23:48 Perfectly stated, about goals. It wasn't "beat Arslan," it wasn't "win the tournament," it was playing how you wanted to play without buckling under the pressure. The wins come naturally when your goals are things you can control, and even if the wins _don't_ come, your mental is still so much better because you _know_ you're improving.
I fucking love your perspective and your story with what went into that pop-off and why it all meant so much to you. I totally get it, I'm 26 myself from a similar background and that sort of "this is just the most I can top out at in life" feeling is super real and believing that its not and finding a way to break through it is one of the hardest parts of growing into your best self. New viewer, love what you bring to fighting games, cant wait to see what you'll do next
wish I could like this video more than once, that ending there about how your mindset changed and you straight away got results is inspiring. feel like a lot of us are aiming way too high and getting dissapointed when our expectations are not met, which is so demotivating when it happens. the way you bounced back from that is amazing man, ggs wp! the grind is finally paying off!
I've been following you for a while. Despite the pfp, I'm not even a Tekken player, I always played 2D mostly (SF, KOF, NRS, DBFZ, among others) but when I wanted to get back into Tekken for a tournament in my country, with a big cashprize and all expenses covered for a big tournament in Europe, I watched your content. Jack is my character since T6 when I still didn't know a thing about FGs and I started playing Tekken in Tag2. So despite not playing Tekken seriously, I wanted to participate in that tournament. I didn't win, but I can say you helped me in what I achieved out there, and some dedicated Tekken folks said my performance was impressive. I have all the best Tekken players in my country available to play with me. I was coached by the French G, also. So yeah... I miraculously made it to top8 and even a bit beyond. That's already in part thanks to you. But then this happened, I sadly wasn't there right as it happened but I rewinded. That, and the text under your Twitch channel, makes you one of the biggest inspiration I have in the FGC as a whole. I was a high-level Counter-Strike player, with FGs being really on the side. I was just like you, fueled by self-hatred, my approach of CS was unhealthy as fuck. At some point, I needed help to pull the plug. Thankfully, I was never agressive towards anyone but myself, at my worst I think about your post and what you did that day very frequently. Now, whatever big name I encounter, I know everything is possible. I'm not settled on a game yet, I'm still a small time competitor... i'm not even really settled on a game yet... I'm still young. Thank you Phidx.
Going through T7, even before we got close Phi, I’ve always admired your work ethic & how focused you were on the mental aspect of the game. You were truly someone I looked up to even before we got close, the ICFC top 8s, the wins, how you’d pick yourself back up & the grind. Fastforward and now we’re like co-students and warmup partners, my opinion of you has only risen, more and more proud of one of my closest homies that finally achieved what all the long talks were about. Everytime I think back to this set and rewatch the moment I get emotional so allow me lol. Love u bro
This headspace analysis and peek at the thought process is really enlightening! And I know it was a while ago but congrats on your win! That's awesome.
Getting educated on the tekkens after the algorithm fed me one of your videos, ended up watching a bunch of Arslan docs, now circled back to this to see you beat him! Genuinely amazing stuff.
thank you for this analysis, and thank you for sharing your personal story. failing to live up to expectations can feel crushing, and I'm happy that you've found success. and the wrestling 3 count celebration at the end was epic haha
The primal nature of your scream is one that we all can relate to if we've ever tried to accomplish something and failed over and over and over and over again. It is fueled by the resolve of belief in yourself. This is how you scream when you stand at the Pinnacle of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, planting YOUR flag atop the mountain of self actualization. #respect.
Really appreciate this breakdown on the inner thoughts you had during the match, shows me how cognizant fantastic players like you are even with small details. Congrats bro!
The breakdown, super cool. Wasn't aware that people analyzed every single second of the match like that, so that was super enlightening. And damn I felt your celebration too, what a cool dude and cool video.
Well deserved the hard work paid off the pop off was HYPE and WORTH IT! That win on Arslan was INSANE! Never give up, continue the grind cause your killing it bro!!🙌
So I’m very late to this because I just hadn’t felt compelled to keep up with the game recently but I just wanted to say I was losing my mind watching the VoD of this tournament, alternating between intense nerves and blazing pride. This was incredible by you, not just beating him, but *the way* you beat him. An incredible show of growth. Loved the emotion in the pop off, so well earned, felt like I could feel your sense of accomplishment through the screen. I’m struggling a little to put words to it but I just really wanted to genuinely express the joy I got out of watching your performance here and against Chikurin. Incredible. Can’t wait to see what you do through the rest of the tour.
I met you at a tournament at epic gaming in Milwaukee a year ago you were super cool and chatted with anyone that wanted to talk tekken. Keep grinding my man this was so cool to see
That's how you should react when you win at life not just Tekken. Would love a green screen version of the celebration to add to other things like: someone holding the door for you, getting a Starbucks gift card, finishing household chores, etc.
🎉🎉🎉CONGRATULATIONS DUDE 🎉🎉🎉 What you did was really impressive dude I hope too see you in more of these Man I feel you with the expectations man I hope too reach the same state of mind you are in someday because I'm in a similar situation too the one you were in 😅
First video I watched in your channel was the mishima ASMR korean lever video. And that got me into the korean levers. What an achievement to defeat one of the greatest players of all time. I cannot the feeling winning like that. Congrats man.
Amazing performance, could you give some advice on tournament nerves please? I'm starting tournaments and I can't get in the zone or I start thinking of useless things
5:48 That was actually B+1+2, it was used in order to parry you for taking plus frames but you were TOO plus. I forget what frame you can’t parry up to but yeah. Other wise love this analysis
Great insight my dude, congrats. Before I gave up the course, I was going in to the field of sports psychology, I don't know if you ever did therapy, but the way you explained your inner struggles and your mindset is exactly what therapists do to help a athlete perform in a competitive setting. At the highest level, the mental aspect can be the determining factor between two athletes.
I'm relatively new to the competitive Tekken gaming scene (I'm an old Tekken 3 player myself). I understand the loser of a game can change character and/or stage before the next game, but this is the first I've heard of P2 side being a disadvantage for pro players (although I always assumed it might be). Is the loser able to switch sides before the subsequent game? If not, why not? I suppose you could pull of certain grabs even if cancelled to get a preferred side.
I've thought about this too. It's probably just because it would result in a lot of lost time (signing out and back in, physically switching sides, etc.)
Although As A Pakistani , it is disheartening to see Arslan Losing But Man , You Played with some Good Defence , Congrats Phidx, Love your Technical Analysis ❤
I just found your channel from Brian F's vid. This is great stuff, man. Top tier analysis and walkthrough. Makes me mad I missed CEO last year. No excuse for it either, I'm in Orlando. You planning on being there this year for T8?

I saw this as it happened. Killer match. Good job bruh.
Man, you might need better things in your life.
confidence is key, you went into it and believed you could do it. congrats my man, the pop-off was fully warranted and deserved.

Not only was this a fantastic match and analysis, but a wonderful philosophical discussion of growth and happiness. Very well done
your story is like Lil Majin back in Evo, Glad you can reach this far! cant wait to see you again in next tournament Phi
"celebrated to hard" "didn't win the whole tournament" brother I'd also be popping off like this if i would have beat a literal world champion lmao
Getting educated on the tekkens after the algorithm fed me one of your videos, ended up watching a bunch of Arslan docs, now circled back to this to see you beat him! Genuinely amazing stuff.
Got so much respect for you, the grind paid off and you deserve every ounce of hype.

crazy man, good job. You were definitely highlight of the tournament
I remember this moment. Great analysis. Def one for the history books.

Paul PhiDx Intro Celebration
The main thing that makes Arslan Ash the best is he does not loose his focus until he wins the tournament
Great play bruh... GG... FYI we at PK all do mid button selection on our arcade sticks... Shout out to you! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Running on stage to congratulate phi was amazing the energy of the ppl cheering him on was unreal

Wonderful video

Any recommendations for those that want to compete? On how to start?
Go in, don't take it too seriously, and talk to people!

GG you deserved that pop off
Sick games, well explained.
23:45 Yo, if I took 2 games straight off arslan in a tournament I would be uber happy, too...!! Don't sweat it
Although As A Pakistani , it is disheartening to see Arslan Losing But Man , You Played with some Good Defence , Congrats Phidx, Love your Technical Analysis ❤
Awesome dude
the legend
Great analysis. I will now go and beat Arslan at EVO with this info 😈
17:44 how do i celebrite my victory 😂😂😂
Are you going to go over your other matches for the tournament as well?
Those people saying that you "over-celebrated" are just fanboys haha. Great play! ✌

Maybe!
Why do they hold these big tournaments even on Playstations? They are clearly impacting the players and holding them back.
Is PS4 Latency so different from pc one??
