The heartbeat was a callback to the traditional tale that was told at their wedding about the two hearts only being complete when they're together. I may not have always loved them as a pairing, but they gave them some fantastic moments.
Who would have ever thought that Colm Meaney would take a minor TNG character and build him across the franchise to be as complex and deserving of great scripts as O'Brien is in this episode?
I mostly agree with this comment, but don't think this episode is a very good example of a "great script". It's fine, but just a Donnie Brasco pastiche with no good reason given for Starfleet Intelligence tapping O'Brien for the mission.
Fun fact - Hes called Bilby because Nick is Australlian, was in Sons and Daughters in the 1980's! We love Nick Tate - one of our fave Aussie home actors. 2 awesome episodes.
I absolutely love these episodes. Honour Among Thieves is definitely a fan favourite, but it’s genuinely surprised me how many people don’t really like Change of Heart. Love ‘em both, but Honour Among Thieves is probably a top 10 episode of DS9 for me.
I wonder was O'Brien thinking of the Irish patriot James Connolly when he chose his alias? Actors: Nick Tate (Bilby) aka Alan Carter from "Space: 1999" was previously in TNG D9 "Final Mission" as less reputable character Leland Crooke (Vorta) was in "One Little Ship" (This guy might be his clone) Todd Waring (Lasaran) was in DS9 B14 "Whispers" as engineer DeCurtis Not Star Trek related, but Michael Harney (Chadwick) is probably best known as Sam Healy from "Orange is The New Black" Finally, I also agree that "Honour Among Thieves" is a good episode, particularly the relationship between O'Brien and Bilby.
Much love for Alan Carter! Space 1999 was the first sci fi series I remember watching as a kid (was in Germany at the time it aired, was about 6-7 years old). Alan and Maya were my favorites. So glad 1999 hit DVD, and eventually blu ray. Still love the show after all these decades (even though season 2 was a let down and they cut Alan's screen time, at least Maya gets me through it :)
We haven't seen Garak in a while because I think Andrew Robinson was involved in something else at this time. At least, he was supposed to be in "Far Beyond the Stars" but had another commitment and J.G. Hertzler played the role of the illustrator instead. That's why he had a line complimenting the architecture of DS9 in his drawing of it. It would have made more sense coming from Garak.
Remember early seasons where local Gamma Quadrant people told the Federation that if they wanted to do business with them, they would have to do business with the Dominion first. So it seems that direct invasion is not the first way the Dominion has to come to invade you, military action is a last resort. First they infultrate the local mobsters.
I'm not sure if you remember, but in the original series episode "journey to Babel"... It was the Orion syndicate that was trying to sabotage the admission of Coridan into the federation.
the thing is when you watch any show like this, you kinda know they wouldnt kill a main character like Jadzia, so you kinda know how things are going to turn out.
If you liked "Honor Among Thieves" I have a movie to recommend to ya... Donnie Brasco It's a mob movie (based on true stuff) with Johnny Depp and Al Pacino. It has a similar concept, but it's grounded in our reality. VERY well done. I'd recommend it to anyone into that kind of thing.
Honor Among Thieves- an O'Brien episode where only his conscience is tortured! Personally, I think Miles did the right thing- and whole knows what the Dominion could have accomplished if they'd gotten into the very backbone of civilization- the crime? On the plus side, O'Brien got a cat! Change Of Heart shows us the period of serving with your significant other. Sisko understands. Starfleet though ..? Probably not so much. The episode also reveals that Keiko has been away for six months- possibly contributing to Chief's agreeing to work for Starfleet Security in the last episode. Overall, a solid pair of episodes to lul us into a false sense of security just in time for the big reveal that Keiko has been a founder all along! Maybe not. No.... it's Molly! Molly has been a secret Dominion has been a shapeshifter- no! A Pah Wraith! NO! Molly is a changing possessed BY a Pah Wraith! I never trusted that little girl!
Well you said s while ago you wanted to know more about the Orion Syndicate, this was one episode i thought about, obviously i didn't mention it to you at the time.
The reason the Cardassian agent defected is the Dominion is more and more marginalizing Cardassia. For his faults, Dukat was able to assert himself and maintained an equal footing with Weyoun, if not being a dominant party. Dukat was able to do that because he was already an experienced and respected leader both in the military and civil spheres and accepted by Central Command and the population as leader. However, But as we saw in *Statistical Probabilities* Damar was already a junior Gul when Dukat was captured and leap-frogged 1000s of more senior Guls to say nothing of all the Legates. Weyoun doesn't respect him and pushes him around. Damar is a puppet and with that goes Cardassian independence. Someone like this Lasarian, who is obviously a very skilled intelligence officer, probably understands clearly that the Cardassians are firmly the very junior partners in the Alliance now. He also probably understands the true state of the War and the odds of Dominion victory. Either way, he's hedging his bets and looking to leave.
Honor Among Thieves is an obvious takeoff on the movie Donnie Brasco, a really good movie starring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino, which is well worth watching either for itself or for the light it casts on the inspiration for this episode.

You mean "Guy in Chair" in the TNG pilot? 😉
I mostly agree with this comment, but don't think this episode is a very good example of a "great script". It's fine, but just a Donnie Brasco pastiche with no good reason given for Starfleet Intelligence tapping O'Brien for the mission.
Both of these episodes pack a huge punch in terms of each character’s growth, depth, and development.
The first is amazing... could never get behind the 2nd one. Too contrived and I don't feel it's actually in character for Worf or klingons in general.
Fun fact - Hes called Bilby because Nick is Australlian, was in Sons and Daughters in the 1980's! We love Nick Tate - one of our fave Aussie home actors. 2 awesome episodes.
Nick Tate was also Chief Pilot Alan Carter in Space 1999. He was one of the fan favourite characters.
@@jadefalconmk1 Also Final Mission in TNG....
O'brien is now friends with Chester the cat 🐈
Just watched these then this video came up in my recommended on yt
Honour Among Thieves is such an interesting story. We rarely get Federation centred stories like it and it has a great atmosphere.
I absolutely love these episodes. Honour Among Thieves is definitely a fan favourite, but it’s genuinely surprised me how many people don’t really like Change of Heart. Love ‘em both, but Honour Among Thieves is probably a top 10 episode of DS9 for me.

Finally, I also agree that "Honour Among Thieves" is a good episode, particularly the relationship between O'Brien and Bilby.
The Bilby is a very famous actor from Space 1999 which you should put on the list :)
I’ve always wondered if Honor Among Thieves could be considered an “O’Brien Goes Through Hell” episode 😂
It's an O'Brien Must Suffer episode. His suffering took a different form this time.
Merry Christmas, Miles O’Brien! Enjoy your new friend!!!
Have a merry moogie Christmas
We've heard of the Orion Syndicate all the way back in TOS and TAS
I’ve always thought Honour among Thieves has a plot line similar to the Al Pacino movie Donnie Brasco.
Hey guys! Glad I could catch the live!
Miles of DS9, meet Alan of Moonbase Alpha.
Yes Nick Tate! Space:1999

His second Star Trek appearance since "Final Mission" from TNG if that's correct?
37:37 Oh my sweet summer child.
Thanks, Oliver! 🖖
Merry Christmas everyone 🎉

Weird to even have the thought that could have been Earth. We know it's a utopia, with no crime, and everyone lives in peace and freedom.
I'm not sure if you remember, but in the original series episode "journey to Babel"... It was the Orion syndicate that was trying to sabotage the admission of Coridan into the federation.

I always thought the writers were inspired by the movie Donnie Brasco for the first episode.

Wahoo, like #95!!!!! lol
Worf has just ended the future of his career. I would keep this in mind.
*_Chester._*
The wedding episode didn't make it into your DS9 playlist.
O'BRIEN MUST SUFFER
Miles Brasco

Gangsters and gangsterism is so boring. All gangsters are the same. Star Trek is best when it's an improvement and advancement beyond 20th century.
"Honour among thieves" never left an impression on me and is an episode I always skip on a rewatch.
I love Honor Among Thieves, and I hate change of heart.
100% agree. Always skip Change of Heart on rewatches.
The only episodes i skip on rewatches are the luwaxana episodes , Qless & a couple other season 1 eps@@morey92
Merry Christmas! (Luke 2 : 8-14 (KJV)) ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁
Obrien must suffer. Every season finds new ways.
