  • Brewing coffee in a coffee press requires more than just saturating the beans in hot water.
    Make sure the beans are coarsely-ground (finer grinds will give you bitter coffee) and you use water that is boiled and cooled for 30 seconds before filling the carafe of the coffee press.

      Been brewing my coffee via french press for a month now and have watched coffee tutorials. One possible reason why your coffee tasted bad was how you prepared the coffee. Ideally, one should rinse the carafe (glass container) with hot water to preheat it. Then place on the grounds. Next, pre-wet the grounds until it's wet then wait for 30 seconds aka the blooming phase. Blooming is important as it released CO2 gasses which contributes a lot to the sour taste of the coffee. Finally, add water to its appropriate coffee-water ratio. I found that 1:16 ratio suits my taste but it all depends on your preference. Place the lid for 4 minutes (light-medium roast) or 3 minutes (dark roast) without pushing the plunger down. Once the timer is up, push the plunger then pour the coffee into your cup. Hope this helps.

    • @yummyph
      @yummyph  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hello! Yes, it should be pressed against the sides of the carafe so the grounds are captured by the filter. It shouldn't be too hard to press down but just enough to do the job effectively. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching our videos. Visit us again soon! 😊

    Do you have to use course ground or does regular ground coffee work also?

    • @yummyph
      @yummyph  4 года назад +1

      Hi! For this gadget, it's best to use coarsely ground because the filter is not very fine. If you use finely ground coffee, let the coffee settle to the bottom of the press. Don't pour the coffee ground sludge at the bottom into your mug. :) Thanks for watching our videos. :)

    Hi. My friend borrowed my french press and when she returned it i was surprise to notice that the filter or mesh plate is no longer level. Like when plunge it it goes slanting. I fear it won't filter properly. Does it affect the functionality of the french press. Thanks in advance for your reply.

    • @yummyph
      @yummyph  Год назад +2

      Hello! The mesh should still be able to strain out the grounds even if tilted we assume. One of the drawbacks of a coffee press like this is that the you don't normally completely empty it out. There is still some coffee liquid which contain the grounds in the bottom of the pitcher. So to troubleshoot and not buy another one, you can always rotate the filter so the coffee always drain through the properly level part. Hope that helps! Thanks for visiting and watching our videos. 😊

    • @yummyph
      @yummyph  11 месяцев назад

      Hi! If you reuse the coffee grounds, it won't taste as strong as with freshly ground coffee. Yes, to pouring in hot water. If you want to make a cold brew, you can pour that in but you'll need to let it soak and extract at least overnight for best results. Good luck! Got one of these for Christmas. What’s the advantage of using this over regular drip coffee?

    • @yummyph
      @yummyph  2 года назад

      Hi! This takes more time and is of course manual to use. This results in coffee that is darker, richer in flavor with a grittiness from the coffee grounds that you might get if the mesh isn't fine enough. Try it and find out which coffee machine you prefer. 😊 Good luck! Thanks for visiting and watching our videos. 😊

    • @yummyph

      Hi! Best to check your press since that will depend on your coffee press' mesh filter. If it's fine enough, it won't leave anything but the finest of grounds. However, it will nonetheless leave grounds in your cup unless you pass it through a super fine mesh or coffee filter. Thanks for visiting and watching our videos. :)

      Hi! Not cold, just cooler, but it should still be hot. It's around the same time as you would need to steep tea bags, which is around three minutes, so no. I hope this is a serious tutorial lol. You forgot to mention in the video that it is important to preheat the carafe, pre-wet the grounds but not immersing them completely, and let it bloom for 30 seconds for a tastier coffee. It's not also mentioned in this video that there is a difference with the brewing time if you are gonna use light & medium roast with a dark roast. A dark roast will extract quicker so if you will apply the same amount of brewing time with a lighter-medium roast, the coffee will end up with a burnt taste.

    "Brewing coffee in a coffee press requires more than just saturating the beans in hot water." ....and yet so many inaccuracies here.
    -Why press the filter from the start?? No stirring really? and can you see those coffee grinds not on water after pressing
    -4 tbsp to 3 oz?? then still look bland when poured
    -yes, slowly and gently, but those hands sure are not
    -so many left over coffee after pouring so not really sure here what that measurement is for
    watch Jeff Hoffman instead guys

      Hello! The way all coffee, the drink, is made is through water extracting the coffee essence from the beans no matter what machine you use. So yes, this coffee as with all other coffee is basically "coffeed water". :) Thanks for watching our videos. :)

      @@yummyph Yes but an espresso machine through filtering under pressure is much more effective in this extraction than just brewing. Brewing in a coffee press is practically the same methodology as the dissolved coffee, which is of course of the lowest quality. I have tried French-press coffee a few times recently and it's far less tasty than a good espresso. Cheers.

      A “real” coffee isn’t an espresso though lol. An espresso is an espresso made in an espresso machine. Which isn’t any more real than any other hot drink machine. Coffee makers make coffee, espresso machines make espressos 😂
