Foamy Hitohada gel is the often forgotten third option when it comes to making DIY squishies. It's a two-part polyurethane foam that cures extremely quickly, compared to the 48-36 hours of milky and transparent Hitohada Gels. I've used this one before in a video and found it very difficult to control. I decided to revisit it again and this attempt was equally tricky but I did learn a bit more about the material. You only need to pour 1/4 of it into the mould as it expands a lot while curing. The foam can't be touched after it's been poured because the texture will collapse. It's not ideal for very small "sticking out" details like ears. The final piece can be coloured with paint or pastel dust, and I recommend the latter the preserve the slow-rising qualities of the foam.

It seems like foamy Hitohada Gel is out of stock everywhere. I'm not that surprised as I can't imagine there being a huge demand for something so difficult to use. The other two types of Hitohada Gel can be found Etsy:

My issue with the actual pull-apart foam squishies is that once there was a torn edge I'd pick at it until the whole squishy disintegrated lol
Yes I find that a bit too tempting as well!
@@maqaroon hehehe
same lol
I wouldn’t tear it because I’m hurting them.
same ;-;
With the excess foam you could use small scissors to trim and remove material. That way you don’t disturb the curing process and material
Make sure to use a good mask while using polyurethane, it’s an exothermic reaction and it does produce fumes even in a small batch.
Thank you for the tip! The foam didn't have any smell at all (one plus point) and it didn't occur to me that there might be fumes. At least nobody has a shortage of masks now 😂
@@maqaroonYou'll need a ventilator mask rated for fumes. Regular face masks won't do anything.
Reminds me of flex it foam 111 that we have in US. Some tips I’ve learned is that you need a heavy amount of mold release for certain materials (like 3D printed molds). Only stir for 15 second, any more will cause errors in the cast. And what temperature the room is, is super important and will change the texture of the cast! Flex it foam comes in huge packs and is super reliable if you follow the instructions well
Aah interesting! Thank you so much for the tips
Is no one gonna mention the little ditto blob at 3:14 ? So cute! Loved the actual squishies as well!
The ibloom thing is unsettling lol. Paying quite a bit of money just to rip it apart. What if it rips in the wrong direction 😭
I thought it was quite foolproof but I did end up ripping the second squishy a bit lopsided. So it sucks if you bough the whole thing and accidentally ripped it wrong 🙈
I’d just keep them the way they were because they’re cute little buddies
@Miaka jane Managuit ummmmm. Honestly, try it yourself on a squishy, and try to get the smoothest cut you can….
It’s literally so hard to do, I’ve done this and it’s pretty hard
@@abbybabby333would a wire cutter on low temp work?
You can get an extremely realistic-feeling skin effect with smooth-on silicone if you thin down Soama Foama with about 20% silicone thinner and 50% Slacker tactile mutilator. And slush-casting a thin layer of DragonSkin onto the mold interior before filling with foam can make it even more realistic-feeling.
Another aspect that's super important for foaming resins is that you really want to use a fully-enclosed mold that can provide back-pressure against the resin as it expands.
Why does this sound like tips to make a d****
I think that using a real fluffy brush made for makeup would be ideal for applying colours to this. You could really blend it out like you do with eyeshadow, I think it would make colour application a lot easier.
Japan has so many interesting craft supplies, I'd honestly like to try them all.
But *the shipping prices,,,*
My greatest enemy
I feel ur pain
The base 18$ shipment is always so rough 😭
I don’t really get the point of tear apart squishies. You just end up with two squishies with raw exposed foam on the bottom and rough edges. And the tearing apart thing is only good for 5 seconds while you do it then end up with just two squishies.
I don't like the idea of ripping them apart either, but I think its gimmick is supposed to be like a friendship/couple mark kinda thing. No two rips are the same, and only the one originally ripped from it fits perfectly with it. But nah I'll stick with couple jewelry, not gonna tear my precious babies apart.
Same lol
For the ibloom squishies I would just take off one of the key chains and just have one giant squishy key chain. I couldn't live with myself if I carried around a squishy with exposed flesh. Theres no way I'm paying that much just to destroy it.
Hahahahaha I like your way of thinking 🤣
OR, okay, ORRRR.
You could ad a necklace chain and have a long dangly squishy necklace!
@@gksora That would be cool too
Ihy
I’ve always loved your “experiment” videos on new products because they’re so comprehensive and easy to follow as you try many alternatives to make it easy for people at home to follow! I always look forward to watching them.
I wouldn’t say the cat one was a fail! The finished product reminded me a lot of a Scottish fold 🥺
Professional moulder here! Easiest way to do the first type of design (with small details) is also the hardest. Need a 2-part interlocking hard resin injection mould. Would have to make keys and everything.
Wow thank you for the insight! I'm not at all familiar with molds (aside from the small putty ones I make for squishies) so I had a feeling this one needed a very different technique
3:14 not the tiny Ditto made from the extra clay lol
Haha yes! I made loads of Ditto molds with that for squishies
The pull apart Squishies are such a cute bff gift! Help each other pull them apart like a wishbone and laugh about any imperfections that make the squish unique!
Your videos give me a sense of nostalgia since I’ve been watching for years, keep it up Joanna :)
Thank you! I still use the same music from 6 years ago and it's giving me major nostalgia as well 😂
I used to watch you so much during my childhood!! Glad youtube recommended your channel to me, you are one of the reasons why i still love collecting cute things till this day as a grown teen haha^^
Same! I clicked on this bc it looked interesting, but their voice the channel name seems really familiar! I have no clue which videos I used to watch, but I definitely watched this channel in middle school.
I don't even go here (I'm not into squishies, I'm not into making squishies, I'm vastly outside of my realm of interest, I don't even know how I got to this part of RUclips) but your videos are so cool and detailed and thorough and creative that I keep coming back.
Can you try to make molds out of the teeth retainers. The clear ones that you can buy off Amazon that becomes soft and moldable after you boil them.
That's a great idea!
That's an interesting idea, since she sometimes uses a product called oyumaru which is something very similar but designed for that purpose. It would be cool to see the differences. There's also a product called "thermal plastic pellets" which I think people use for making models?
i love the little ditto you molded😭😭💕
Yes, I made that out of some scrap clay and might create an army of squishy Dittos for a future video 🤣
@@maqaroon send them out to Ukraine 😂
The instant i saw you bring out the chalk pastel dust I knew that would be the winner, lots of dollcustomisers use it to blush and apply colour to different parts of dolls, some even use it for the hair to make it look softer! Definetly fits the style you were going for here, I'm happy you found it useful!
The squishies are adorable, i love the little tabby cat!
i would love to see if the other hitohada gels work for the the tear apart squishies!! 🎉❤ love your channel so much btw
"You have to forcably rip the animals apart"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I loved how these squishies turned out! Have you ever thought of using candle gel for squishy making?
Aaah that's a great idea! I actually have a candle gel kit that I bought years ago and never go around to filming, and it never occurred to me that could work for squishies! Have to try it out
The polymer broke because it wasn’t baked completely. The baking is actually a chemical reaction involves heat and time. It should be baked at temperature for 30 minutes for every 1/4 inch of thickness. A one inch piece needs two hours
Omg I haven’t seen this channel in years, I remember watching this in middle school and high school. I can’t believe this channel is still doing pretty well considering diy was basically a trend back in 2015-2017 and it was basically dying out since. I might get back into watching them again cuz it’s basically like therapy for me 🤭
It's great, the content attracts viewers
the shape of the finished chick and pig squishy makes me think.. if you purposely overfilled the mould, could you make a four way tear apart squishy?
U made my imagination go to far by me imagine that HUMAN FLESH IN HITOHADA GELL THAT GAVE ME THE CREePS
I like my comment bc no one does
If this came with some kind of paint to seal the exposed edge, I’d buy it 100%
i actually screamed when you tore them appart, its just feels painful
i don't get why anyone would want a squishy that they *have* to ruin. torn squishies are like a magnet for hair and dirt to get all up in there
Really amazing and love all the effort u put in for every video!
Things I love abt macaroon:
1.docent clickbait
2.is amazing at art,clay,sculptures,Squishy’s
I love your videos, you’re so talented and fun to watch 🥰
I would just never pull apart the pull apart squishies I’d feel like I was ruining them
I love watching your videos every week is a new creative idea on how to remake/diy a new trend!
💜💛💙🧡💚❤️
I wonder if it would help if you invested in a more accurate scale that goes out to tenths or hundredths. Fancy ones like they use in labs (with wind-blocking) might be expensive but worthwhile to save you resin?
This looks very interesting - I'm on a constant lookout for something to replace foam latex for stop motion puppets. A light set foam with a high flex like shore A 20, and a lasting durability. The problem with foam latex is the long process with many components, and the sizable amount you have to make for a batch to work, and the up to 8 hours long baking time. You've been through so many of these materials, and I wonder if you stumbled upon any that you would see fitting the purpose. That being a foamy clay that cures up, but stays flexible, or a substance that can be cast and baked. I can't find the product described in this video on Etsy, only the milky gel and the transparent one. So if you could post a link it would be great. All thoughts will be really appreciated. Thanks !!
im having a bit of acute insomnia lately and your videos help me relax so much at night, finally getting a good nights sleep for work in the morning. thank you!
Thank you so much, glad they helped 🥰
Yay finally I’m on time :)) love u all
so glad to see your video pop up on my feed again :)
I don’t get the gimmick of purposely bracking the Squishy, yeah sure you end up with to Squishy than one but they both will have huge tears that frankly look ugly.
Yeah I thought it was odd but somewhat unique since there have been all possible variations of squishies over the years. They also have a donut design (inspired by those round mochi donuts) that can be torn into many smaller pieces.
I just found this channel and I just wanted to say that watching your videos makes me feel so calm and at ease. I think it’s because your voice is so calm and you put such soft music in the background at just the right volume so it’s not too loud but it’s not too soft🥺 I literally felt like I was sitting next to a fireplace on Christmas night while watching your videos❤️
The meaning behind the name is indeed very literal of Japan 😄 but they make such amazing craft supplies!
This is so cute the cat looks like a bread bun
What is the difference between the foams that causes the slow rise effect? It's not the paint since unpainted bought squishies still are slow rising....
type of foam density. Not sure I can explain it well but the softer denser foam is the slow rising kind
The little clay ditto makes me happy
Beautiful work
I love your content so much . Thank you for making my day 😊❤️. Hope you have an amazing day !!!!
You have an amazing relaxing voice, you should do audio books
I don't like how tear-apart squishies can have a ragged edge! I'm okay with tearing the conjoined twins apart tho.
Messing up on a squishy is like pez falling out of the pez dispenser. Ngl.
The duck would probably be my favourite! Great video!
Those blue and pink cat pull aparts in the beginning were so cute!!
The kitty looks like a Scottish Fold 😄
I didn’t notice this was so early until I opened the comments 😳 Great video!
Same 😳
Same!
fyi, never use fabric paint. it's not versatile, industrial or efficient enough. use acrylic paint mixed w fabric mediums like Liquitex's 'Professional Fabric Medium' or Golden's 'GAC 900 Fabric Medium'. they're one to one ratio which means it'll dilute the acrylic paint itself as well. it creates a soft finish that can be heat set and laundered. you can, then, use different mediums to dilute the paint or change its nature prior to adding the fabric medium. that way you can even use acrylic ink which can act like a wash instead of a full coverage paint job.
it doesn't matter the fabric. I've made acrylic paint and inks work w the fabric mediums. it's even unnecessary to use leather paint tbh. after you gain experience using the fabric mediums and/or in junction with other ways of modifying the nature of the paint you'll get an idea on how to tweak things. the only fabric I wouldn't use this on is silk and that's cz silk has its own chemistry, extra of other natural and synthetic fibers. it's the only excreted fiber and excretion proteins have a different categorical chemistry than assembled proteins.
Oh Japan, I love you… vibrant beautiful culture, awesome art supplies, awesome craft supplies, anime, coolest gadgets….*HUMAN SKIN GEL*
Haha yes! And the fact it comes with a very cute mascot that looks like a liquid blob of...human flesh (??)
Did you ever consider poking a very small hole in the locations where the ears were? This way it can push out the air while it expands and with how quickly it cures you shouldn't get much seepage.
I remember watching your videos when i was in middle school. You still upload such cute content this makes me happy.
This is so satisfying 😍😍😍
Your tutorials are so detailed and useful I’ve wanted to try making squishys and your videos are super helpful
I wonder if watercolor would work for coloring these, you'd have to be more careful while it's drying, but in theory it would work
Reminds me of when I asked my grandma for her skin when she died to make skin squishes. I was like 11
That’s…really fucked up
@@UwUlilbby666 I was a very unsocialized kid.
As soon when I click on this I knew I would watch this like for a long time
you could use a big hunk of clay and carve it into the shape you want then you get sharp edges and a peice that won't fall apart! also these videos are so relaxing I love them I used to make sock stuffies
maybe you could try fabric dye to colour foam like that?
This is so cute!
The squishies look so cute!
oooh super cool!!!!! i can see sunny-side up eggs that bled together in the pan, mochi, dango, or melting ice cream made as tear-apart squishies. super cute :~>
I don't know how you'd do it or if it's even possible, but I think it would be cute to make a steamed bun (with a kawaii face for maximum distress) that you tear apart to find the "filling" which is like a polymer clay charm or something.
The creators: ok people we need a new product that is super hard to work with but the results are so good that people keep buying it to try again
The Lil polymer ditto is cute
Woaaa the cats is Soo cute
I feel like the idea of pull apart squishes is cute but there is a lot of the raw foam showing and the key chain part it to hard to squeeze
This would be such an interesting collab with Moira Elizabeth!
I would just use Smooth on products for making foam art stuff. That kit is expensive.
True...it's also a bit easier
If I had a pull apart squishy, I would probably leave it as it is! 😅
Love your content and try to make DIY squishy shaped like money and make a squishy wallet thats a challenge from me good luck!
Could you do this with memory foam and like shaping it into the shape?
Hey I'm early for once. I love your videos so much. I have been watching your channel for years. You are one the first youtubers i ever started watching. Thank you for being good at what you do :)
Thank you so much!
i thought the koala & cat squishes were the one you bought, turns out it’s the diy one! your colouring skills is amazing!!
But don’t you think the gel is to expensive so can you make a video trying make squishy gel or foamy gel or hitohado gel that you find on google please😊
Yes unfortunately Hitohada Gel is very pricey so it's more of a DIY just to make for fun, or if you specifically want to make a squishy in a certain design (eg as a gift). It's probably not suited for making squishies to sell or using on a regular basis
I want to see what would happen if you mixed the colorants in the squishy
3:14 ditto!
The koala 🐨 and cat 🐱.. I’m dying 😵❤️
where can you buy these??? pls🥺
Tysm !! For telling us it’s so helpful
HEOSNIQNSIOAKS OMGGG!!!! I DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE POSTING AGAIN!!!! IM SO HAPPY I REDISCOVERED YOU
I love them
pls relpyyy love ur vids(hope u post long videos more often) love from Australia ♥♥♥
These look hard to use but I think you can do it 💙
ur voice, oh, ur VOICE is soooooooooooooooo calming
I wonder if you could soak the squishys in rubbing alcohol for a lighter easily blended almost watercolor effect
you should paint these with an airbrush!
Cute video!💖💖 I hsve some question why you don't use plastisol for making squishy anymore??
Good point! The plastisol gave off really strong fumes so I didn't really like using it. Another reason is that it became very hard to get...I originally ordered a set from Amazon but it's no longer stocked there and now it's only sold through a few small online shops who don't ship to Austria 😬
Omg could you experiment with making a beauty blender with this material??
These are so cute
3:15 has a little ditto
