Can you imagine how lucky we were in the UK to have the Two Ronnies and Morecombe and Wise producing genius comedy at the same time during the 70s and early 80s?

The word play was just masterful. May they both R.I.P.
I still remember "The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town" sketches set in the Victorian era and was a satire of the Jack the Ripper Story that they did.

The Two Ronnie's first appeared on British TV in 1971 Ronnie's both had been in show business since the 1960s now 54 years later the humour and the timing is perfect and their sketches do not age!

The writer for these sketches was generally just Ronnie Barker, using a pseudonym. He wrote the sketches under the name Gerard Wylie, and submitted them to the BBC, and no one knew it was him for years.

David Renwick, who also wrote the Mastermind sketch and One Foot in the Grave, wrote this sketch.

Ronnie Barker used to write the scretches under the pseudonym of "Gerald Wiley". He thought people were less likely to be honest about how funny the sketch was, if they new he'd written it.

As has been stated, Ronnie Barker wrote a lot of these sketches on his own under a pseudonym. It's odd to look at the man who looked quite distinctive and distinguished and then try to tally that with the myriad of different characters he could play, each, totally different to each other and from him. You need to see him as long time criminal, Norman Stanley Fletcher in 'Porridge', Arkwright in 'Open All Hours' and the myriad of different characters he played in The Ronnies as well as in 'Seven of One' and 'Six Dates with Barker' to really see this.

I'm glad you are getting into the classic Two Ronnies.God rest their dear souls. There was a lot of British themed retail consumerism among the clip. Cox's Pippins & Golden Delicious are apples, but with this and others y,you pretty much seemed to tag along. 'Butchers' is cockney rhyming slang for butchers hook = LOOK. London cockney market stall traders used coded words, often sounding similar to the original word they were intending to use, to hide whatever illegal contraband they were dealing or selling in, from the police. In modern times,if you are up on the cockney lingo, you can just drop the second word on some,to know the meaning
