the U.S.,” he says, “I am both excited and cautious about the future.”
Campbell sees many positive impacts of data infrastructure, including more effective disease detection, autonomous vehicles, and greater accountability for law enforcement. “There’s so much this technology can do to make life better,” he says.
On the negative side, Campbell is concerned about people’s data being used in exploitative ways. “Organizations are becoming increasingly extractive of people and society because they are able to better collect data, analyze it more efficiently, analyze it faster, and do more with it now than ever,” he says.
Moving forward, Campbell says we will all play a part in shaping data’s place in our world. “This topic affects everyone,” he says. “Your voice can make an impact.”
