Billy or "The Big yin" as us Scottish call him has been around since the seventies and is famous worldwide. The guy is hilarious and my Dad said he went to school with him which me and my brother didn't believe. My Da like many older Scottish guys did a fair bit of bullshitting when telling stories. And one day me & my Da were in The Smiddy bar in an area of Glasgow called Partick when who walks in but Billy Connolly himself. He ordered a drink, recognised my Da and greeted him. I got introduced with my mouth wide open and the look on my Da's face when Billy sat at a table to read his newspaper was priceless. A kinda "fawking told you so" look on his face, grinning like a Cheshire cat.😂
Billy is a national hero. From childhood in Glasgow, to shipyard welder and boilermaker, to Army Reserve Paratrooper, to banjo player and folk singer. He transitioned from singing songs and telling funny stories in between to full stand up comedy. Made some incredible TV travel series , been in a wide range of movies and created some very surreal art.

Even though he was well known in Scotland he got his big national break on the legendary UK chat show Parkinson in 1975 ( worth checking out ). His career took off . His influence on comedians in the last 50 years , not just in the UK Robin Williams was a huge fan , has been massive . He has been in many movies but stand up is his true love . Unfortunately in recent years Billy has been diagnosed with parkinsons disease which has led to his retirement from live performances . He has done many TV series usually travelling around different countries including the US , one being Route 66 . A very deep rabbit hole to go down and well worth every second . Billy is now 81 years old and lives in Key West Florida .
