I've had a few requests for a lesson and tab for Khruangbin's new song May Ninth. It's taken a while but it's finally here!
Here's a link to a folder containing the full tab, chord chart and rhythm example.

Oh my, I can't play it yet, but after lackadaisically playing through every section to the very end, I can confidently say that this will requires a lot of deep work to learn and patience to master. How much more scoring and teaching it! Much kudos.
I am a student of Dan, and I cant praise him enough. He has loads of patience whilst being very supportive. If you are looking for a guitar tutor, give him a call.
Please keep them Khruangbin tutorials coming!
These are so detailed and well put together.
I'll be doing a mix of different stuff I think. But let me know if there are any particular Khruangbin songs you're after.
@@danharemusic Yeah, Como me Quieres was always the one for me.
They have other great ones ofc, - One to Remember, August 10, Lady and a Man etc
@@danharemusic The Austin City Limits White Gloves Intro solo might be a fun challenge for you!
@@user-cy3gz2fo7q Theres a Tutorial on the Nasty Soul guitar channel for that ;-)
Thank you so much for the time you spent putting this together and sharing for all. Incredible work 🙌
Thank you for taking the time to do this! Great work and wow Mark Speer himself seeing it!
You're welcome, I hope it helps!
Yeah very exciting, I didn't sleep much that night haha!
Haven't watched everything yet but this seems like a very thorough tutorial. Thanks a lot for you hard work!
It's about as thorough as I could make it without making a 2 hour video haha! You're welcome.
Thanks for putting so much effort into this! Hard to find quality lessons and tabulations!
Thanks for your kind words!
I am so happy, I just saw this! So much detailed work. Can’t thank you enough Dan. I am still on the A part, but it is so clear and helpful.
This is so good! Thank you
really nice to view and hear!
This is gold, thanks a lot, been making real progress thanks to your thorough explanation!
thanks very much for your kind words. I'm glad it's helped you.
If there's anything else you'd like to see, let me know and I'll see what I can do!
Absolute champion! Thank you very much for this! Subscribed!
You're welcome. I hope it's helped you!
Newbie here. I've wanted to play this for a long time, so it's my first song practicing on the new EJ strat. Your tutorial is brilliant. Thank you for the effort. As Khruangbin gets more popular this will get a lot of views. Subscribed.
Thank you, I hope you're enjoying the new strat!
Absolutely. I'm getting a fair few requests for more Khruangbin tutorials so I'm sure I'll do more. If there's any in particular you'd like to see, let me know.
@@danharemusic That is very kind of you. One of these might be good for a tutorial since they have clear guitar parts that sound good by themselves, and that I would be happy to try and recreate:
[1] 'The Number 4'. Up to 2:49, then it's masterclass.
[2] 'Three From Two'. A bit kitschy but nice. Not sure though if the many hammers ons pull offs are tutorial material.
[3] 'A Love International'
For 2 and 3 the easier parts of the songs would already be an achievement for me.
Good stuff!
Awesome effort, thanks a lot!
You're welcome. Hope it's helped.
Great song. Nice explanation. I love playing tbis.
Yeah it's ace isn't it?
I hope the explanation helped 🙏
@danharemusic Mark plays lots of cool off beat accents on this tune. I love his hammer on 1 2 3 pull off in the intro E section.
When I learned the chords and then the notes to this when it came out, the timing was the challenge.
Also, the four note riffs he plays after his ascending line in the A position has tricky timing.
Good video here.
There is a live video of this song, but the lighting makes it difficult to Mark's hands.
Awesome work! Subscribed.
thanks so much. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see on the channel.
Meticulous. Thanks very much.
Thanks, Pete. You're welcome!
Very nice 👍
Thanks mate!
nice! i was playing it between 7_9 :P
yep, easy mistake to make
Hello Dan,
Great tutorial.
Mark plays a "ghost" note just after the C#major chord in the first verse.
Instead of b2 b2 g4 g2 g1 d4...he actually hits..d2 b2 g4 g2 g1 d4. Mark does this in the first and second verse, then just hits the b2 g4 g2 g1 d4 the rest of the song
I noticed this while listening to the song in my car ( boston Accoustic stereo) .
I hope this is an good addition to you excellent interpretation of the song. ✌️ GT
Oh my god you do use your middle finger. The movement is so subtle from the other angle. I made this so much harder for myself. 😂
You don’t think he’s doing a pull off from C# to B on that run after C#m? That’s what I’ve been doing.
@@awwfishsticks Hey man, I'm not sure which bit you're talking about. Do you mean in bar 8?
@@danharemusic yessir
@@awwfishsticks cool. Honestly, I'm almost certain that B note is picked. It's got too much 'attack', to my ears, to be a pull off.
@@danharemusic yeah. Listening to it I agree. I still kinda think it’s open B he’s picking though, just from what I’ve seen him do with his hands.
Anyway, great lesson. Thanks for posting. I learned about finger style alternate picking with the thumb and index thanks to your original video! 🫵👑
