Another Messmer foreshadowing: the butterflies. The 3 butterfly collectibles in the game have long been known to connect to demigods: Nascent butterfly is Miquella (said to spend very long in their cocoons), and the Aeonian butterfly (literally scarlet rot butterfly, very obviously Malenia). But the third butterfly was always not as solid, the Scorching butterfly. For a while one of the leading theories was that it represented Melina, as she is a kindling maiden and it's implied she's a daughter of Marika as well, but that was never too solid of a connection and we don't know too much about her to make it concrete. But now we have Messner, a demigod child of Marika, who is associated with flame that is red like the butterfly. That fact blew me away too
Amazing points!!!!! I forgot to mention this in the video, but you’re so right! For so long I thought the fire butterfly symbolised melina, but now? I’m 99% sure it’s Messmer and like you it just blew me away big time!!
So they added an extra butterfly in the dlc, the Black Pyrefly, which is probably Messmers but then this likely confirms the Smoldering one was always Melinas since there's lore that implies she's Messmers sister

Heartbraking is not how I'd describe Varre's story lol. Dude killed our maiden, tricked us into joining his cult of blood sacrifice, and injected us with burning blood that would eventually turn us into a pile of blisters. No, he deserves what he gets.
I 100% get why you’d think that, but I think it goes into something I briefly mentioned in the video, we make preconceptions based on the limit knowledge we have, whose to say he actually killed our maiden? Of course I could be completely wrong, but that’s what it seems like to me :)

One thing ive noticed is that in marika bedroom she has six baldichains (the veils the droop down) which correlates to the six divine towers that are the anchors of the veils that obscure the shadow lands which just so happen to match up spacially if you overlay baldichains with map points of the divine towers

I haven't seen anyone mention this, but the three Demihuman Queens are named Gilika (using part of Marika's name!), Maggie and Margot. Very similar to Godwyn (using part of Godfrey's name), Mohg and Morgott. The naming of these Queens is deliberate. I think these three are secret/hidden daughters of Godfrey and Marika. I think Boc is more significant than we think - he can 'feel' the Erdtree when he looks at it, no doubt as a result of his lineage. He tells us in the beginning "I was pushed out of the cave. Told not to come back, not ever. Then I ended up as a tree" I am certain that this is foreshadowing Marika's origin story, her first steps into the Land of Shadow and how/why she left. We already know her end, and how ultimately she ended up as a tree - the Erdtree, trapped inside of it until we came along, burned the tree and set her free in Death. Speaking of that, for funny insight into what was likely part of the inspiration of some bit of this story - look up Harold, Fallout, Numen.
I really did love the boc one, but I kinda felt I couldn’t put it too high because of how it sounds! I’d completely forgotten about the naming of the Demi human queens names! Also, to be honest I’m kind blown, I had no idea about that boc dialogue, I don’t know how I missed it, that’s absolutely bloody mental!?! I love the theory!!!! I’m gonna go check that out asap!
Holy sht, in the countless hours of ER lore I never heard anyone mention that the RT hold is actually a location in the capital and what it means since you're not in the actual location. I thought it was just a random location hub. But it replicating an actual location definitely has a meaning.
I remember seeing a comment that Fia is the human form of Fortissax. The connection being you can spell her name from Fortissax. Considering their friendship that is why she's all for reviving Godwyn.
I think im actually in love with this theory!? I hadn't considered Fia actually being fortisax due to her being grace given, but I really love the idea that Fia IS fortisax, super duper interesting!
Ranni’s order is one counseled of cold calculated logic compared to the Golden Orders tainted faith driven society and rule. The night of black knives was necessary and even Marika doesn’t wish to be part of the order, she wants to be killed and not be a pawn anymore.
I agree that it’s cold, but I think maybe she’s using “logic” as a front to cover her own selfish needs, there’s so many more reasonable ways she could have gone about stuffffff
I might be wrong cause I haven’t seen too many of the interviews but I believe he says the land of shadows is where Marika first steps foot in the lands between not that she or the newmans are from the land of shadows. In goldmasks ending, the mending rune of perfect order says "he current imperfection of the Golden Order, or instability of ideology, can be blamed upon the fickleness of the gods no better than men. That is the fly in the ointment." Thats referring to Marika. The list of sins commited by Marika is wild, the state of the lands between is her fault. As players i dont think anyone is 100 percent sure what was done by markia for her own desires vs when its the desire ofthe golden order, but regardless of that she has rivers of blood on her hands. In terms of scale and time Marika has been at it longer, her list of sins outweighs Rannis imo.. I see Rannis ending as a bloody coup against the greater will itself. I think she is freeing Marika as well. who is just as trapped and slave to it as anyone. left Broken, impaled, and crucified by the greater will. Everyone is a victim to the Greater will and she is putting an end to it. Bodily autonomy is a big theme with some of these gals. And Marika is stabbed through the womb. I do buy into the theories that Marikas usefulness to the greaterwill has something to do with her bearing children. Im like a dude and stuff but i see the imagery of birth and rebirth and fate and wombs and mothers and eggs all over this piece. And also you see her defending people like her mother. Her motivation doesnt seem to be about gaining power or maintaining it. we mostly only see her cast power and influence away. her most powerful assets were the people around her and they basically all die so. Is it possible the lands between is a simulation created by a silver tear. The part that gets me are the sacred tears and their descriptions of being like blessings, and the memories that get hewn into the tree. Also if a silver tear went around impersonating people, how can you tell who is who and who lied? A silver tear could cause so much chaos without giving away its own identity, if they even have one. The Nox attempt to create a lord may have been successful, I think the experiment can be seen at minor erdtree church mirrored by the three trees there, and perhaps even the demi-gods. A 3:1 ratio with only one being successful. It reminds me so much of my favorite video game character ever. Queen Myrrah, she had a different name until scientists experimented on her genes and basically unleash their own Prometheus like curse, their experiment that took 3 sacrifices had only one success, but they all went to war with their creators, with the one success leading them as their queen.
I just remembered too, under the preceptor's hat or astrologers hat, it looks like a tree on the masks forehead is bending spacetime around it, like its the center of everything.

I believe Miyazaki said that the Land of Shadow is where "Marika first arrived", not where she originates from. Also, Varre is just kind of an average scumbag. Tbh I think its easier to feel sympathy for a character like blackguard or Patches, but I don't hate Varre with the intensity many seem to. In the ethical spectrum of Elden Ring, Varre is probably somewhere in the middle. He's not exactly a great guy, but there are far, far worse characters than him like Seluvis or even Mohg himself.

I feel like ranni is more complicated than simply “good” or “evil”. I don’t think shes either. She has shown that she is willing to cause chaos and kill for her own gain, but she has also shown that she wants to free the lands between from the outergods, even going as far as banishing herself from the lands between all together as well. Whether that is a good thing for the people of the lands between is very very vague. Also I’m a gay man so don’t even try to accuse me of simping for her! Either way i don’t think shes a good person. At all. But shes cool as hell so im giving her a pass.

Not true, Miquella is definitely male. Melania even refers to him as her "brother" once you defeat her. Other voice lines in the game use masculine pronouns to describe him as well.

Is it possible the lands between is a simulation created by a silver tear. The part that gets me are the sacred tears and their descriptions of being like blessings, and the memories that get hewn into the tree. Also if a silver tear went around impersonating people, how can you tell who is who and who lied? A silver tear could cause so much chaos without giving away its own identity, if they even have one. The Nox attempt to create a lord may have been successful, I think the experiment can be seen at minor erdtree church mirrored by the three trees there, and perhaps even the demi-gods. A 3:1 ratio with only one being successful.
It reminds me so much of my favorite video game character ever. I believe Miyazaki said that the Land of Shadow is where "Marika first arrived", not where she originates from. Also, Varre is just kind of an average scumbag. Tbh I think its easier to feel sympathy for a character like blackguard or Patches, but I don't hate Varre with the intensity many seem to. In the ethical spectrum of Elden Ring, Varre is probably somewhere in the middle. He's not exactly a great guy, but there are far, far worse characters than him like Seluvis or even Mohg himself.

I feel like ranni is more complicated than simply “good” or “evil”. I don’t think shes either.
