There is a whole lot to like on these newer ones. I got the bf-17h (or uv17pro gps). W9FFF, you should be able to hold down the 0 'zero' button to activate the built-in NOAA weather radio scan feature. Between the bf-17h (uv17pro) vs bf-18h (uv18pro), the 18pro has a PTT button that sticks out sorta like the Yaesu FT-65R & FT-4XR. The 17pro has a flat, the standard PTT button. I totally agree with you. The audio quality of these radios is outstanding. Both rx & tx audio. And the air band sounds better than most other radios including some scanners. Talk about upgrades. And that radio's english voice, color screen, 1000chns, 10 banks of 100chns each. Baofeng really up'd the ante with these radios. OASN: The newer release of CHIRP (June 27th, 2023) now supports the Quansheng UV-K5. 73 from n0vkg.
Add'l: There is a glitch I found in the firmware of the bf-17h pro gps. It might apply to your bf-18h. When the active VFO is monitoring an Air Band frequency, if you hold down the 0 button to switch to the NOAA weather feature. The firmware won't switch MODE to FM. It'll stay on AM mode. When you exit the NOAA feature, go to an FM frequency and then try the NOAA feature again. It should work normally. There is no harm in this glitch. I don't suspect they will fix this glitch as it's perfectly harmless and can be easily worked around.

@@HAMRADIODUDE It's not a problem, most of the cheap Chinese transceivers (And even a couple of the entry level Yaesus notably the FT-4X and FT-65) all employ similar chip ranges such as the BK4819 , AT1846S and RDA5802N . They all provide full demodulation inside the chip itself (Essentially a "radio on a chip") so they all have roughly the same RF performance and characteristics, they can improve the filtering externally but they all employ this direct conversion circuit to receive which is why they are all prone to overloading compared to a superheterodyne type radio.
@@HAMRADIODUDE For example, the BK4818 specification sheet does not even specify AM at all as a feature (Only FM.), and this is the chip that is featured in the radios that claim to have airband Receive. Most of the features that you see in the radio come directly from the chip such as CTCSS, DTMF ect. It is all built in.
I hate to break this to you but slope detection is FM detection by an AM demodulator. That's the opposite of what you claim it does. These radios detect the small amount of FM that every AM transmitter has and amplify it. Guess what? You can also hear the air band transmissions in the 250-400 MHz range in FM mode. Trying to add repeaters when it’s on frequency mode, it hits the repeater , when I put it on channel mode. I can see that the radio is receiving via the green light but I’m not hearing anything. I have the correct CTSS programmed in our also have the correct shift and the correct offset and have saved repeater name and it still does not seem to hit the mark when it is on channel mode Obviously there’s one setting or step I’m missing can anyone help ? …
Sounds like it's not saving the CTCSS tones within channel mode or somehow that channel is reverting back to the old ones. I don't have the radio anymore, I like to give things away after I make videos, But hopefully somebody here could speak up

My pleasure. It's kind of interesting to see that there's some new stuff coming out that's a little bit more unique. And there's some good comments and hear about how the AM isn't true AM and information of data sheets to research, this kind of stuff is great for learning! Thanks!
Could you use as much jerky motions as possible? It really makes actually getting a good look at the radio much easier. Are you Italian? They are known for talking with their hands.
I ordered batteries with a USB changer that worked once or twice. Now the charging lights don't work. If you want to burn your house down knock yourself out
You're going to hear a lot about "slope detection" from the poser engineers on the net, regarding AM reception in these radios. If you take the time to look up the term, you'll see that slope detection is used for FM detection, not AM. Doh! Exactly the opposite of what's claimed. All that happens in AM mode with these FM-only chipsets is that we hear the RESIDUAL FM that any AM transmitter has, because its power supply regulation isn't perfect. It's the error output from the receiver, in essence.
The batteries size & voltage will tip you off to the real big 10 watts radios that work all day. & which ones are counterfeit usually have small batteries with ridiculous claims The giant radios that actually put out 10 watts are large & are 12 volt batteries. My tyt high power crossband does have a 7.4 volt large 3600mAh battery that does 9.5 watts vhf & 6.7 watts uhf dies in less than a hour in a conversation. The giant radios last much longer.
So whats the deal with the hat, phones, shades , and water ..... what is your problem with the eye rolling and getting all up tight? If you have something to say, just say it. It isnt you that you are selling, its the radio.
I can now trust you as you are wearing your cap properly. 😂... and you are wearing glasses.🥸😊 Seriously though, I dont trust Baofeng and their dodgy spurs. It must sound awesome on every harmonic.😝👍

Nope. there is no Air Band Transmit. Well, technically there is a firmware bug, but it wouldn't transmit on AM correctly.
@@HAMRADIODUDE thanks that helps...what could us paraglider pilots use that is not financially prohibitive?..im in aus and the radio authority says no limits/ aviation not our deal.
For air band transmit? I really couldn't tell you that there was any. I'm not entirely sure though as it's prohibited here so I don't see too many. You might be best asking Hayden, ham radio DX
hi....i want to complain! ...not sure about which part, so its really just to complain!...is there an international action line ? hi hi . thanks for the viewing 73
Look in the battery compartment?
I'm not super opposed to it, but what for?
where can i buy it... can't find it like it don't exist
This is where I got it www.ebay.com/itm/256086186310
I’ve got a 18l should that rx airband??? Is there a hack for it ??
mine doesnt for some reason did you figure it out
Not sure what firmware/hardware version you have but my power output values were substantially higher than yours. I'm running 115/130 firmware/hardware version and my VHF is roughly 4.4w and UHF is 4.8w.
Can it receive Airband AM? Not FM.
It's FM mode masquerading as AM using slope detection.
@@pmr446 However they are doing it, the audio on the airband is excellent, crisp and clear and that's all that matters.
Trying to add repeaters
when it’s on frequency mode, it hits the repeater , when I put it on channel mode.
I don't have the radio anymore, I like to give things away after I make videos, But hopefully somebody here could speak up
It’s the Barry White radio 😊
It's the deepest voice I've ever heard on a radio... lol
I wish 220 worked with more power...
Simply, it just wasn't designed for 220
@@HAMRADIODUDE we have some 220mhz rptr in Dallas but I've never tried it yet.
Hi you review the uv 17 and the screen was not readable outside how is the display on uv 18 or bf 18 outside is it better then uv 17 or the same thanks grz ON3YNL
It's just as bad on the UV18. Thanks!
Yay! More e-waste!!!
I honestly can't tell if this guy is trolling @NotARubiconProductions or if Randy is trying to be a parody of him.
There.
That ought to offend both of them equally.
Randy takes on many forms.
@@HAMRADIODUDE "Some People" agree 🤔

hi dude....u have a uv18 cps....i have a uv18h but cannot use with uv18
www.miklor.com/COM/UV_Software.php There are three different softwares there that may work. try one of the others. Good luck!
The only thing I can find is the BAOFENG BF-F8HP - Why can't I find this anywhere? lol

Does that have a password feature?
Good Review - I have this radio aswell- have a unboxing /programming guide i made on my channel :)
🙂👍
where can I get one?
@Dude, your hat was crooked at the end. I can never trust a reviewer with a crooked hat. Nonetheless, thanks for giving the latest 'feng some poking and prodding to see if it's worth our time.
My pleasure. It's kind of interesting to see that there's some new stuff coming out that's a little bit more unique. And there's some good comments and hear about how the AM isn't true AM and information of data sheets to research, this kind of stuff is great for learning! Thanks!
Also, my hat wasn't crooked, my camera was 🤣
@@HAMRADIODUDE I saw that! Very cool. I learned something new.
Does it count if i watch twice?
Could you use as much jerky motions as possible? It really makes actually getting a good look at the radio much easier. Are you Italian? They are known for talking with their hands.
That's A chinese copy of the Japanese Yaesu 65r which has military drop and shock ratings
You look funny too. But, I trust you.
We all look weird to aliens, Phil
baofeng uv5r VS bf-18h?
I like the bf-18h. I plan on having another video out soon. The harmonics appear better than initially tested.
Where is the tx Tone?
Menu program channel which is the fourth option, TXCTCSS which is the 8th option
I'm offended...=)
I ordered batteries with a USB changer that worked once or twice. Now the charging lights don't work. If you want to burn your house down knock yourself out
I may get one for the voice alone 😂 ok maybe not..
Who is man😛 sound change ?
:D
Whats with all the hand movement on screen ? Kinda distracting
hand movements very annoying. Slow down.
😂
@anthonyspina4093 gives the best hand movements. A true professional that knows when to slow it down.
@@tracymoon4437 not to mention kung fu grip
hahaha "can't trust that reviewer" man these sad hams....
LMAO - Can't trust him!
not a bright spark , grow up
So whats the deal with the hat, phones, shades , and water ..... what is your problem with the eye rolling and getting all up tight? If you have something to say, just say it. It isnt you that you are selling, its the radio.
I can now trust you as you are wearing your cap properly. 😂... and you are wearing glasses.🥸😊
Seriously though, I dont trust Baofeng and their dodgy spurs. It must sound awesome on every harmonic.😝👍
The 1.25 meter band goes from 222 to 225 MHz. It's possible that the radio is locked out on 220 MHz where you tested it. Try transmitting inside the actual band boundaries.
223.5 - same results. 73
Mine Transmits on on the entire 1.25m band. So I suppose there are some firmware update issues. Mine is Firmware Ver1.5 and Hardware Ver1.30 it’s fully functional on 1.25 m, 2 m and 70cm.
I use a p25 best radio 📻 amp audio 👂 me bugs me is mac 📗.
