Each concourse has its own security check point by TSA not the gates. The passenger departure terminal was built in the early 1970s and the baggage claim was in the area now occupied by Southwest, Delta and Spirit. The nearest Air Force base is in Hampton, Norfolk Naval Base is closer to the airport.
the baggage claim area is bigger than the terminal. Im not sure Id call it "teeny tiny" as there are 2 concourses and a 3rd planned I hear. if you want to talk about a small "International" airport, visit Daytona Beach Int'l airport. There are 3 airlines served as of October 2023; Delta, AA, and Avelo JUST started. There are like 6 gates.

I know that I’m a bit late, but you haven’t seen a small airport until you’ve seen Salisbury airport in Maryland. I thinks there’s 1, maybe 2 gates.
No way really????
