- Salisbury Cathedral is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals having been built in just 38 years (1220 - 1258) in a single architectural style, early English Gothic. The tower and spire (Britain's tallest) were added about 50 years later. The building itself is remarkable, a testimony to the faith and practical skills of those who erected it.
But it is much more than a historical monument. It is a living church and a place of prayer. As the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury diocese it is Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is also a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
This short film is narrated by David Oakes, with photography and editing by Ash Mills. The organist was Daniel Cook playing Louis Vierne First Symphony Final mvt. #1
I was lucky enough to visit England in 1990 & did take a day trip to Salisbury & Stonehenge. I thoroughly enjoyed England & the people & Salisbury. I only wish that I could return there for a much longer stay & see much more than I was able to all those years ago. Currently unemployed, can't pay my mortgage, & facing oblivion.
Look up Bob Proctor, will change your life x
Very moving post, Todd.
Sorry thst you are having those issues and I pray that they will become history, and you are soon employed and that you can return to England!
I live near the cathedral and it is incredible
I would travel all the way from Moscow to see that church
One of the best experiences I have ever had on RUclips.
Thank you for this well-timed and informaive video, and for the great music, too.
Read the novel ‘Sarum’ which inspired me to have a look. Visited on a bitterly cold winter day. Loved every second. Wandered around for hours, then had lunch in town and got the last train back to Fareham. Amazing place.
Yes this cathedral and town is definitely on my wish list of destinations.
This is a breathtaking 6 min video of a beautiful place that I will be visiting this summer. Can't wait.
Thank you Ash for your superb 'vision' in portraying my spiritual "home" ~ a glorious production! Roger
I'm atheist, but damn I love cathedrals. This is by far the best one.
It's very good but Durham is the best - the finest example of norman architecture in the world, it, and the castle the first ever UK World Heritage Site. It continually takes all the awards for best UK cathedral year after year. It also has a copy of the magna carta etc. I look forward to my next visit to Salisbury Cathedral in 2019!
Notre-Dame de Paris is amazing 😉
Atheism is soooo overrated.
Sgt. No problem
God loves all and His worship spaces are for everyone. I am with you thst cathedrals are awe inspiring.
You should include LaFammilia Sacrada among the most beautiful.
Beautiful cathedral and very historical!
David, thank you very much!
Just think you fly all the way from Moscow to London then travel by train to Salisbury to see this beautiful building but change your mind because of a little bit of slush on the road 🤔🤨
This video embodies so perfectly why I got so mind numbingly bored in Australia sun or not sun!
I'd like to visit. Could I have Juan Borgia as tour guide, please?
An incredibly beautiful cathedral with an amazing clock on it.
love mr oakes …...the best.
Thanks for posting this. I was hoping to find a video of the inside of the cathedral and here it is! Great to watch.
"pillars of the earth" brought me here.
Just got back from a trip there
Hope to visit one day.
Salisbury Cathedral is a living church that welcomes half a million people in a year from all over the world who visit as pilgrims, or tourists, or Russian hitmen.
The most stunningly beautiful cathedral in England..
Will there be a Russian version of this?
Kudos to your videographer. A splendid job.
Thank you! :-) www.AshMills.com
does george platagernet available for tour guide?
Two Russian friends of mine reccomend visiting this place with them should I go?
@soz99dvg I want William Hamleigh as my tour guide.... on second thoughts, maybe not!
An excellent presentation!
Salisbury: where medieval Gothic meets neuro chemical state-of-the-art.
Porton Down is pretty close
... sponsored by the GRU :)
Perhaps a subjective view of the cathedral and surroundings sir, but nevertheless an interesting video. Thank you. Blessings and peace
With luck, it will become a museum, like St, Sophia!
was this where HP was filmed
ColouredPixels I know I'm three years late but it was filmed at Durham Cathedral.
اين تمثال خلود الألم
Looks like Harry Potter was filmed there
It certainly does, and it's our home town too mini
A part of Harry Potter was filmed in the cloisters. I'm not sure but I think it was the part in the triwizard cup, when moody turns Draco into a ferret.
Great exterior by dull inside.
Winchester is the exact opposite.
Can’t hear a word with that discordant organ in the background.
Closed captions are available if you are struggling to hear the clear English voice of David Oakes over the world renowned Father Willis Organ played by Daniel Cook.
Try visiting this beautiful Cathedral yourself then rather than a virtual visit.
Salisbury Cathedral.. Wow, incredible ! BUT, I was HORRIFIED to find a floor commemoration stone to Edward Heath. Knowing what we now do about our former PM: I found this extremely distasteful to say the very least.
What exactly do we know about him now?

The Church of England is very progressive in many parts of the world, so it stsnds to reason that is would be so in England!
He was a closet homosexual
