Hey, I was pissed off when I saw you only have three videos. You're easily the best spoken pf2e creator right now, and you seem to know your stuff. This is awesome earbud content for when I'm cooking and cleaning up. Keep at it, my guy.
The remastered Cleric is such a powerhouse. While positive/vitality Divine Font was always great, the class was sorta held back by requiring a lot of attributes. After the remaster though, both Cloistered and Warpriest have much more freedom to build into their strengths while at the same time not sacrificing the potential of their divine font.
Yeah, the Remaster really smoothed out this class and gave it a nice quality of life update. Now that the class is less multi-attribute dependent, it really shines.
Funnily enough you could be a heal font cleric and just prep some lower level harms by the time Cast Down comes around lol Also notably Cast Down is not an attack so you can Cast Down -> Harm -> Grapple / Strike
That'll be useful to me. Been looking at warpriest since Magus won't be in Dragon's Demand so looking other other magic/martial classes from CRB is neat.
Good video, a really nice type of video. A note on Pathbuilder's automation involving Deities: Pathbuilder uses the OGL and cannot include any Golarion related Lore. So, they COULD not include Deity automation.
@@ThrabenU_Gaming This also means that some names of things have been changed (pathfinder society agent was renamed to something like guild agent) If its a specific thing in Golarion Lore it will be renamed (on average)
Currently having a lot of fun playing a Warpriest of Ragathiel, switching between two hands with Sure Strike for damage, one hand for Athletics Manouvers, and casting both offensive and support spells. There's so much flexibility!
I enjoyed that and would agree Clerics are one of the best choices for Society Play as they are so versatile. Your comment about Champion dedication was amusing. It it still a powerful dedication for Clerics. Old Rules your Font was based on Charisma so there was more incentive to boost it but the shear options of adding Lay on Hands and a Champion Reaction to a Cleric are superb. Sure that is Your Level 2, 4 and 6 Feats sorted. You can also just take Sentinel or Rogue on the Cloistered Cleric to get some Armour Training or use your General Feat (another good reason to be Human) for Armour Training. You mentioned the Gnomes Energized Font. I like the feat but I think being a Wellspring Gnome is the only way to meet the Prerequisites of a heritage or ancestry feat that shares a tradition with your focus spell making the actual characters that can use it someone more limited.
Champion definition, on raw power level, is one of the most powerful archetypes. It MAY be worth warping your character to get, but you are absolutely taking noticeable hits to other stats like Con to do so.
@@ThrabenU_Gaming The way you say "Warped" makes it sound a bad choice. It is a design time option. A higher armour class means you will get hit less often making those HP last longer.
This video is GREAT. I’m a new GM teaching P2E to my players. We have never played a TTRPG before so I’m trying to have a good understanding of the classes so I can help them. The ancestry recommendations for warpriest/cloistered subclasses are great - other videos I’ve watched keep to just the class only so it’s great to have this knowledge - I’m sure I’ll be asked!
Thanks and good luck! The system is really simple and fun after you get past the initial wall of questions. I HIGHLY recommend the beginner box product; it's perfect for what you want to do!
@ thank you! We are about to finish the beginners box. I gave them some level 2 sheets so had a few questions there, then we jumped into the final kobold battle before ending. Im going to take them through Troubles in Otari and Abomination Vaults but conscious that I’ve built all the characters so far so want them to build their own. Perhaps we carry on until we get to a good point where they can make a back up character each.
Thanks for the tips, I'm going to talk to my GM about change Deities. My favorite weapon is a long sword I picked up from the first book. However, I don't get any bonus for it, because I select Calistria for her Divine Font harm or heal. I actually like the Versatile Font, it's interesting.
Gnomes are also great for offering a Familiar, Familiars aren't available to Clerics through their class feats, so getting an extra innate spell and a Focus Point is great. Also, with Independent and Spellcasting, it's possible to Command a Familiar to cast Bless (1 action for a 2 action spell!) and thanks to Independent, the Familiar can Sustain it during the fight. Clerics have great action economy feats (probably the best for spellcasters), with options for reactions and even some 1-action cool things.
I always love to play support characters, but haven't played a Cleric yet - when I want to play a character with a connection to a deity, I end up defaulting to Champion (or champion archetype) over Warpriest. But this bumps cleric up the list!
Champions are pretty nutty as well, so I get it. I have been very impressed by the Cleric both in and out of combat, so I hope you get a chance to try it out some day!
To the best of my knowledge, the reason gods have to be manually typed in and aren’t a dropdown is legal reasons. Pathbuilder having a paid options means there’s some stuff, largely setting specific things, they aren’t allowed to post. This is why any background based on a nation just says the non-nationality word as a name, they have a limited number of defined languages with any national one needing to be typed in, and things like the human feats related to being draconic just say “national requirement” instead of like Tian Dan explicitly
Great video! I'd like it if you could point out how you would deal with reduced accuracy for warpriests. Since strength isn't your primary stat, you'll have 1 less accuracy to start off, but you also get slower proficiency with weapons (7 instead of 5), so at certain levels you'll have 2 lesser accuracy at certain levels. Casting heroism on yourself helps for example, or sure strike through an archetype also helps. But I don't know if there's any other ways that are better.
Yeah, you have spell slots for Runic Weapon, Bless, Sure Strike, and other support spells to help with raw accuracy. That said, I think your turns are still good even if you miss a strike, as you're likely casting a 1-2 action spell for good value anyway.
Another way to get Sure Strike is to pick a deity that grants it, such as Ragathiel or Iomedae. Then you can start fillimg your lower spell slots with it when you're a few spell ranks in.
Another great guide, thanks. I sometimes consider playing a Cleric, but I'm not a huge fan of playing prepared casters... I think analysis paralysis would get to me, both in picking spells, and picking when to use my limited resources. What do you think of Flexible Spellcasters? I think I could live with having fewer spell slots on a Cleric, especially if I played a low-wisdom War Priest with buffs and heals. And the font slots would help. But losing out on my second level feat would be rough, and that's what tends to steer me away from it.
My gf is currently playing a flexible spellcaster Witch in a free archetype campaign. She is enjoying it. I don't think the flexible spellcaster is a good "optimization choice," but I think it's a fine quality of life decision that doesn't have enough drawbacks that it makes your character significantly weaker.
I'd be interested to see your thoughts on the new Battle Harbinger class archetype for clerics, as it leans much farther into the martial side of gish.
Wonderful! I can’t wait till Divine Mysteries comes out. The Domains/Spell List/Font Choice/Sanctification/Favored Weapon package make the Cleric one of the most diverse classes, but means we need a LOT more deities to get that niche Cleric you want. Edit: The Champion thing is more of a Legacy thing for a Font healer. Go CHA instead of WIS, grab Champion: you have lots of high level Heal spells, gain Heavy Armor, pick up Lay on Hands, pick up a Champion’s reaction. It’s definitely not as strong of a thing in Remaster as you don’t need CHA to do that and Champion archetype doesn’t auto-give Heavy.
I think it is already very easy to try and "spreadsheet out" the exact deity that fits your role, but I always love having more options! I'm constantly impressed by new pf2e products.
Being lazy on spell preparation is my pet peeve for clerics. Don't just have your favorite spells and then complain when your spirit damage can't hurt a construct. Work your deity into asking questions about where you're going, ask your dm if you can investigate about that hideout you're going into, prepare your spells accordingly. Also for a less daily option, utility scrolls can be the tide changing thing between having to deal with annoying stuff like concealed enemies or not. Clerics have a lot more choices because divine font opens up their spellslots for other things. And don't ignore staves as extra spellslots for a long day. Save your big hitting divine fonts for combat by using a healing staff for out of combat healing.
I have not got a chance to finish this video as I only watch a little on my break but my first real campaign character is a skeleton(gnome) cleric who worships Urgathoa, super fun playing with all the evil cleric spells and using harm even tho I had to spec my cleric to work in a party of non undead. My big thing is a lot of spells I feel like I need to know what I fight before hand to get use out of but maybe you give some tips later on about prepping spells because it feels so bad at the lower ish levels to prep spells that cure conditions that I may not know are coming as my character is not super good at recall knowledge, I still like playing casters but I feel like I have a lot to learn.
Generally speaking, I usually don't try to remove conditions during combat; I deal with the conditions that are imposed. Most conditions wear off gradually within a combat or becomes largely irrelevant afterwards. "Ending the combat" is often the best way to treat a condition that you aren't ready for. In my couple of campaigns, we only had one dire condition related situation- a disease imposed by a boss. That became a week-long dire situation that we had time to reprepare spells for and buy consumables to help. In preparing your spells, if you KNOW or highly suspect certain things are coming, you can prepare appropriate countermeasures. Sometimes, frequently even, you won't know what's coming, and you won't have the exact spell you need to counter the scenario. That's where you learn on your other generically good Cleric abilities to get you through!
Enjoying these videos. Although, I laugh every time you say something like "heal yourself whilst bonking" , cos...er... well... bonking is informal British slang for... intercourse...
