Thanks for coming to the show but please do a little more checking into show promoters. This show has been going on for over 20 years. But Heroes runs Heroes Con. David Hinson and Rick Fortenberry run the Charlotte Comicon. Glad you had a good time
All day, would make that trade. Part of the motivation for collecting modern heat is being able to flip it for bigger books. Nice👍🏽 good strategy going back at the end of the day.
So I’m quickly becoming addicted to your channel. I really appreciate this video. I search con videos all the time to get a feel for what kind of comic presence is there and 80% it’s just anime and cosplay. Ty so much for this video it’s the info I was looking for
*Loved this video dude ! Watched it all . Love videos of buying and selling .. only thing wish you showed us the actual hustling when you make the deals . Would be fun too* 👍👀
One of my first conventions was a Heroes con all way back in 1989 yep I'm old but it was the one with Arthur Adams at the show that's why I went I'll never forget it was a great show got three sketches and bought some original artwork from art Adams personally well worth the trip
@Stickygoose last time I went was in 2006 I think, I wanted to meet Bud root Creator of cavewoman love that comic .its a great show if you want to meet the comic artists and writers also that year I met Dave Cockrum was lucky to get a sketch of storm from him he passed away shortly after like a few months
Those books are awesome! I want to see more convention videos like this and maybe a video on how to haggle with dealers. I would love to learn your ways 🙏 lol
I love these videos! I like how you call the vendors out who are charging crazy prices. Maybe they'll think twice about gouging people if they've been put on blast. Probably not, but still, it's great to see them get called out like this. Gotta say man, I'm coming around and becoming a fan of yours. These "strap on" vids are great
Claremont-Byrne was the high point in art and storytelling. An unbelievable run. 141 is my favorite.. have 22 copies of that book.. about half graded. Your trade was great.. Spider Gwen may not hold the hyped value.. but Giant 1 will always be valuable.
I love these wheel-and-deal videos. I see in your comments below that you misspoke on the price of the X-men 1 3.0. I was about to try to get you to give me the guys name so that I could snag it for $1100.🤣
Just started getting into the collecting world (funko pops) but I wanted to dig deeper into the other stuff that’s out there, even if I’m not interested in getting in the market. Looked up collecting and your channel came up and let me tell you, I love seeing the passion and energy you give in your videos and it’s so amazing to see just how much time and effort you put into your craft. Love the videos, especially when you go to conventions since more than likely I wouldn’t go to one myself but seeing it from your POV and hearing your reactions and thought process makes it exciting for me to watch 😁 Definitely earned a sub! 👍
You are 100% correct in all u said. I go every year. I have thought the exact same thing about the guy who puts it on, about his books. There is no way he sales anything!
Just FYI, this show is done by Dave and Rick, I think they do 3 or 4 of these per year. The Heroes shows are Heroes con (the really big summer show) and Heroes mini con. Cool video
I go to the Atlanta comic convention every 4 months or so and i always spend a good chunk of money with TNT comics, great prices and always a smile on their face.
Really fun video to watch but was going to make sure that credit went to the right couple of guys... Dave Hinson and Rick Fortenberry. They do these shows multiple times each year and work hard to keep them fresh and fun for dealers and buyers/traders. Dave is an old pro at wheeling and dealing and I've traded books with him for years (he knows his stuff and loves to make a deal)!
I would make that trade all day long. Nice Job. Some great pickups. It's a buyers market right now, dealers want cash because they have bills to pay and too much inventory.
@@Stickygoose TMNT #1 1st, 2nd, 3rd prints are all good investments in my opinion. Like X-Men, the Turtles are multi-generational. And, yes, the X-Men are the best team, and I’m a DC Dude!
Judging for your accent, I'd guess you're a Southern guy like myself. Rick Fortenberry (one of the guys who puts on the show) is a friend that I got my Batman 232 cbcs 8.5 from. You also had a brief glimpse of another great guy, Lyn Anderson who puts on a show in Raleigh 3 times a yr. Next show is early December and has some great vendors , Like Rick and Dave Hinson . You really should look into checking it out if you're in NC and looking for great 1 day show.
Dave Hinson and his business Partner run the show. I've known Dave for a long time. Yes, Heroes is pricey at cons. Lots of overhead on that shop but they negotiate way better in store. They have a nice store uptown Charlotte. Dave closed his Fort Mill, SC store years ago. You did the right thing. Stick to your guns and know when to walk away. The market still favors the collector at this time, not for long though. Folks are moving monies out of the Stock Market and into Art and collectables again. So, the monies are beginning to ramp up slowly for the books. I've been trading up to the -NM ~ 9.8's as fast as possible at the price I want to pay. Don't use 2021 as a benchmark. I still hunt the Garage Sales...
You managed to get some really big books. I think the Invincible #1 has potential to become hot again once season 2 comes out. I was thinking you should trade hot books for cool ones. Giant Sized is on a bit of dip but Edge of Spiderverse 2 is really hot so you might get more for your trade and the dealer might be more receptive to it. Personally I can only trade when I have dups of the books.
I have friends who live in the Charlotte area so I'm familiar with Heroes. Yeah the prices are nuts. Great trade . I actually have my green lantern 76 at my presser right now in prep to go to cgc. Great stuff. Subscribed.
@@Stickygoose oh ok…thought you were going to lean towards the mid grade tmnt 1 first print. I’ve asked others and everyone so far has said they slightly would lean towards the tmnt 1 mainly because of the low print run.
I believe it that the guy behind this con is doing well, people are always talking well about their store. However after actually dropping by their store, I am not really sure how. $15-20 on $3 books is crazy. What is weird is that they often have clearances at their warehouse.
GSX 1 doesn't get as much credit for also being the first appearance of Illyana Rasputin (Magik) and Krokoa. These both are pretty huge also, especially Krokoa since the modern story arcs revolve around it.
That 3500 XMen, looked so much better on camera than the 3100 one. No comparison in the color and to me that would be way more important. The 3k one looked pretty good, better than that 3100 5.5, that was so damn yellow.
Cool video and it looks like a lot of fun working the floor trying to do trades. Curious...how much of a % hit off of FMV do you take when trading to a dealer? I'd assume the trade has to be in their favor instead of just a sideways move.
It cost a lot of money to run a booth it wasn’t worth it anymore everyone is trying to lowball and make money the ppl who love comics are being replaced with ppl worried only about money
I actually used to own the very first TMNT - first printing. In 1984 Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird came to Archon, the sci-fi convention in St. Louis. They were there primarily to get some of the dealers to bite and agree to sell their title, but they also did have some copies that they sold at a dealer's table. I bought the first one without having any idea who they were, and I certainly never guessed it would become so iconic. If I remember right I ended up trading it and a few other comics for a Star Wars no. 1(with the rare 35 cent cover) - and sold that eventually to help buy a car. Every once in awhile I think what could have been if I held on to it - but you never know.
Invincible 1 is just an ugly cover. With slabs cover is king in moderns. Even in Bronze Age… the best artists had some of the best cover compositions… those are the ones that garner the most attention and value over the decades. John Byrne, Neal Adams, etc…

Kathryn Hahn = Agnes, love the Wandavision set that came out from Upper Deck too. Nice books!

😂😂 The Angry comics booth sold me a Raw copy of GSX1 for 600 two years ago. I sent to CGC and it came back a CGC 9.0

Your show is always fun to watch.
thank you for your positivity
Great books, you know there is a book where Spiderman turns into the Phoniex and it's a cheap book but would look good next to that X-Men book.
I had no idea I will look into it
Why was that TMNT 8.5? Spine tic? Looked good to me.
A lot of scuffing on black back cover

Yes exactly trade books while they are hot that’s what I’m about to do this weekend.
1st Moon Knight isn't worth keeping IMO. Even 1st app of Black Panther dropped a ton after the movie. GSX1 is a top 4 Bronze all- VERY smart trade.

I'm currently watching the video but you said the X-Men #1 3.0 was $1,100? Is that a slip up? Did you mean 11K?
Yea lol I definitely misspoke it was 11k
@@Stickygoose Oh….that makes mich more sense.
I would have hit the atm immediately for 1100. Its less than what i paid in 2014

I agree if I see books that are faded or sun soaked I could care less about the grade
I’ve got to know where I can order that shirt right now 😂

For $3,000 you can now get a CGC 7.5 copy of Giant-Size X-Men 1. Dang.
How much did you get for trade in? 50% 60% 70%
I estimated my stuff to be worth 3,600 I got more than that in trade.
Great deal! I am always afraid to bargain since I might get pawnstarred.
X men 1 3.0 1100?! 10k book no?

Did you say 1,100 for that xmen #1 3.0??? 1,100 would be the deal of the century.
I think he meant $11,000? There’s no way an xmen 1 cgc 3.0 goes for $1100. If it did go for that low it would’ve been sold in a minute.
1100 for xmen 1 3.0 awesome deal
I don't understand the mentality of paying a entry fee to buy someone's books, coins, cards or anything. It is totally ridiculous.
Heroes is awkwardly high on their wall and showcase books. Always.
$1,100 for a 3.0 X-men 1? Why didn’t you buy it?
That was a mistake I meant 11k
My number one regret in life was selling my turtles when I was a teenager.
You meant X-Men #1 at “eleven thousand dollars” not “eleven hundred...”. If it was the latter it would be the deal of a lifetime.
You got it….
lol, 1,100 for x men #1 i would've bought that. I know you meant 11K.
Yea I misspoke lol
