Narcissistic behavior is abuse. Verbal abuse is abuse. People who are in the same household where others are being physically and verbally abused day after day are victims too.

I went thru this with my daughter’s father’s mother, believe it or not. He passed away when my daughter was a baby and a few years later after my own mother died, I went to live with her since I had nowhere else to go. This woman was the most insane, narcissistic, abusive creature you could ever imagine. It was all like a plot to take my child from me. She filed an emergency hearing and claimed that she didn’t know where I was living (even though I was literally living in her basement and paying her $650/mo - almost my daughter’s entire monthly social security payment.) so when she went to court for the hearing, I had no idea since I had never received a subpoena! So, she got it by default. She knew I didn’t know. I was at home with my daughter that day because she had stayed home sick from school and my MIL literally had me doing a list of chores that day. Yeah, I was literally walking her dog and making her bed while she was in court claiming I was a deadbeat mom! I mean, I knew she was up to something, CPS was investigating me and she claimed it wasn’t her, but I knew it was and later on, I had gotten into her email and read all of the things she was telling the workers and anyone who would listen and it was just insane! Then, for the follow up hearing, she had kicked me out so I was homeless and of course, couldn’t get my kid then. And it was YEARS and a bunch of court cases where I was made to look like a complete piece of crap (because I do have a past and am in recovery. I have 6 years sober though and my MIL still drinks half a gallon of wine a night and takes a ton of pills, all doctor prescribed though, but of course she looks like a sweet, old granny to the court. The only difference between us is that I actually quit and got help for my issues, and she didn’t, but I get penalized for that!) 🤦🏽♀️ It was all about control for her and I just found it amazing that the court couldn’t recognize that. It finally took my MIL giving up because she could no longer control my daughter when she reached 13 and her daughter helped me get her out of there by going to court with me and testifying against her. This stuff happens and the court is used by abusers AS a form of abuse all the time! When will they learn what to look for?????

My judge sided with my ex. Did not want to hear about the mental and financial abuse. As a result I haven't seen my kids in 4 years.
My husband abuse me emotionally and financially during 17 years marriage. I have 8 months without my kids! No money to have a lawyer and no qualifications for pro-bono lawyer because an unnecessary restraining order he did against me. No spousal support, expelled from my house… It is unfair! But is the law in this country

No physical violence but I was isolated from my friends and family for 3 years while he controlled every aspect of me0. Through God's grace I learned how to emotionally detach myself from him and eventually safely got away. Unfortunately for me I couldn't find a lawyer who was willing to help me in court. Spent alot of money trying to battle in court and 51/49 was awarded. To a mother, that was like being in a nightmare you can't wake up from. Luckily after about 2 years of him having the kids every other week he moved on with his life and has left us alone for almost a decade 🙏🏼

Wow! Thank you so so much for sharing this I am so glad I found your post. A lot of similarities to my own situation, minus some details, but I am still stuck. Any advice on how to find experienced representation when the other party has all the control of finances and assets and I can’t find a way to pay up front? There are substantial assets but he has it set up by his family to protect him through a trust. I met him when I was 23 and he was 32 when his Mother arranged it. I was also swept off my feet and brought from Pac. NW to Tucson AZ where her Son got me pregnant and married me and took me to Virginia. I have stayed home and raised our kids since 2000, and now live in CA. I tried to leave to go home to WA in 2011 but he did the same emergency order and made me come back to CA. The last ten years his whereabouts are unknown and he withholds all financial info and records and I can no longer afford an attorney. Should I be looking for a pro-bono or a contingency lawyer or a low income DV attorney through government support group or something? Thank you for any advice.

It’s so crazy to me that even in this case the father was granted FaceTime access for a period of time, it seems like no matter how clear the abuse is, the mother and child are doomed to still have to have some kind of contact with their abuser. I can’t imagine how she must have felt having to facilitate those phone calls. Thankful she got justice in the end ❤
Just divorced my narcissistic abusive husband after 23 years. Had to live with him during the divorce and the name calling just got worse. He lied to my only family member that I had for support and has continually verbally and emotionally abused me. I want to sue in civil court for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress. Divorce attorney didn’t care about the abuse. Just split everything down the middle.
My husband Choked me out back in September, amongst other Emotional abuse I've endured for years... He does Armed security and Fugitive recovery for Bail..... I didn't call the police on him because I was scared he would be even more mad if he wasn't able to carry his guns..... So I begged for Marriage counseling..... He said he would get someone for us but he never did until Last month when he and I seperated because I just couldn't take it anymore..... BUT when we had our first session, the counselor gave us homework to do and he refused to do it. And he even spoke to the counselor nonchalantly about how he abused me. And it made me very emotional and even made the counselor upset...... So at this point I'm realizing that he Was never remorseful. And I need to know if I can still file charges for my own safety? .... And also, if I move out of state would I have to come back for court or could it be Via zoom ?
So sorry to hear this! Have you spoken to your counselor about finding someone to help you get out of the situation? They might have some resources since they've also experienced your situation first-hand.
I pray all domestic violence will end and the continual fear is removed so that people can heal. What can a person do if the County they live in is corrupt and you are not able to make police reports? If the abuser has used their influence and manipulation to have the courts side with him because he has friends and his lawyer did not send papers.
My daughter's abuser is in court as I write this for his detention hearing. He's threatened to kill her, beat her up and has physically hurt her too many times to count! Hes abused her financially, destroyed her car, isolated her from friends and family, made her lose jobs, had her as payee for his disability (from his mom as payee, who enables him in his abuse and drug use and alcoholism as well as use his money for herself) he's held her captive in his house many times, got her kicked out of 2 apartments, now facing homeless as she lives in another city than me & wants to still live independently instead of come to my house, stolen her money and property, her credit cards, and was mm asking plans (from help from his mom) to put a bed in the back of his truck and take off "traveling" with her. His mom told her to not report anything he's fine just come talk to her...he's been in and out of rehab, jail and sober living for years, (my daughter didn't know any of this until it was too late) and he's already got a long criminal history and several felonies. Waiting rn to see if they hold him till trial. But hey he looks like a nice guy, and he's nice looking and they live in a nice house in North Chicago....so looks can and are deceiving. Mother's 2nd worst nightmare. Glad to see an attorney on RUclips regarding defending the victim.....way too many defending the abuser. Sad!

hi, I'm currently living in florida. I recently got divorced and even after divorce I still feel spousal abuse from my ex husband. now I don't live with him anymore but the verbal and mental abuse is still there. I don't know what to do at this point.
Is there a reason you need to stay in contact with him? If not, have you tried blocking communications from him?

Hi! Can I get an order of protection although I have no police reports proving abuse. I have texts/emails of abuser acknowledging and admitting to what he did, I just never went to the police because we have a child involved.

First, I’m an attorney who graduated cum laude from a tier one law school, second I’m the victim on domestic violence. I’m been forced to testify before grand juries and at sentencing etc but your even stating of the facts is sick and wrong you continually put blame on the victim calling her compliant, willing, etc. you clearly have no idea about anything regarding domestic violence. And for the record “she was done being the property of papa” is a disgusting sentence
Gang stalking is what you describe here, only by countless "community" predators, criminals, sadistic jerks, and garden variety psychopaths. My "domestic violence" (DOMESTIC TERRORISM) has been for nearly 30 years of my stolen, and deliberately mutilated life.

This is such a messed up story. Pedophiles and creeps unfortunately seem weirdly attracted to the ice cream truck profession. But this situation he was pimping out the teen boys to be truck drivers.
Violence is physical. End of story.
Youve clearly never been verbally accosted, told you are worthless, told to go get raped, called every name you can imagine. Told to kill yourself, nobody will be at your funeral. Nobody loves you even your own parents abandoned u. Try coparenting like this. That will do more damage day after day than a punch or slap. Ive been physically abused as well by this person so i can tell you this emotional abuse will last a lifetime. The bruises heal in about a week. Both are not ok and both are abuse.
And I left him 7 years ago but it continues through coparenting . I got a pfa finally and writing a letter to the judge. However i domt know if i need to set up a hearing.
