Love your lessons Jason and your heartfelt soul-opening. I'm a very novice harp player in my 70's and loving the instrument - can't bend properly yet, but will get there. Any chance you'll come over to England sometime?
Jason I totally understand what you’re going through. Things from our past that we keep locked away have a sneaky way of resurfacing every now and then. When I lost my sight over night I thought I was worthless as a husband and a father. That was 15 years ago still here. They say what don’t kill you makes you stronger. I think you are a very humble person and stronger than you think. Been learning harp since 2017 and your lessons have given me a great deal of knowledge on this little instrument, sure there has been times when I thought about giving it up but then I think you have overcome bigger things in your life. Thank you for all your hard work giving us Free Fridays , even when you don’t feel like it. Best regards Tony
Thanks Jason keep the Blues going the spirit in us is better than the negatives that tries to confuse you and me and all of us God bless and protect against anything that tries to hurt Jason and his family and friends thanks again 🙏 love and peace
Thank you Jason for the wonderful lesson. Also what you said about going through something so we can help others down the road going through the same thing…Thank you, I really needed to hear that right now….and will apply that bit of wisdom in my life.
My brother you are an Amazing person and your harmonica skills are off the charts. Stay focused and stay positive the vibe you just put out, we’re listening… Thank you
Great stuff Jason - 42 years in the program and still learning. Listened to the podcast of you talking about your life and battles, I love listening to the stories that shape us. There are so many lessons. You may be struggling at the moment but man you have the right attitude. Nothing gets me out of myself and than working with others. Every lesson you put together is service brother. Love it ♥️
Beautiful!! Thanks for another awesome Free Friday. Mrs FieryHarmonicaDude is out in London for the day, so I look forward to a good few hours work on this today!
I've been playing that Ellington's tune for ages now 'cause I had it stuck in my head for some reason and I found it useful to practice the 4 overblow, and now thanks to you Jason I can finally recall where that came from! Thank you so much, not only for the music! ❤️
Love the way this sounds, very pretty indeed. Cant wait to practice and get it in my repertoire. Saw you and the bad kind in laguna beach a little over a week ago, you guys tore the house down! Best wishes to you and yours this holiday. Thanks for the free lessons.
Now that's another #FreeFriday lesson, Jason. Wishing you all the best in 2025! From the Southern Underdog of the Blues; Shawn Adam Williams! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I can only imagine how difficult it is to be an artist on the road. Have to do all that manual work of commuting and driving. Not even mention the incredible stress and danger of just being on our highways. And, then having to take the stage to be fully present and perform. As someone who has tickets to one of your shows on this tour, I THANK YOU in advance for such a heroic and courageous endeavor! I'll be preparing extra batches of my homemade banana bread for you to take on the road with your band and it will be made with gluten-free flour in case Caitlin is sensitive to that ingredient. ☮️💖☯️
Hey Jason...This was a top lesson; I immediately did the classic 3 half step bend scoop up to the 3D on the 1st phrase and soon added notes b4 and after each of the phrases the possibilities r endless. Adam G actually has a lesson on chugging or vamping where just as an example of expansion he moves from the vamp and uses your exact 1st two phrases from this lesson but then comes back on himself as 5d,4d, 5b,4d...3d,2d,3d',2d...before resolving back to the chord vamp. Your advice on accurate 2D and 3D bending is key, I shedded this right from the start 4 years ago and its paid off. Jason perhaps u might consider your solo at Rock n Roll hall of fame for a future Butterfield Free Friday. No tab, just show us how u played it (a bit slower) so that those that want to can try and ear train it like a Ronnie Shellist lesson 😀❤😎
I think this is a great video for getting into jump blues too; the 6th chord ideas followed by the darker stuff. Jump is so snarky like that. Starts out pretty, then hear comes the greasy stuff 😂
Epic ma man… I bloody love your work.. I bought a harp for my 50th birthday 4 months ago and I am now on an awesome journey learning a new language.. I bloody love your work brother.. keeping it real and inspiring✊✊💯😎
Things ain't what they used to be !!!! Wow, I drummed for my Father inlaw, We closed with that... He played with Merca Ellington on some shows.. Replaced Johnny Hodges on lead alto sax. Great lesson as always.Your honestly in life and music is appreciated.I still struggle with trying to learn all this. But without you on Patreon it would be impossible. Thanks from Patreon,MadDog.
hey man, I was just watching your buggy video when you’re out in the water and when you put the draw and blow notes at the top of the screen in the big letters with the blue outline for the first time since I’ve been legally blind, I could read those you don’t know what that means to me.thank you so much even though you may not been thinking about people like me wow😊
Moon Cat !! I'm gonna try something like this on she talks to angels by the black crows. I always learn something here !! Get Well soon! ALL HAIL FREE FRIDAY !! Austin- 3:17 🌛🐱!!!
To be clear these are 6th chords, not vi chords. For example, the extended tonic (I) chord here is a D6 (D, F#, A, B), while the submediant (vi) chord is a Bm (B, D, F#). Their notes overlap significantly, but they serve very different functions...and created a very different sound/feeling...within the chord structure. Don't you just love how Music is Math _within_ Math? If ever there were a _Science of Emotional Expression,_ Music Theory is it! Either way, another good 6th chord exercise...which you actually demonstrated in the video...is the intro to _Pride and Joy_ by Stevie Ray Vaughan, building bass line skill. P.S. Speaking of overcoming hardship in the name of self-improvement and worthwhile goals, I'm currently sick, too, _but_ I found that a head and chest cold have forced me to focus on breathing low with the diaphragm (correctly) because I cough like crazy when I breathe high in my chest....and pausing to cough makes for some crazy phrasing! LOL
Hy Jason Howie here Paul Butterfield is great but you are the future of harmonica playing with unreal pedals my friend is trying to help me with my bad luck that happened there are some bad spirits that's why the truth will set us free and that is why my prayers are honest we are human and we do our best I only need you happy you have done well God bless bluemoon man
